Toyota Halts Sales of the V6 RAV4
October 30, 2007 by Alborz Fallah
Toyota Australia has stopped sales of its newly released V6 RAV4. The company stated the RAV4’s V6 engine, which has already seen controversy after Toyota stopped sales of the TRD Aurion, was not performing as smoothly as expected.
Toyota has been hard at work applying the 3.5-litre Toyota Aurion powerplant (2GR-FE) across its entire range. Starting life in the Aurion, then the Tarago, Kluger, and now a brief stint in the RAV4.
Toyota has not given any specific reasons for the sale freeze, noting that it is not a recall, but more of a precaution. The company says the RAV4’s driveability may be compromised.
Prior to the incident, Toyota executive vice-president Mitsuo Kinoshita, told The Age newspaper that Toyota was under pressure due to growing demand. He also noted the use of in-car electronics and integrated circuit boards have been a weak point for the Japanese manufacturer.
This is the third sales freeze for Toyota this year, following the Corolla’s steering rack issue and the TRD Aurion’s engine failure. As we mentioned earlier, Toyota is also having quality issues in the U.S.
Is the king of reliability slipping in standards?

toyota paul… im sure you timberlake on repeat. Im just sick of hearing you belt on with the same crap.
Now you have ad to resort to personal insult… nice work.
Tonyn…dont worry be happy!
We all ripped into the dill as the Timberlake comment was low as. Dare say he has the album otherwise how the hell would he know the name of the song; but more importantly he must know the words.
Dare say he is listening to Justin on ipod on way to Uni. Unless he has the day off he will be at hospital as suspect he is a nurse (from what ANDREW M said).
Hey Watto …I was playing with him!
Tonyn…you start work early ! Did you get your new toy????

Is Winterbottom out of the race before it even starts? Or has to miss practise/qualifying?
no winterbottoms car is repaired, as with skaife….
So all cars will be lining up but i know there a lot of unhappy campers, 4 cars damaged before the event begins!!!
This is a bit of a toucy subject… but should todd kelly be alout to race this weekend as he is driving a chevrolet lumina and not a holden commodore??? isnt that agains the rules…. id love to see someone bring that up there…. hehehehe…..

This will be the engine used in the new Bolwell Nagari…ouch
Will be released at the best motorshow in Australia:

You know M3 suspension is already stiff, with 20s on low profile tyres your fillings will fall out of your teeth!
i have never cared about stiffness!!

Tonyn ..You don’t?…..! I like to feel my age when I get out of a car after big ks in it! Not 20 years older….but I guess you have that advantage of being almost 20 years younger than me to start with ha!
$7000 sounds about right……..they are real nice wheels though!
I bet you won’t want to give it back on Monday!
A great sound that little 3.2 litre makes ,they love to be revved ! Is it manual??? I am not fond of sequential’s…
no its smg and i hate the box… its not nice at all…..
errrrrrrr, that will be your let down then!
yeah im not liking it, ill see how i go over the weekend!
Watto, That person by the name of “Driving-ford-is-like-xxx” I think used to be Harry. He sounds very imature, but that’s good because we can tell he’s a Ford fan and he chased that tosser, “Football, Hamburgers, Eagles and Holdenwoo cars” off last night by telling him his screen name “sucks”. Something that i’m too growin-up to say to him.
This is what frustrates me is Holdenwoo fans think their poo don’t smell, please read some of the comments this tosser has to say about the final race last year on youtube.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hew6czz5BLA
Hee hee, yeah, his name was “Driving-Ford-Is-Like-Sex” for one post then became “XXX”.
Thanks GFITGT for clearing that up. It was only a guess, I was off there ;-)
Toyota has also recalled nearly 3.2 million cars since June 2006 due to failures across the board on Yaris, Corolla, Lexus RX330,Camry and Aurion. This is not including the recalls on cars that we DONT sell in Australia. The 3.5 Million cars that Ford recalled are American and Asian SUV’s. Ford stopped bringing them to Australia for the reason that they were unreliable. I think it is about time that the “Old Reliable” Toyota was scrutinised under the same tests and inspections as other manufacturers. THIS WAS FOUND ON RESEARCH
That sounds interesting NM. Can you put up some links so I can have a look?
Hahhaah NM spinning his best. Please link first. Regardless, those figures man Toyota isnt reliable! NOT. Your manipulating stats, Toyota sells 10 million units per year, 3.5 million recalls is only 35… in line with those links Ive provided earlier. In addition to this, you mention ‘oh it doesnt include models not sold in Aus’, well at the same time NM many of the cars in that 3.5 million recall list dont effect Aystralia, for example the Camry/Aurion has huge transmission problems in U.S which would have contributed a reasonable amount to that figure given their international popularity. Now relating to Ford, they had more recalls (3.5 million) while selling LESS cars in the same period… and the fact that you say ‘American and Asian SUVs’ sounds like ALOT of spin, if thats 3.5mil for only SUVs whats the total amount then! Maybe you worded it wrong but it stinks of manipulation to me which when considering, still puts Ford worse in reliability.
And again I will say, why the hell are we still arguing this. I posted a link to a survey conducted over 10 years, Toyota was number one. Going to have to get over this tall poppy syndrome and realise Toyota is best in reliability.
Only 35%*
Also as I touched on, the Camry had issues overseas which contributed greatly to that figure when you consider that at the peak of sales, half of Toyota sales are the Camry… internationally.
Not completely writing it off yet but Ive done a search and I didnt find one site suggesting Toyota has made that many recalls over a one year period…
thats right paul its 35% that have been recalled.
your figures were on quality as a whole not just recalled models
so thats 35% recalled and how many that had to be fixed on an unrelated re call matter?
bugger all defects warrant a recall.
and its also been shown that toyota are pretty reluctant to call a problem a recall.
it suggest that the quality figure from the survey should be much greater than 35%
I knew you would say that… well as I said I couldnt find theses figures quoted online, Im still awaiting a credible source from NM… and as I said lets say these figures are right, 1 bad year (because those issues in the states, not Aus) doesnt condemn Toyota for the 20 years of reliability they have provided.
Ok Ive looked around abit more, still not 3.2mil figure but there are a number of large recalls…. so far I think Ive counted 1.5million….NONE SOLD IN AUSTRALIA AND OVER LONGER PERIOD THEN SINCE 2006
ha ha ha ha “you knew i would say that” ha ha ha yeah ill keep you honest in the same way that you would keep me honest ha ha ha ha
ok another one…….
how come you apply the 20yr good reliability image from the states to OZ but not the new founded poor reliability in the states to OZ?
anyway
can i just ask why would anyone care what the official recall figures are?
sorry i buy cars on face value not surveys, not reports, not a third party set of figures but from MY own experiences/dealings.
I dont, Aus toyota has had 20 years of reliability… look at the Camrys and Corollas for example, since the 80s they have been showing their reliability. As for official recall figures, well when your claiming 3.5 million have been recalled I kinda wanna know its that fact or fiction! I think its not 3.5million since 2006… more like since 2000 or around then. Still waiting for NM to prove me wrong though.
