No Manual for Pontiac G8

October 19, 2007 by George Skentzos

US customers buying the Australian Holden Commodore-based Pontiac G8 will have to wait until 2009 for a manual transmission – if at all.

As with its Australian counterpart, the Pontiac G8 will be available with either the 3.6-litre V6 or 6.0-litre LS2 V8 engine.

At launch, the only transmission available to the US market will be the six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift functionality unique to the US.

“It is believed that there will be a manual option for 2009, although GM has yet to confirm if and when a manual will be available.”

US pricing for the G8 will begin at AU$30,962 for the entry level V6 model, and AU$33,655 for the V8 – a virtual slap in the face for Australian buyers.

The Pontiac G8, which relieves the aging Grand Prix, will begin deliveries in the US by 2008.

ok maybe ive misread wheelnuts comments.
at no time was i implying that VE is as good as BMW i obviously missed something.

hey isnt G6 a registered name in fords hands??

so how about a price on what DJR320’s are going for?

  2. Bavarian Missile says:

    Forgiven!!!!

Yep trade marked to Ford,I thought.

Go on to Australian Muscle Car Sales……..they may have sold one? Tonyn would know being in the industry otherwise!

  3. Tonyn says:

i am looking at buying a DJR320 at the min, aroubnd the $45 to 50k mark should see you into one at the min! i have only been able to find one at the min for sale.

they are rare as, one of the reasons i have ditched the BF cobra idea for one!!

  4. Bavarian Missile says:

AndrewM ,Tonyn has answered your question!

A much better alternative for the Wife than a boring FAIRMONT YAWNNNNNNNNNN! Sorry I said I would stop stirring you didn’t I !!!!!

  5. Andrew M says:

    ha ha ha ha
    my ideal turbo fairmont????

maybe a low K’s XR turbo with some nice fairmont wheels? you can get the turbos for a bloody good price now and that means getting one a few years old leaves plenty of money to trick it up.

im prob not ready for a DJR 320 yet. it would have to be the 3rd car and i dont have room to accomodate it in the way it should be accomodated yet. and the key word is yet!!!

maybe a phase 5 might be a proposition? (or maybe just a dream he he he he)

  6. wheelnut says:

Even though the G6 and G8 may be registered names of Ford. GM would still be allowed to use them because; except in the case of Major Trademarks the US doesn’t recognise product names and the like.

I mean Ford could register the name “Typhoon” for example in Australia – with international reference.. and for some reason under US Law GM could also use the name “Typhoon” on one of their cars.
They get away with it because if Ford wanted to sue GM it would have to be done under US law [because that's where the breach was comitted] and US law allows it to happen.

Yet if a US company registered a particular product name and Ford tried to register the same name you would most likely be sued under international law for $000s if not $000,000’s

  7. Bavarian Missile says:

Ahhh so you stopped sweeping the garage? For the Phase 5 for the moment……as I said to Cobra 045……..when Ford finally announce them they will be all pre sold!!!!! You want a heads up prior so you can reserve one in 2 years!!!!

  8. Bavarian Missile says:

I hear what your trying to say Wheelnut but from my experience in trade marking and design registering Ford would have a case in Australia if GMH tried too !

We have our products trade marked in Europe,Australia {has shit laws by the way……..and because we registered in Europe and Australia first we get first preference in the USA ……so wouldn’t Ford if they tried to fight GM?

Our products are both design and trade marked in all countries!

We have fought large companies and won before ………I think it comes down to Fords care factor on it!

  9. Andrew M says:

yeah the fact that GM would only use it in the US made me think that the laws might provide a sort of loop hole.

i suppose it depends exactlly how they registered it. dont forget that ford is also a US company too and if it (G6 and G8 etc) were also affiliated with that branch then im sure it would be oh oh!! because someone would be upset then.

hey wheelnut have you heard the new holden ute Radio ads? you know where they go through the history 1967, 1977, 1987,1997,2007 commenting on each year when each came out….. have you heard it?
well whats wrong with what i listed??

  10. wheelnut says:

That’s pretty much what it comes down to Missile.
whether you can be bothered to pursue legal action; whether or not you’re prepared to spend $000s on a court case – providing you have the $ [which in reality neither Ford or GM-H or any other car maker for that matter] have.

The only way around it is if GM “agrees” to pay Ford for the use of the name like car companies pay for using the acronyms like ABS; ESP; SRS; DOD; MRC; SMG etc

  11. wheelnut says:

Andrew – I have heard it and I noticed that they say “1987″ when infact Holden didn’t have a ute in the VL series.. Although I have seen one custom built VL ute with stepsides etc

Holden; are just hoping that the majority of people wouldn’t pick-up on it [no pun intended]

However; the reason they say 1987 could be because most “Advertising Gurus” wouldn’t know either.

  12. Andrew M says:

thats right they skipped the ute for quite a while through those series.

yep they must be counting on most people not knowing. and like you said the people trying to sell the new utes prob dont realise either.
i just found it quite funny that they cound play on the revolution of the 1987 holden ute and the great things it brought yet there was no such thing. ha ha ha ha ha ha

although holden does a great job of marketing they really leave themselves open to be torn apart by other manufacturers. if holden were in the great debate they would look mighty silly.

oh its good to see holden tv ads now only say they are celebrating “this month” rather than celebrating “bathurst this month”.
a little bit of editing has finally removed mention of bathurst.

  13. Going Ford, Is The Going Thing says:

Yes, I noticed that they changed their ads. I suppose they don’t want Ford fans making fun of them any more.

  14. ME says:

Making fun of them? Are you serious. You should come to the drags one week and see who is laughing at who.

Also, who is winning in the sales race? Yeah, thats what I thought. Boo Hoo you 14 year old freak.

  15. Damo says:

ME STFU you stuipid bogan ocka. Nobody cares if you drag a vl ss and some ancient unbadged ford down near the trailorpark and then go and wank on about it down at your public library. The fact that you are questioning peoples age clearly shows you areprobably 14 years or less than. If you referring to real drag cars (which you never go to, which shows your lack of knowledge) you would have realised that the cars have extremely heavy mods, run different fuel ocatne ect, and are not ROAD LEGAL! And finally if you could actually read and were able to go to a legal drag session you would see that many of the cars are not bogan-doores and that they do not usually win. So go back to your flipping trailorpark as your beans are getting cold and stop using government funded internet access as I pay for it you bastard.

  16. Going Ford, Is The Going Thing says:

    Whos ME? what an idiot!
HAHA at leats I’m alot older than 14, unlike you less than 10. Just because Holden out sells Ford doesn’t mean it’s a better car.
WHO THE FU*K USES DOORSLAMMER DRAGS FOR ANY REASON TO SAY “HOLDEN MAKE BETTER ROAD CARS”? …umm, dumbarses do!

Dragcars use modified Chev engines with superchargers.

Do Holden make cars with supercharges coming out of the bonnet? How come I’ve never seen one!

Damo I agree, “ME” should stop using gov funded internet in his housing commition flats with sh*t on the floor!

  17. Going Ford, Is The Going Thing says:

I Should of been more pacific there…

ME, you claim the Holden make better cars because of drag race results. Nothing is the same on a drag car to what holden makes. If a Holden beats a Ford, thats because they are not tuned the same. Those drags races are to compare how their teams have done with tuning them.

  18. ME says:

Who said anything about Doorslammers and cars running jungle juice?

You can actually run stock, or very close to stock cars at the drags? Did you guys know that, obviously now otherwise you wouldn’t have made yourself look like tools.

Love the comment “Drag cars use modified Chev engines” …

    GOLD

What you really should have said was:

“I know nothing about cars, which is probably why I’m into Fords in the first place.”

It’s OK fellas, I needed a good laugh. Haven’t laughed like that since my old man’s AUIII XR8 did a diff after 2,000klms. Not bad for a 70 year old man!

  19. ME says:

Oh, and Going Ford, Is The Going Thing.

When you said: “I Should of been more pacific there…”, you really should have wrote
“I should have been more SPECIFIC there”…

Seriously, how old are you? If you are any older than 16, you seriously should look into expanding your education.

In all honesty the fact that you persistently continue to question people’s age as your only defence in many of your posts leads me to believe even more that you are not so old yourself. The fact that you continually return to this site and rant the same boring lies is even sadder. Why can’t you just piss off somewhere else (ie. drive) because you would be a typical regular and fit in with many of those drongo’s. Anyway, why must you act so flipping obcessed with holden? There are more automotive brands than holden and ford, and many of them better and more pristine as well. Just get a life.

No, it is not, I rarely use this site and I took a browse through and saw it had attracted a few more mindless bogans (you) which was the reason I left this site and I was here back in the day with steane and the crowd when it took off. You and a few other ocka’s show up and thing that Holden is great ect… If you take a look I rarely use this site, I have not used it in about 6 months infact, and the only reason I am coming back to this post is because I am using netscape and it automatically made it a homepage and if I come across some bogan’s comment(s) and do not agree with them I am obliged to voice thy truths am I not?

  26. driving-Fords-is-like-sex says:

HEY! That person called, “ME” I’ve been looking through this site and seems “GOING FORD IS THE GOING THING” used to be called “Me.” Get your own name Holden freak!

  27. driving-Fords-is-like-XXX says:

Holden fans like “ME” go on like they 12 (and are) I live in a Holden area and Holden fans still haven’t told me a reason why “FORD SUCK” yet!

GEEZZZ, ME’s an idiot! Hope he goes back to his Holdenwoo forum.
