I agree 100 percent.

Going to be getting an S3 when the R32 lease is up. (Few more years to go)

Reason I went for the R32 (besides the beaut sound out the back) was it at 5 doors.

Am waiting for the 5dr S3 to be released. Hopefully will be coming to Australia.

I live inner city Melb and 3Dr is just a pain in the a*se with parking. (ie. when getting out you need abit more room)

S3 competes with the R32, and is infact quicker!

Its unfair to compare GTi with S3, awd is the main advantage.

With all due respect, who cares which car is quicker in a straight line. Car also has to turn well.

Besides, S3 would be streets ahead before the VXR managed to get any traction. VXR would end up a few lanes over due to severe torque steer.

I drive an R32 and am well aware that the evo and sti are quicker in a straight line. Woopeedoo. How often do you really rape your car off the lights in your daily driving?

The trouble is when a manufacturer changes styling elements late in the development stage it CAN delay the launch considerably.
Design is usually frozen 12-15 months ahead of a vehicles official launch.

The S3 looks like a weapon but they are just so bloody expensive. Take a look at the HSV VXR. I’d love to drag race the two on a strip. You might get a surprise!
