2012 Lotus Esprit to be revealed at Paris Auto Show

Lotus has confirmed it will unveil, among other cars, the new Esprit at the upcoming Paris Auto Show in September. Insiders say the new version will be the ultimate expression of the Lotus brand and they also say it could be powered by an exotic, 400kW-plus V10.

Lotus has always had close ties with Toyota, so rumors have been circulating about the possibility of the new Esprit being powered by the Lexus LF-A V10 engine. We have to remember the old Esprit was once the fastest car in the world, so before Lotus attaches the Esprit badge to any of its future cars, they will have to be careful and make sure the car lives up to the name.

Although no official specifications have been confirmed or released, Lotus has said it is planning to take a serious swing at the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche, so using a high-output motor of some description is very likely.

Lotus has also confirmed two new, front-engined GT cars will also be unveiled at the show, which further emphasises the company's plans to tap into other markets. The new cars are said to adopt a more luxury, upmarket specification compared to its current lineup.

We won't be able to tell exactly what Lotus has up its sleeves though until the show, but we'll keep you updated as it progresses.
