Vauxhall UK introduces industry-first lifetime warranty

Vauxhall has introduced an industry-first lifetime warranty on all its new vehicles in the UK, effective immediately.

The Vauxhall Lifetime Warranty applies to the first owner of any vehicle registered from August 1 2010 and continues throughout the life of the vehicle or until 100,000 miles (160,000km) is reached.

The comprehensive original equipment manufacturer warranty covers the powertrain, steering and brake systems and electrical equipment. Vauxhall is also preparing to announce a similar program to enable second owners to purchase the lifetime warranty.

Vauxhall is yet to announce whether the scheme will also apply to the Ampera (the rebadged Chevrolet Volt, due for release in the UK in 2012), but company spokesmen have admitted it is the intention for all new vehicles to be covered by the lifetime warranty, suggesting it is likely.

Vauxhall Motors managing director, Duncan Aldred, said the lifetime warranty was a fitting innovation from the UK’s oldest surviving car maker, which celebrates its 107th anniversary this year.

“With the Vauxhall Lifetime Warranty, we are making a strong statement of confidence in the quality of our products and a clear intent to provide the very best customer service in the UK,” Mr Aldred said.

Prior to the introduction of Vauxhall’s lifetime warranty, Kia offered the most extensive cover in the UK, with all new vehicles under warranty for seven years.
