No Manual for Pontiac G8

October 19, 2007 by George Skentzos

US customers buying the Australian Holden Commodore-based Pontiac G8 will have to wait until 2009 for a manual transmission – if at all.

 9-2008-pontiac-g8.jpg

As with its Australian counterpart, the Pontiac G8 will be available with either the 3.6-litre V6 or 6.0-litre LS2 V8 engine.

At launch, the only transmission available to the US market will be the six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift functionality unique to the US.

“It is believed that there will be a manual option for 2009, although GM has yet to confirm if and when a manual will be available.”

US pricing for the G8 will begin at AU$30,962 for the entry level V6 model, and AU$33,655 for the V8 – a virtual slap in the face for Australian buyers.

The Pontiac G8, which relieves the aging Grand Prix, will begin deliveries in the US by 2008.

no i work for a european brand…. id go on the dole before i worked for the dark side!!!

it was 1996 and they were abou the 80 to 90,000 mark!

  2. Bavarian Missile says:

Gee that was a good little return for a limiter run Commodore ha.!

The dole hey…at lest the Commy driver saw the light and got out of it!

The V8s are about to start here I think!

Cant believe Winterbottoms penalty for his timing issue yesterday….it went out of the 6 degrees allowed, for around 1.6 sec and they put him to the back row!!!!!!!!

    Go the Fords!!!!!!!

  3. Tonyn says:

im hearing you, im at work at the dealership…. i cant exactly yell and scream at the television here…. but i will be glued to it wishing the fords along!!!!

Yeah the resale sucks on it hey!! im sure he will be happy with his new v8 purchase…..

  4. Bavarian Missile says:

Nope not on… just trying to get me to stay watching……..Indys ok but I prefer the pinnacle of motor racing …F1 ! Maybe its the voices that go along with Indy that drives me!!!!!!

Dont you guys close at 12.00 like they do here? Sucks to be you ha!

  5. golfschwein says:

Yeah, 20% retained value after 11 years, BM. Ah well, it’s only a car. That’s depreciation for you.

Don’t expect anything grander out of the current batch of HSVs and FPVs 11 years down the track. They’ll just be used cars.

  6. Bavarian Missile says:

Not all of the FPV range though, not sure how the other half will go trying to claim the Cobra against his tax ? I guess just the repayments will count no depreciation .That will have the accountant puzzled.for once!

I guess when he sells it he will have to pay capital gains on it!

Hey golfschwein ,I think the FPV badge holds its value better ! Yep they seem to devalue in the first 5 years but some like the TS50s and TE50s and more resent the 40th anniversary and Cobras for ford have done real well.

Even some of the early Tickford GTs went down and are now going up! Thats Ford ,I guess there still the Epitome of Australian muscle and Collectors cars in Australia and in the World if you look per capita!

Even most of the yank stuff cant hold a candle to our GTs in return for your money!

  7. Chris says:

    To Football Meat Pies Kangeroos and Holden cars;

For all the intelligence and perception in investments you appear to have, you’re still a product of Holden Marketing wizardry.
If the best you can pull out of your hat is the Fiesta being built in Thailand…that says everything I need to know.
Mazda and Ford a pumping half a billion dollars just to bring the Manufacturing plant up to world standard. Oh and I forgot to mention that Honda make the V6 Accord in Thailand.
Holden are now in the business of manufacturing half-arsed products iced with some well thought up marketing (the only quality component of the product they are selling I might add) and because of this, Joe average IQ succumbs to the great lie that Holden have worked so hard to maintain; that they are indeed Australian where in reality the Lion and steering wheel are the only thing that remain of the once Australian Company that was bought up before they could even manufacture the FJ.
Compare a Daewoo built sub-standard gutless wonder known as the Epica (a half arsed name) to the European Car of the Year; a la’ Mondeo- oh wait, there is NO comparison.
The Falcon which will be based on a COTY platform that will be even more improved with Territory components(oh wait…another COTY) as well as heavily revised drivelines, all new body/sheet metal as well as the Ideals that Ford uphold of not skimping on quality for the sake of making more dollars unlike your beloved Holden which are now in reality “The commodore company” and everything else comes out second rate.
Perhaps if you did as much research in your shares and investments as you did your can-do-no-wrong-GMH, you would actually have made some sort of a valid argument.

  8. Tonyn says:

no im here till 6!!! i wish i left at 12, but its all good

Taking an RS4 for the night i think…. that will be a good saturday night cruiser…. and will look good next to the XA in the shed!

  9. Watto_Cobra says:

    Very nicely said Chris.

  10. golfschwein says:

Hey Chris, I checked out the Mondeo TDci hatch this morning. Very impressed, even if the rear passenger door handle garnish came off in my hand.

Check the stats. This thing is 86mm shorter than a Falcon, but is wider, higher, wider-tracked and lighter than a Falcon by the weight of, just guessing, the tail shaft. Oh, it’s easier to get in and out of, too. The 9 year old AU-BF architecture’s hooped roof and door apertures were always too much for my 184cm frame, so that’ll hopefully be one great improvement with Orion.

    Mondeo will slaughter Crapica.

  11. Bavarian Missile says:

    So you work for Audi?????????

Make sure they don’t fight in the garage, cant trust those XAs with Euro stuff ! hehehehe .M3 is keeping the XA company tonight cause Henry’s a little lonely since the BA left!

Gee I hope they don’t start that I can rev harder than you game they like to play!!!!!!hahahaha The neighbors won’t be happy! XA will win ,depending on what MSD rev limiter chip hubby has installed . We have choices!!!

  12. Andrew M says:

if you want to compare depreciation against each other have a look at the EL GT which is pretty much the same age as the GTS-R
last i knew the EL GT was going for around $90K and that was a while a go i last heard of prices on them.

Missile have you heard the recent value of them?

special models from ford seem to be much more appreciated than those from holden

  13. golfschwein says:

How does the Brock EA fare? I can’t be ratted looking it up, but suspect it’s no different to any other $1500 EA.

  14. Going Ford, Is The Going Thing says:

How much would a EB GT? I guss a bit pricey now, only 265 cars were made(15 were sent to New Zealand).

  15. Bavarian Missile says:

That was the model I was trying to think of Andrew ,thanks! A great comparo to the GTS-R ! OOPPPSS its back on, so will I next add!

  16. Bavarian Missile says:

Forget it,just some chick who cant sing the national anthem !

    Brock……EA thats a oxymoron isn’t it … I don’t think I have ever seen one!

Andrew you don’t see them come up for sale ……

Seen a few EBs but I love the look of the EL GTs nice looking car!

EB GTS are up to $50,000 I think ,another Andrew in our club also a mate!! bought a doggy one for about $25,000.

    Got to go now!!!!!!!Back soon!

  17. Watto_Cobra says:

As long as it doesn’t have a “polariser” on it :-)

  18. wheelnut says:

In relation to the GTS-R they made 75 of them which sold for $75000 – 10 of which had an HRT Option Pack

However; the value of a car can vary depending upon:
    the number of cars made of that particular model;
    the condition the car is in;
    activity and trends in the market;
whether you sell it at auction trade in or private sale; what the car means to the buyer and how much they want it

I say this because Tonyn traded his GTS-R in and only got $18,000. However; at Auction a couple of years ago #05 [which was one of 10 with the GRT Option Pack] sold for $120;000 – it was in mint condition with low Kms and had a full history.

Andrew M says EL GTs are worth $90,000 whereas a couple of years ago my mate traded his in and only got $30,000

  19. Going Ford, Is The Going Thing says:

there is a website, whats it called? It’s… http://www.australianmusclecar.....scle/85003
There is a Brock EA Falcon, didn’t want much for it.

  20. Bavarian Missile says:

Yep there is a Walking Stick Commodore in the latest Unique cars for $130,000 with almost no ks on it ,if that was a EL GT it would go for $150+k

It seems only the real low ks Commys go for big prices!

  21. Bavarian Missile says:

Thats number 1 car ME …..done a lot of ks!!!!!!!!Still think thats a good price for it!

  22. Going Ford, Is The Going Thing says:

I thought I would be alot more than what they asking for, even it’s done more than 200,000kms. Should of been sold allready by now.

Looks like Ford’s 70s slogan has won against Holdenwoo’s one! If the false slogan comes back, it’ll have not much to say other than saying “jealous” and acrostics of the Ford name.

GOING FORD, IS THE GOING THING!

  23. Tonyn says:

yeah bavarian i work for Audi… or a dealership at least!!

Yeah you cant trust those XA’s!!! my TS50 is feeling a bit lonely but i have had to store it somewhere else!!!

Its all good the RS4 and the XA got on… hehehe… i think it was a motoring enthuiasts delight in my shed last night…. sounds like a pretty potent XA you have! mine is very mild, 450hp flywheel but i never built it to race, i just wanted it to sound cranky at traffic lights!

El GT’s are slowly creeping up in value…. i have been hunting for a good one and they are getting back to the $50k mark… the GTSR i traded was reasonable, needed 4 tyres and maybe the front bumperbar painted… it had done 105000 klms and did have the HRT enhances decal on the guards…. sounds like it was a good buy, i should of kept it… i dont think i could handle having a dark side product in my garage… actually i couldnt…

  24. Bavarian Missile says:

I forgot you had the TS50 ,we almost bought one but decided to wait for the BA. Funny thing is the TE and TS are bringing more money????? They were last of the old winsor and went pretty good, the other half loved the paddle shift, thought it great. I like a good old manual though!

    What colour is it?

Only 450 hp in the XA thats 150 more than they came with! You want it to sound cranky at the lights..hahaha ,pull out the manual choke!

Mr Bavarian is a mechanic by trade and built all of the cars he or I have owned ! As much as I understand people having cheque book cars its nice if you can do it yourself.

Apart from painting it and manufacturing exhaust he assembled everything, looking back I guess we now wish we hadn’t modified it so much with the price being where they are,but he has started buying original bits for it again with the though of restoring it to original one day! If you threw some globes on it and didn’t look under the car,in the boot or under the bonnet you would think stock! Interior is untouched !

We started rebuilding it in 1993 ,to its now modified state, previous to that it was just a tidy XA Coupe with big wheels on it!

I like the EL GTs you would be amazed at what some of these cars are changing hands for in the clubs! Most GTs these days are sold through a friend of a friend !

Would love to see your XA , my old one and yours could have been twins! Mine had a factory sun roof!

  25. Tonyn says:

if you give me an email i can send some pics!

My Xa was repainted in 1973 and still has that paint on it, trim is untouched even the 8 track player still works! I have not modified it structually but my car has an interesting history, has been in the family since new… I will send you a email if you would like!

The TS50 is blueprint, i didnt want that colour but ended up with it, i have modified it a bit but not too far, has 20″ front wheels and 22″ rear wheels and lowered. Its a great car… i was going to buy a BA until i drove the TS and ended up with that! I am just about to put it on the market though… i am not usuing it and i need shed space for another project! and i usually have to leave one car outside!

EL Gt’s are hard to find if you want a good one, i have given up on that thought, i am chasing a DJR 320 i think i would like one of those….

  26. Bavarian Missile says:

I am going to ask David to allow you to email him so he can give you my email address,I don’t want to give it out on the site as its a business email and as Alborz seems to be too busy in Melbourne this weekend Ill try this method first!

So how good is the paint ? Mine had been on blocks for 10 years before I bought it in 1989 ,paid $13,000 ,that was a lot of money for a XA 4 door then ! Steve Choppings Dad use to own it ,I am from Tassie originaly so it was a one owner car when I bought it! Mine had had a hit on the back left hand door and didn’t line up properly and some one had polished the black out on the bonnet,a few little dents but nothing major but I got it repainted and had the engine re built cause it was blowing smoke from sitting around so long the bores had glazed up! Interior was imaco .
Steve Chopping I think is the Chief Steward of V8 Supercars now!

Blue Print……nice colour ! You have pimped it? Did you keep the original wheels?

Had a DJR over here for sale a while ago….how many did they make of them?

  27. Tonyn says:

paint is 99%, it is brillian, if i had to do anything i would repaint the black again, but other than that it is perfect. i couldnt help myself with the GT either, it had 18×7 and 18×9 simmons, but i have a set or genuine ford globes and the original 12 slots with aquajets…. other than a few internal engine mods it is standard… when i can email you i will tell you some history on my car it is pretty good! my family had my gt in a temp controlled shed, so it was preserved well…. but needed a mechanical rebuild after is sat unturned for 20 years! it took me two days to unpack the apple boxes around it to get it out!

TS50 i have pimped a bit, i love playing with cars, but i always keep all the stock gear for my cars… ill send you a pic of it too it looks the goods with the big wheels on it, just something different! One of my past loves now resides in perth and he works for a dealer over there, it was an XR8 sprint!

I have located a DJR, it is a little pricey but i think i will try to squeeze it in my collection, hence why i need to sell the TS if i do it…. but i have grown attached to the TS, it is a great car… wish it was manual but! although i have fallen in love with the RS4…

  28. Bavarian Missile says:

Hey Tony go over to the Cobra GT 302 Engine page ! I have told you how to get Davids link!

  29. Tonyn says:

just did…. when i get the address ill send you the pics!! i am itching to get mt GT out for a cruise now and im stuck at work….. and then have to go to the motorshow… another late night and no fun weekend!! hehehe…

  30. Bavarian Missile says:

Hey Tony ,David has just emailed me and siad if your email comes back to you send again, his mail box was full!

Your at work again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gee I didn’t know dealers were open on Sundays in the East!!!!! Many lookers ?

Packup day at the show today? I hate packup at a trade event, when we do the Hong Kong trade fair we hire everything we can get our factory to deliver the stock to the fair,we assemble display and on the last day just leave the stand as is! Stock is worth very little and they donate unwanted stock to charity! I guess big cars are a little different ,hahahaha

So when do you get to drive it? You part of a club?

  31. Tonyn says:

i am there till seven to sell then im out of there!!! we work 7 days here, i havent had a day off in two weeks cause of the motorshow!

i havent driven the Gt for at least three months! i am a member of the GT club in NSW

  32. Bavarian Missile says:

I have asked David if he has received your email?

So you didn’t get over to the West for the GT Nationals at Easter? Was a blast!

  33. Bavarian Missile says:

Hey Tonyn David hasn’t received anything yet,did you try sending it again?

  34. tonyn says:

sorry been at the mnotorshow i will resend it now!!

  35. tonyn says:

just resent the email to david, he should get it now, i sent you my personal and work emails!

  36. Bavarian Missile says:

    Cheers…….

  37. Bavarian Missile says:

    Check your personal email address!

  38. Tonyn says:

sorry i did the typical male thing…. went to sleep on the lounge! just sent you the pics then, i will send more when im at home!

  39. Tonyn says:

and no i didnt get to west for the Gt nationals, i had my trip booked but i enede up changing jobs and it was hectic, so i didnt go, i will be at the next nationals though!!

  40. Bavarian Missile says:

hahaha on the couch ha,I thought thats what women did, guys do it the chair!hehehe. Ah the joys of getting older!

Next Nationals is in Adelaide, not sure if we will take ours, will go though!

Off to do the school drop Gym and a solarium now.Back in a few hours, enjoy the pics!

  41. Tonyn says:

yeah some awesome cars you have! My girl was asleep right next to me so there you go…. everyone is happy! hehehe…

I will be taking mine to adelaide, i might be a wuss but and trailer it, i dont know if i want to drive all that way! i know i will prob end up driving it but….

  42. Bavarian Missile says:

Trailer it!!!!!!! We have a fully enclosed trailer for ours but no longer have a Landcruiser,,could hire one I guess!

Problem is with driving them you just about have to sleep in them with a shotty to ensure their not stolen!

Most of the guys with Phase 3s put them in containers !

Hell of a lot of money on the foreshore in Perth the Saturday the Nationals were on……had a free show and shine ,great day never seen so many GTs in one location!

Heres a tip if your going to show it,make sure everything is open if bonnets and boots are shut judges wont judge them, you will miss out on points! Have you got many trophies for it! DO YOU SHOW BOTH !

I better get to work ,phone calls are banking up ,may have to sack myself otherwise…..hahaha gee its good being a director!!!!!!!!!

  43. Tonyn says:

yeah i know what your saying with driving them, if i still have a Q7 i will trailer it, other than that i guess i will drive it…. i do love driving it but you cant keep them anywhere now!

I usually open it all up, or leave just the boot closed, im not a fan of how the boot looks inside.

XA i show all the time, the TS i havent even really driven, ive put 1500 klms on it since i bought it! i have a few trophies for the XA, but none for the TS i have only ever done the sydney all ford day in it! i went to the all ford day in bathurst when it was there was great to see all the Gt’s lined up!

Yes being a director is good fun, i miss running my own business!

General Motors vice-president Bob Lutz has given Holden a glowing wrap after his trip to Australia last week the focus of which was to get an update on the development of Holdens RWD projects in particular the line-up of left-hand-drive cars coming out of Holden’s design and development departments such as the Camaro and G6 [Torana]

“I have never experienced an automotive company [such as Holden], including my three years at BMW, that has so much passion for excellence and dedication to the product,” said Lutz.

Now you might think “Of course hes going to say that.” However; this is a man who is known in the industry for speaking his mind and is not afraid to criticise his own products.. for example he once said that “we aussies build better than the yanks. even though he knew it would upset
a number of fellow execs, jounralists and fans back home

  45. Damo says:

Who really cares? The six speed auto is a slow piece of crap regardless of how many gears there are. From numerous reports I have heard that the six speed auto in the SS acheived higher fuel consumption than the previous povo 4 speeder in the VZ SS. So, it really doesn’t matter because the gearbox sucks balls anyway. If you want a decent autobox V8 just go ford, it is a much better overall package.

  46. Going Ford, Is The Going Thing says:

That’s right Damo, everyone here has gone off topic.

GM’s 6-Speed Auto is not as good the ZF, which used in the Australian Fords.

  47. Andrew M says:

    ok drop everything….

    whats the DJR320 worth????

now that is certainly one you dont see every day. sure you see the odd EL GT and T series every now and then but from memory i dont think i can say ive ever seen a DJR320 driving around.
i thought i nearly saw one one day but it was just a modded Ba GT with a shaker.

ive prob seen i think 2 GTS-R’s around before

  48. Bavarian Missile says:

Nice to have you back Damo!

  49. Bavarian Missile says:

    Sorry Wheelnut,you said
