Citroen releases big air rally jumps gallery

In the lead-up to next weekend’s Rally Finland – the spiritual home of big air on the World Rally Championship circuit – Citroen has released a gallery of 10 of its favourite gravity-defying jumps.

Unsurprisingly, six-time world drivers’ champion and current 2010 drivers’ championship leader, Sebastian Loeb, owns six of the top 10.

Incredibly, however, arguably the best of the lot – an 85m take-off during the Rally of Turkey in April this year – didn’t make the list.

The Citroen Total C4 WRC launched Loeb and co-driver Daniel Elena a distance that surprised even the Frenchman during the fast Ballica stage.

“It was an incredible sensation as we were up in the air for several seconds. Not for a moment did we imagine that we would jump so far,” Loeb said.

Other drivers featured in Citroen’s top 10 include Loeb’s Citroen teammate and compatriot Sebastian Ogier, as well as Dani Sordo, Carlos Sainz and Colin McRae from earlier seasons.

After seven rounds of the 2010 WRC season, Loeb sits at the top of the leader board 51 points clear of Ogier, who is a further 14 points ahead of Ford’s Mikko Hirvonen.

Loeb has won four rallies in 2010 and his worst finish came in New Zealand where he finished in third position.

Rally Finland kicks off on July 29 and is one of six remaining rallies for the 2010 season.
