Artega GT spotted in Czech Republic

We saw this car at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and were impressed with the way it was put together although, to date, we haven’t heard much about the car.

This example was spotted near the ‘Old Town Square’ in Prague recently, so it seems that the German company is on the move with what is a very decent mid-engine sports car to rival the Porsche Cayman.

Artgea is a German based car company, which was acquired by Mexican private investor, Tresalia Capital who are long-term investors in the car company. While you may not have heard of this group, they are an old school family company who also have a primary interest in the Modelo Brewery (Corona beer) and the Tory Burch fashion stores among other investments.

Designed by Henrik Fisker, who is credited with work on the BMW Z4 and Aston Martin Vantage (he has his own car company these days – Fisker) the Artega GT is powered by a 3.5-litre direct injection V6 from Volkswagen’s potent R36, producing 220kW (300 bhp) and good enough to go from 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 270km/h.

That said with an aluminium space frame construction and carbon fibre reinforced chassis, the Artega is reasonably lightweight at 1285 kilograms, which gives the car an excellent power to weight ratio and thus, quite eco friendly too with a combined fuel consumption figure of just 8.9-litres/100 kilometres.

The specifications state the use of a “state-of-the-art dual clutch transmission” so we suspect that this also comes from Volkswagen’s parts bin.

Braking is also said to be first class on board the Artega with the company siting a trade article entitled “The Best Braking Performers” where 250 cars were tested and only the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano had a shorter braking distance, while the Porsche GT3 came in third.
