don't forget paul biodiesel, a biodiesel hybrid is a much more achievable solution using current technology and infrastructure. Hydrogen will eventually be the solution, but at least in australia i think our infrastructure is a long way off.

Certainly demand for Diesel currently but I think its irreponsbile for companies to be pushing for them, the time for Diesel was 10 years back... we have passed peak oil, we need better solutions. Honda are right on track for a 'budget' car producer, hydrogen cell and sporty hybrids.

Hmm yes, 11 years in the arena and the Prius is much the same as it was when it debuted. They need to bring out something a bit more toothsome, something that will attract more buyers to this platform - which eventually, will probably be neccessary

As for no diesel? Toyota isn't paying attention to the JDM landscape. Honda, Nissan, Subaru (with their new TDi Boxer) and Mitsubishi are all making forays into the Diesel market within Japan because there IS demand. Even Mitsu's latest Galant, the ZT concept, is supposed to harbour a 2.2L diesel.

Toyota's setting itself up to be overtaken by the other makers in diesel cars.

They are correct - Japan is a tiny, crowded landscape, and is probably better off with hybrids than with diesels.

Re-style the Prius so it's not so butt-ugly, and price it at $20-25,000 and they would sell in volume here.
