You know what? I don’t think the look is “utter class” at all. From a design point of view, the CL is a very confused car. There’s a mish mash of untidy angles and conflicting shapes. I think Mercedes has really lost it’s way of late design wise and this is no more evident than with the CL’s muddled personality. It looks more like a HSV than a $500,000 German GT Coupe.

This car will eat up miles like a Ferrari could only dream of. Not to mention this will kick the Rapide to the kerb with it’s performance figures. This is teutonic exuberance that is difficult to understand unless you can afford it. Just like every Aston Martin is inferior to its’ competition in nearly every way (weight, speed, specific output, lap times, 0-100 etc, reliability, price), it is something different and its still admired and well regarded. The look is utter class, with enormous power to boot and an interior to make people gawk. You are right on with the depreciation, but hey, if you can afford it, you probably don’t mind.

Does anyone else think that the Merc AMG naming convention is a little confusing now that they have smaller capacity engines? I mean, a CL63 used to mean the 6.2L V8 (They believed anything above exactly 6200CC was considered a 6.3), but now the 5.5L Twin Turbo is in the CL63 and the 6.0L V12 is in the CL65… I liked it when the name matched the capacity

One of the worst financial depreciating decisions one could make for $500K. TO choose this over a Ferrari California, Aston Martin Rapide, or even a much cheaper Maserati Gran Turismo is just crazy. The maximum price point of Mercedes is around $300K. Spend more than that and there are much better cars out there.
