Nissan GT-R around the ‘ring
October 26, 2007 by Alborz Fallah
It seems the benchmark for new performance cars is the Nurburgring, and Nissan have put the new GT-R for an official lap. The time? 7:38.
There are some rumours this lap is not legitimate as it does not go around the entire circuit, however apparently this is a common practice when recording a Nordschleife lap.
Eitherway, according to those times, the Nissan GT-R sits below the Pagani Zonda, Porsche Carrera GT and Koenigsegg CCR:
- 7:27.82 167.201 km/h — Pagani Zonda F Clubsport
- 7:28* — 166.652 km/h — Porsche Carrera GT,
- 7:31 — 164,375 km/h — Porsche 997 GT2,
- 7:32* — 164.071 km/h — Pagani Zonda F,
- 7:32* — 164.071 km/h — Porsche 997 GT2,
- 7:32.18 – 164.071 km/h — Porsche 997 GT2,
- 7:32.44 163.911 km/h — Porsche Carrera GT,
- 7:33 — 163.708 km/h — Pagani Zonda F,
- 7:33 — 163.708 km/h — Porsche 997 GT2,
- 7:34 — 163.586 km/h — Koenigsegg CCR
- 7:35* — 159.864 km/h — Nissan GT-R (tested by MotorTrend magazine),
- 7:36 — 162.631 km/h — Porsche Carrera GT,
- 7:36 — 162.631 km/h — Mercedes SL 63 AMG Black Series
- 7.38* — 161.628 km/h — Mercedes SLR 722 GT,
- 7.38* — 161.628 km/h — Nissan GT-R (official),

***PRIMO!***
I thought this was going to smoke Porsches….LOL NOT!
Anyway, i want the Ultima GTR, i would say that would do it in low 20’s, as in 7.20
Cheers

Well, I don’t see any 911s above the GTR, which is what it is suppose to compete against. Anyway, even if it didn’t beat the 911, its a fantastic time for a car which is half the price (and wank factor)!
Bob the 997, is a 997 911 :)
I haven’t been able to confirm if the times are for the production version 911s or if they are race-bred, either way the GT-Rs time is promising to say the least.
I have NEVER liked skyrines in the past, infact i really did think they where wankey jap fanboy cars
BUT
I really really like the new GTR, its awesome
I’d like to see that top lap times list plotted against Retail price!
Wanky fanboy cars? You can’t blame the car for the drivers behaviours! The GTR’s have always been something special.
As the owner of an R33 GT-R in near-stock tune can I just throw in my 0.02? I believe it is such a shame that there is such a large number of poor examples of Skylines, whether they be normal cooking versions, GTs, GTSs, GTS-t’s or even GTRs which tend to lower the general standard of what is essentially a car which should be judged in the same way that other cars are which landed in Australia officially. Having had BMWs (ageing from ‘88 to ‘99) as well as Holdens (including a HDT, and a HSV) and the odd Alfa Romeo in our family, I believe it takes a true car enthusiast to appreciate a truly good car, *no matter what make it is*. If you drive an unmodified GT-R in near-standard tune (hasn’t been backyard-modified by some dimwit) *without a closed mind* I’m sure you would be able to appreciate. You may prefer other cars, but don’t dismiss a car which has such strength of engineering behind it just because of who drives them. Some of them may be driven by wankers but aren’t cars from ALL manufacturers driven by a proportion of the wanker population?
yea i dont see any normal porsches (911 turbo) or ferrari’s there. GT2 is an exception coz its max power and lightened.
i honestly thought GTR performance would sit under the 911 turbo.
I have just finished watching a E46 CSL M3 go around it at 7.53 ,his wipers were on so it must of been raining..hahahaha

You may say this but I can see it now, riceboys are going to be turning this car into a 1500hp monster. It would be an absolutly car, just for the sake of getting 8secs down the quater mile!
Tunning destroys cars in my opinion. And its what kills the image of the vehicle to me. Apart from that the new GTR is quite the stormer.
^
Oh I meant to say absolutly rubbish car.
SRTargets – you make some good points. It is more or less why (money aside) I have left my GT-R near-stock (except for aftermarket, Japanese, suspension; and a less restrictive exhaust, again Japanese). It’s arguable as to where you could exploit 500-plus horsepower on a public road anyway.
I haven’t driven many tuned cars (regardless of make) but I’d tend to agree that tuning a car does not necessarily make it better. After literally thousands of km spent circulating the Nürburgring, it takes a very big outfit indeed and a shedload of expertise to justify thinking you can do it better than Nissan (same goes for a BMW, AMG, Porsche, Lotus et al)
Hmm this or the evo!
