2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Review
The outer skin would be completely smooth if not for the multiple air intakes all over the car. These are vital for cooling various key components. The side intakes are huge, particularly that on the left hand side, where it feeds cool air to the oil radiator.
When the temperature gets too hot these intakes, which are thermostatically controlled, actually open up, allowing more air into the ducts. Awesome stuff.
To hit anything near 300km/h, an engine needs to develop huge power and torque outputs. Producing 471kW at 8000rpm and 660Nm at 6000rpm, the Lamborghini V12 powertrain has what it takes.
Incidentally, the LP stands for “longitudinal posteriore” and the 640 as you might have guessed, is the horsepower output, for the benefit of those hoards of cashed up folks in the US.
Climbing into the driver’s seat for the first time is another surprise. It’s easy! Not what I was expecting at all. The scissor doors open with a Star Wars-like hiss and allow a wide entry into the cockpit.
We fire up the V12 monster and quickly adjust the side mirrors, which could feature in a design museum all on their own. Works of art.
I’m expecting the clutch to feel like a fully laden leg press machine at the gym but again, surprise. It’s no harder than an R8 Clubsport, as I shift the gear lever into the first gear gate and off we go. I’m pretty certain that you could hit 130km/h in first, maybe more. Power delivery is not harsh though, I’m starting to think anyone could drive this car with some degree of competence.

Incredible car. One day I hope to own one, just like every man does.
Granted I’ll be 90 years old, spoon fed, and partially blind, but it will definitely be worth it.
At least on the Lambo, you know the vents are there for a reason with that big 6.5L V12 jet engine in the rear.
Gee you guys have a tough “job”! I can’t think of a better way to spend a working day than driving one of these beauties.
Fast and Beautiful.
Take notes Zonda
It was a hard day :)
But this car is just unreal – there is nothing like it on earth!
Hey Alborz..you should have got a short video of it…never actually heard one of these on road, bet it sounds fantastic.
I second that motion ALBORZ if possible. Also does sooty water deposits occur on rear centre exhaust similar to TRD Aurion. Internal pics?
If I was going to use one word: EXOTIC
I feel Lamborghini is becoming too German like with these dull greys, right angled designs…
Italians do elliptical designs, I wonder how much input Audi has now in these designs?
Take a look at the Miura and first Countach, sexy…
Now look at Lamborghini of today…All scientific.
I get depressed when I see these cars because I know I will never ever get to own one, let alone drive one.
I just love that HUGE exhaust!
That’s pretty cool that the intakes expand to get more in air too!
I’ll just go and sob quietly in the corner now :(
Cool Anthony has the ride this time!
They really do nothing for me in looks but just the way you describe it gives you tingles!!!!!!Great story by the way!
I love the line where you say” I’m starting to think anyone could drive this car with some degree of competence.” I was anticipating the next page to say until you stomp on it!
I have always found it funny how the lower you sit to the ground in a car the less speed you feel your doing,in something like that I doubt I would have a licence for long!
What is the difference between this one and the Alborz drove several months ago also in the rain?
Are those ceramic brakes an option or standard? Cheap I would say! Not! Great story again ,well done!
Yep I am with Import Jap, surely cant sound better than the Aston though!!!!!
Droooooooooooolllllllllllllll
Italian supercar soul and heritage with German reliability added. Now the car won’t need an engine rebuild at every service……
Doesn’t get much better than that. :)
Yer but what does a service cost?
$1,000,000?
I think this is the best-looking Lambo to date. I feel it’s a totally different car to the Aston – different class. If you have the money, get both and take the Aston for dates, Lambo for road trips!
These cars are just badass. I mean, look at that interior, if you took a date in that she would be shitting her pants just looking at the inside of this thing. If batman had to buy a production car, this would be it.
that car is downright inhuman, who would be mental enough to build such a thing, not even superman himself could extract 10 tenths out of it! love it.
Who actually imports lambos here? I am going to convince my father to buy this for his retirement!
I want this car so much i would sell everything I own (including my kidneys, cause without them I wont be able to piss my pants as I drive 300+ km).
cmon, this car eats the aston for breakfast.
it would definitely be lambo for dates and road trips. or perhaps an f430.
Never said the Lambo wouldn’t do the Aston, does it sound as good though!
The Lambo is a head turner but hardly something I could see myself in retirement! I will aim the Aston still!
Hello guys,
I don’t know how long you had this car for from Lambo AU or how long you had given yourselves to write this review but this has got to be the worst written piece of auto review write-ups I have read on the LP640.
Seriously you guys are lucky to be loaned a car of this price level and you written this review as if a 17 year old had been given the keys and the sales brochure.
Your sites reviews of everyday cheaper price pointed cars have been written to a much higher level in the past.
Please try to keep your level of journalistic writing up to this level and don’t let the team down when you get the keys to something as exciting as a supercar of this nature and you will keep your readership who returns to your site.
An anomalous caradvice reader.
Hi there,
We only had the LP640 for 8 hours and we hit rain for the first 2 hours. Impossible to write a comprehensive review in such a short period behind the wheel.
Thanks for the feedback though.
Anthony
Anomalous? Don’t you mean anonymous?
Nah importjap he is trying to impress caradvice with his spelling LOL .. Nice car though …
I actually enjoyed this review, if I wanted to read about how fast it goes from 0-100 or how it has hand stiched leather seats, I could read some boring review in something like Wheels, but this is more entertaining.
I want one!
youre kidding?
i work down the road from a Lambo Dealer and every time i hear or see one of these things my heart flutters. there is one parked down the road on the street quite regularly and even when it is parked people still have to move into the other lane to get around it if i win lotto and buy one im getting the number plate FATARSE
Ok driving back from gym feeling special driving in the Cobra…
and a quick jump back to reality as I spot a Lamborghini Galliardo…….all black ! Now I have seen this car several times around my streets and wondered are there 2 cause one has GO MUM GO number plates the GO DAD GO both black….most people said naaaa your dreaming! Well I saw it again and have since been told that the owners of Adult shop live in my area
and they own them…..Money in Porn!!!!!
I actually cant even pretend i read that whole review.. I was in too much of a hurry to see the next photo.. I was always a Ferrari fan when i was younger, now im almost glad im not rich – it would kill me deciding what to buy. That is one beautiful peice of automotive art..
hey there guys , there some interestin opinions about the lambo, the fact is its a hot car most of us will never own or even get a chance to hear its sound. aww well i guess some crackhead could ve said aww just buy an evo ix or STI and tune them it will be quicker then lambo Lp 640. whats the point when they ll look shitter then a golf lol, i guess its the physical appearance of the car especially in yellow that looks hot, anyways one of the guys i know that lives here in sydney coudnt afford the lp 640 lambo but wanted it so bad that he had to have it, guess what he did? he bought the shell of the car and put his MR 2 toyota turbo engine in it, however this is a highly modified MR2 toyota about 500Kws which means he s got a turbo charged lambo now, lucky SOB lol.
Ha Ha Ha just another ironing board with wheels, at least an ironing board is practical.
An ironing board on wheels…………….thats a bloody lie WILLIAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is a beautiful creation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The clutch is no harder than a Clubsport R8, HEY!!!
Bugatti = alot better!
Why did “WILLIAM” ever come to a site like this in the first place? Look at all his posts, they are all negitive.
nice cars but ive seen better
lamboz suck ass, hsvs are better
anyone driving behind this lambo would have the best view. that fat rump is just gorgeous
i love this car my uncle has one and i garentee it isnt a ironing board on wheels
i’m back again! because i drove next to one in adelaide. pearl yellow and the plates MHH. absolute beauty. only lp640 in sa i believe.
i used to think, kenwood nav, off centre steering wheel, no thanks!
after seeing it up close, the only two things that matter are, the way it looks and the way it sounds (those down shifts with e gear are amazing).
i’d say 9/10 people in cars look, stare, grin, and go crazy.
even an attractive lady walking on the footpath turned and locked her eyes on this beast (or beauty) as the downshift caught her attention.
sounds cliche, i know. but i’m telling the truth unlike colby here, who’s “uncle” has one.
How could someone (HSVHero) say that HSV’s are better then lambos. I bet if someone took a HSV onto the street noone would really care because there is so many around, unlike lamborghini’s!!
