2010 Mitsubishi ASX 2WD awarded 5-star ANCAP safety rating

Two-wheel drive variants of the 2010 Mitsubishi ASX compact SUV have been awarded a five-star safety rating by ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program).

Launched in Australia less than two weeks ago, the ASX 2WD is the entry-level model in the new range which also includes the mid-spec ASX 4WD and the top-of-the-range ASX Aspire.

Overall it scored 34.13 out of 37, achieving 14.13 out of 16 in the offset crash test, a perfect 16 in the side impact crash test and four bonus points for passing the pole test and for having seatbelt reminders fitted.

The official ANCAP crash test report said the passenger compartment held its shape well in both the 64km/h frontal offset crash test and the 50km/h side impact crash test, although it found “protection from serious leg injury was marginal for the driver” and awarded it 2.22 points out of four in the “lower legs” component of the frontal test.

The ASX 2WD comes standard with seven airbags (front, side, curtain, driver’s knee) as well as ABS, EBD and ESC and is priced from $25,990 for the five-speed manual model and $28,490 when equipped with the CVT transmission.
