2009 Honda Fit (Jazz) Preview
October 19, 2007 by George Skentzos
Ahead of its official reveal at the Tokyo Motor Show, Honda has released official images of the Jazz successor – the new Honda Fit.
Building on the previous generation’s reputation for quality, efficiency and sporting nature, the new Honda Fit is set to launch in Japan on October 26th.
The new Fit has been stretched by 2 inches and the A-pillars moved forward, adding to cars interior space.
The increased room has allowed for “Ultra Seats”, which can be arranged in four different configurations including a Refresh mode which turns the interior into a bed – perfect.
The Honda Fit will be available with either a 1.3-litre or optional 1.5-litre engine.
Impressively, buyers will also have the option of either front or all-wheel drive, as well as a five-speed automatic, a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission.
Pricing in Japan will begin at around AU$11,140 and reach AU$16,600 for the top of the line model.
Honda will retain the Jazz name in Australia.

its great step for this car- i have one and its great! :P
its very similar to the Jazz thats been selling since 2002. like tooooooooo similar.
That’s because Honda know this is a winning formula, it’s extremely popular in the JDM and Europe.
I highly HIGHLY doubt that this car will start for AUD$11k when it comes here. Damn price differences.
I wonder how many they would have sold if they’d retained the name “Fit” for AU.
“What car do you drive, mate?” – ” err, a Fit” “a WHAT?” “a FIT” “shit mate, I drive a TIIDA, what the hell’s a FIT” ……….
It’s interesting to finally see a return of the seats that fold flat. My 1960 Fiat 1100D Riviera had fold flat seats – it was a hoot at the drive-in, seats down, blankets out, watch a bit of the film, hehehe….
COROLLA DRIVER…..do you mean you know Toyota Paul personally as sound much like it! Hey, like what about the Corolla, Landcruiser and others. Obviously you have memory loss!
Too similar to the current one which is already dating terribly. Cleaner more modern lines are needed like in the COLT
Personally, they dropped the ball on the rear taillights.
Does this car get released in 2009? Why is it called 2009 FIT?
Yeah…looks too familiar to the existing Jazz…
But at least from the sound of things Honda has put the most effort where it counts for this class of car… like space optimisation and fuel efficiency… the 1.3 does 4.1 litres per 100k… damn! that’s getting close to hybrid territory! sure you ain’t gonna get that result from day to day driving, but it is still an impressive figure!
good one Honda…
for those who think the “Fit” and “Tiida” are funny names… anyone interested in a Nissan “Fairlady”??? why do japanese car companies come out with zany names like these????
Japan apparently has the highest number of Engineering graduates per capita in the world, and it shows with there efficiency of building cars… i think they now need to get their names right…
And what the f is a cedric???
Haha yeah Cedric. Was it “The Big Steal” that had one in it? That Aussie movie with Claudia Karven and Jeremy Simms where he had the hots for a Jaguar?
Ah……… but to own a Fit better than having a fit……
the front of the car looks very much like my civic type R. the hood and the front grill is the same basic shape. i think honda are trying to standardise their designs
Fit looks the same current Jazz…
That’s right, Ben Worthy would like the name Jazz because hes a Trumpet nut kid. If he sees this, he’ll have a fit! LOL
Not a bad attempt. These things do down well with the old fogies in the UK.
Hey 4.1 litres per 100 in nothing for a little engine.
I’ve just done 5.69litres/km in a 2lit diesel over 1317kms in two days at 130kmh.
Yes it looks similar. Yes the fuel economy is great. Get a current jazz vti on a tight windy section of road and thrash the nuts off it (keep it at 3500 – 4500 rpm) and that’s a good afternoon. Now they are adding AWD. That’s different. That’s exciting. That’s going to shread some rubber. Stick that in your Tiida. Then, once you’ve taken all day to waste one tank of petrol, cut some ZZZZZ’ s on the fold flat seats. If that comes in a package for under $ 24 990 then I’m all over it. Sounds like fun on a stick.
I drive allready the Jazz in Holland for many years, and I like it. 16,5 km on 1lt, that is very nice. I hope they bring a bigger engine than the 1.4 I have now. I heared that they will bring a 1.5lt. So that would be nice. In Holland we pay too much tax on a car like this. About 6.000 Euro on a small car like this, that’s crazy!!!!
Well I think ..its d best step which Honda has taken to promote its first ever small car segment in India …..Iam associated with this company from last one year …and we are workin harder to give the best outcome for locals ….Iam looking forward for my new Car which will Jazz in another year ..I think our country will like this car !!!!
WELL I THINK SAY THIS NEW NAME IS HONDA JAI THIS NAME IS VERY GOOD
AWD glad! Hope it comes with cruise control and vehicle stability control too. I think I will buy one if the price is right.
stop all of u saying stupid comments , this car whichever called fit or jazz won the best affordable car in usa
I do not care for the name of a car: I am not interested in calling it, I want to drive it …
And I drive a Jazz since 2002 – the 12th car in my live and by far the best: I will buy the Fit/Jazz as soon as he arrives in my country (Austria/Europe) and it will be the first time I buy the same car a second time …
I got a jazz best car I ever owned, will buy another
JAzz bloody great
will buy another
I love my Honda Jazz. I use it like a ute. The best feature is the different positions you can move the back seats to put large objects in my car. Its fantastic and I was hoping the new Jazz would have features like cruise control and controls on the steering wheel for sound etc. Its the first time I have wanted to buy another of the same type of car. I call it the Tardis because it looks like a phone box on the outside but its sooo much bigger on the inside. Cant wait to try out the new one!! Go Honda.
