Video: Suzuki SX4 Pikes Peak Hill Climb run with Nobuhiro ‘Monster’ Tajima

By Brett Davis |

Fresh from the pages of YouTube is this raw, awe-inspiring, rally run up the famous Pikes Peak hill climb. If you’ve got a spare 11 minutes or so, sit back, relax and watch as Pikes Peak master, Nobuhiro ‘Monster’ Tajima, takes the 669kW, 3.1-litre, twin-turbo V6 Suzuki SX4 up for a record run.

Monster literally, or physically rather, shaves hay bales, kisses cliff-cut apexes and slots the front wheel inside every corner – he also comes ridiculously close to trusting spectators – as he wrestles the Suzuki up the 19.99km public track.

The car gathers huge momentum in such short bursts between corners too. And just check out those 3000-metre-plus views; the climb goes so high the weather changes.

You can really begin to appreciate just how dedicated those Pikes Peak drivers are through this excellent visual presentation. Just be patient for the really exciting bits.

It strikes me that he would be faster if there wasn’t so much wheel spin on the dirt sections – just bouncing off the rev limiter all the time. Too much power perhaps?
Great show still though – even with a cone and bale collected on the way!

Fantastic. The Nurburgring can’t compete with this for shear bravery and skill. This is where it is at.

Anyone who liked it should YouTube climb dance, old movie but for a car lover…brilliant.
