2010 Toyota LandCruiser Prado sales going strong

By Brett Davis |

The Toyota LandCruiser Prado is proving to be one of Australia’s best-selling four-wheel drives. A total of 9132 units have been sold during the first half of 2010, an increase of 2796 compared to last year.

Toyota’s total four-wheel drive sales this year has reached 26,980 units, comprising of the RAV4, Kluger and LandCruiser series. The figures are said to be double that of the closest rival’s figures.

To help sales along, Toyota is also now offering satellite navigation on its VX models for $2500. The package includes an LCD screen that doubles as a monitor for the reversing camera. Also included in the deal is five more speakers to the in-car entertainment system, totaling 14 speakers.

David Buttner, senior executive director for sales and marketing Australia, said in a recent release,

“Prado is a great package that has strong market acceptance and extremely high customer loyalty. It is luxuriously comfortable and capable around town and, above all, it lives up to the LandCruiser heritage by delivering supreme off-road performance.”

David Buttner also said there has been an increasing demand for turbo-diesel versions, too, which has helped sales.

14-speakers, wow, I’m sure that will help when the diesel auto stalls on a steep hill and rolls backwards and dangerously out of control. Google it if you don’t beleive me.

    • Micky

You need 14 speakers to drown out the clatter of the diesel engine.

      • Tomas79

Obviously you never driven one have you??
I’d love to hear the diesel in my Prado, but with my windows up, i can’t!!

        • Micky

No I’ve never driven one, but I’ve crossed the road in front of one and was nearly deafened.

          • Tomas79

Well considering most of the other diesels onroad are much more louder, you must be really deaf!!

          • gazza

            You must be deaf already!!!!!!!!!!

          • Dave

I driven a 150series diesel kakadu but don’t own one. Let me just say that at idle or when cold it can be a little noisy but once up to speed you can barely hear it. Its not as quiet as the 200series but thats why you pay more for it.
Pajero’s current diesel can wake up a neighborhood in comparison. ’4-speakers, wow, I’m sure that will help when the diesel auto stalls on a steep hill and rolls backwards and dangerously out of control. Google it if you don’t beleive me’. Most of you people who find faults in the Prado are just envious of the cars quality and in most cases simply can’t afford one.

I googled and found zip. Have a link or perhaps the key words used ?

    • Adlove

But your ix35 stuck in mad way before that hill.
So you didn’t see anything Alex?
Where did you get that story?

    • gazza

There is a video on youtube made just for guys like you go to “2010 prius brake problems” this video was made just for you! It must be terrible not to able to drive properly ALEX?

  • Simon

Wow sat nav, reverse camera and 5 more speakers for $2500. Big deal? I don’t think so.
    How about a 3rd, 3rd-row seat Toyota?

    • Tomas79

They do come with a 3rd row of seats.. But if you really need them, you’re proably just a soccer mum, and won’t be using it for what it was intended for!!

      • Sam

i think he ment a third seat in the third row because they already have a third row equalling to 7 seats i think hes talking about 8 seats

        • Simon

Exactly – 8 instead of the 7 they now offer – idiots.

  • NotTheStig

So, this is NEWS ? – Just an advert/PR IMHO…

Just because heaps of people drive these damn ugly trucks around town doesn’t mean they are any good. Waste of resources.

Let the people who use them off road have them but to drive around town in one of these barges, you need your head read.

Can someone explain why you want to drive something that is:

    Slower
Uncomfortable (pitching which makes me seasick !)
    Heavier
    More expensive to run
    Worse handling
    Poorer at braking
Potentially unsafe (high centre of gravity)

    Than a proper car ?

Then what about the cheap interior and the mismatched fonts and displays all over the cabin ?

    Makes me laugh…

    • Nat Redgrave

agreed the new prado is disgusting i could not think of a worse car to own the interior is just awful looks rank, the exterior looks like its almost diseased and the engine for god sakes the europeans are getting nearly double the power and torque out of the same size engine with a much nicer sound and most of them now have six speed autos, and a back door that opens sideways that is about the most useless idea i could think of why not split fold?? or is that too smart, for the price of a kakadu prado i could buy a brand new range rover sport tdv6 and i think i know what i would prefer more capable on road more capable off road more comfortable more technology bigger brakes awesome engine and a much better car all round!!

    • gazza

SO YOU CANT AFFORD ONE RIGHT?

      • NotTheStig

Yeah, of course you are right. And with a name like “gazza”, I am sure you are a lot richer than me. LOL.

I am sure you are pleased that at least I do have enough for a functioning keyboard as yours doesn’t seem to have a Shift, Apostrophe or Full Stop key or even a Space Bar.

      • Nat Redgrave

yeah apart from the fact i just bought a brand new range rover sport, you just worry about your falcon or commodore, i wouldnt be seen dead in a untechnological piece of rubbish like a prado nothing good about them

        • Michael

You just keep telling yourself that… you head must get cold up there on your perch…

  • Hung Low

Why would anyone buy this eyesore over the new Land Rover Discovery?

    • Tomas79

      Well it has better bushability!!
EG double the range, better internal carrying capacity, larger range of accoseries to chose from!!

    • gazza

Well at least you dont lose 3/4 of you money after 12 months! land rover = no resale value!

  • ADLove

Because Disco4 is over 100K car now.
19inch wheels are not suit for off road anyway.
And if something happened in outback, you would very hard to get spare parts or maybe not?.
Also, Patrol and Pajero are old and new model is coming soon.
What else…Hyundai/Kia stop sale serious 4WD in AUS.
I guess there isn’t many option in this price range.

    • Nat Redgrave

did you just read the new overlander 4wd magazine coopers have just bought im some special low profile offroad tyres and both the people from landrover and coopers and overlander were just amazed at how awesome they could be on 20″ wheels not damage to the tyres at all on the worst tracks they could throw at them.

      • Adlove

If that is question, I didn’t.
I checked Overlander’s web site, and nothing I could find.
So I checked Coopers Tyre…Then, they have 275/45R20 tyres !!!
        Oh my goodness.
But what kind people buy them, wear them and go to next North WA road trip?
        Drag dealer? Maybe…

        • Nat Redgrave

yeah i saw a review of them and when my range rover sport needs new tyres i will be putting them on there just for the added off road grip dont need it but why not coopers do get awesome mileage a mate of mine got 100000kms out of a set of coopers but that review in july overlander says there just awesome blew them away they couldnt believe for low profile tyres how well they performed and handled it with no marks

  • Vibe

But no one ever takes it off road!

    • Tomas79

YEah people do take them offroad all the time!!
Even mining companies and many other organisations working in the bush have them!! I’m yet to see Working disco in the bush!

      • Nat Redgrave

i work in mines mate and i know for 100% fact the only reason they use toyota is for that toyota does fleet pricing at unbelievable prices because a mate of mine does all they ordering of vehicles for the second biggest bhp billiton mine in queensland so they use toyota for the super cheap price they get and also because if there easy to make roll bars for and retro fit they same mine spec rops and bullbars should one get hit or damaged as they do regularly on mine sites and why would they want a prestige car anyway when they get trashed
