Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG local pricing announced

Mercedes-Benz Australia has announced the official pricing of the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG – the modern interpretation of the classic Gullwing.

The manufacturer’s list price for the all-new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG stands at $464,000 for Australian customers, excluding dealer delivery and all on road costs.

Unfortunately, paying for the privilege of parking an SLS AMG in your own personal garage is likely to cost closer to $550,000 once charges such as GST, the Luxury Car Tax, registration fees, stamp duty, CTP and the like are factored into the equation.

It would well be worth it however as this is the first and only super sports car independently developed in-house by AMG, the performance brand within Mercedes-Benz, and pays homage to the iconic and highly collectible Mercedes-Benz 300 SL.

To put the final drive-away pricing into perspective, the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG carries a MLP of $129,400 (inc GST) but must also add $3,269.23 for dealer delivery (inc GST), a further $22,560.97 for the LCT, $974.96 for rego and CTP along with $6,865.00 for stamp duty, giving you a drive-away price of $163,070.16 – and that’s before you have even looked at the options list.

Thankfully buyers may find comfort in the fact that the SLS AMG is powered by a highly-tuned version of the AMG 6208cc V8 engine developing 420kW at 6800rpm and 650Nm at 4750rpm – boasting a power-to-weight ratio of 3.86 kg/kW thanks also in part to the low vehicle weight.

Power is channelled to the rear wheels via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission boasting rapid fast gear changes with virtually no loss of tractive force – in as little as 100 milliseconds.

With figures like that, it is not hard to believe the SLS AMG’s quoted performance figures of zero to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, and an electronically limited top speed of 317 km/h.

Dude, $22, 560.97 just in Luxury Car Tax for a C63 AMG? That’s absolutely disgraceful! That works out to be roughly 17.43% on top of the MLP, PLUS all of the other charges and on road costs… What has this country come to? I think it’s about time Australians had a fair go when it comes to cars in this country because the LCT is just a money grabbing scheme that makes us all pay more money to “tha gumamint” just because we desire a great car from overseas. Time for change!

You still have to pay LCT on Australian built cars.

Now you see why Gillard wants to introduce a scheme to get people to buy new cars.

Give us $2,000 to but a new car but we will actually end up paying a lot more tax back on it than the $2,000 we are given.

        Nice trick Labour!

So mate if you could stretch your budget to $140k that puts the C63 AMG $10k beyond reach just because of the LCT, let alone Merc options, rego and stamp duty etc.

No one’s going to borrow an extra $20k just for the sake of a car – something that will be worth $40k in a few years.

Andy, do you have any facts to back up that statement? Based on my personal experience with my own Mercedes-Benz you are incorrect.

One of the better reinterpretations of the retro equivalents out there.

The price isn’t bad considering the other offerings of Mercedes in the price bracket. Definitely a classic.

Tax can go to hell it friggin made it go up by nearly 20%, why does this country have to be a rort other well developed countries don’t even have tax like Dubai

      says:

Yeah, why can’t we be like Dubai, which can do without serious taxes because it has all that oil and hardly any people and hardly any space, and has a supply of people in more or less slave conditions to do the dirty work and the the servant work.

Oh, and which needed to be bailed out by Abu Dhabi when the GFC hit.

Real countries have to have an economy other than “sell oil”, need things like health and education systems for millions of people, can’t treat workers like slaves, etc, and to pay for that you need tax. End of story.

“bailed out by Abu Dhabi when the GFC hit” !!! get your self educated it is one country.
“to do the dirty work and the servant work” believe me they earn far better than you , those people earn nothing and sleep on the street on their back home such India, pak and Bangladesh.
if you feel galas get lost, wondering why every time west face crisis they curse Dubai,

“let’s dogs bark and earth spin and people like you will take care off a day”

That is 458 Italia Money. I’d be hard pressed looking past the Ferrari for this even though it is quite special.

I heard the sound of the glorious SLS AMG V8 last Saturday. It is worth the price of admission alone. I’m not denying a Ferrari sounds great but there is something very special about the sound of the SLS. The crackles and pops in the exhaust note as your foot is lifted from the accelerator are delicious.

At Mercedes-Benz Sydney dealership last Saturday I spent some time admiring the SLS AMG on display there. The drive away pricing is advertised next to it as $496,000.

P l e a s e Santa I promise I’ve been good. Oh, and while you’re at it, I’ll need a new home because the doors won’t open in my small 2 car garage. Last month was going to sell the home and live in the baby Roller, now I’m not so sure.
Bride doesn’t like either idea but I can always get another one of those.
