Thanks to a friendly Ford dealer, we can have a look at the engine of the limited edition FPV Cobra GT.

The new Boss 302 engine powering both the 400 sedan and 100 Ute variants produces 302 kW of power and 540 Nm of torque. FPV has upgraded the engine with stainless steel fabricated exhaust manifolds and a high-flow dual exhaust system.

The car was officially unveiled at the Sydney MotorShow last week, but we encountered some difficulties trying to take a photo of the engine bay!

Interesting bit of vid that. I’m betting Alborz will put it up. Driver didn’t seem too fussed, did he?

That’s off v8supercars . com . au
I don’t think they’ve updated it yet because Matt White said Tander was third. Can’t remember the points he said.
Thanks for that……so that a bigger lead on Crash now! Cool!
I have stuck the link up Watto…its awaiting Moderation !
Alborz is a busy boy I guess he may do something Monday with it?
Did you see the bit on Channel Ten a coupla days ago where a crew ambushed an Orion sedan and ute?
I’m back to work Monday :-( Got a bit of work done around home but had a nice lazy two weeks with Bathurst, Phillip Island GP, Indy, been a good two weeks. So I won’t be on as much, but will check in nearly every day.
Watto, What show was that where they ambushed an orion?
NO ……….tell me more!
Arrr, forgot you were on Holidays! Gee that went fast ,always does! I guess some of us are lucky to work for themselves and at a desk……sometimes!
Hubby just checked in he is in Eucla .Did 1300 klms today. Nice Hotel he says…..hehehe 5 star car no star hotel!
There both too tired to do anything but sleep anyway!
Got pulled over for using a radar detector today….the cops use radar detectors detectors to get you!! No officer thats my Sat nav……sitting on the dash..He averaged 150 klms an hour today. When the cop pulled him over he said don’t worry your not speeding {he was,140 clicks cop didn’t care} we think you have a radar detector he says! Our son was real fast ripping it off the dash under seat!hehehe.
Stopping in Kalgoorlie to see our friends tomorrow, only 900 ks…. then home Monday! Car hasn’t missed a beat!
It was just a 1 minute spot on the Channel Ten news. The cars still had so much cladding, padding, and camo/bras on you still didn’t see much. Wasn’t much more than we’ve seen before.
But in a close up I could clearly the shape of the headlight through the bra. The FPV CGI’s supposedly found at the tip we’ve all seen? They looked just like that shape. Shame the news isn’t in 1080p, then I mighta got a better look, lol.
I’ve heard of radar detector detectors. How do they work? I thought a radar detector was completely passive, as in, they detect radar wavelengths but don’t send out their own signal. As in active and passive sonar on a submarine.
Haha, copper must have just wanted to pull him over for a better look :-)
Oh yeah, tell him to watch out for roos (as if I needed to say that).
It’s so quiet without Toyota_Paul & Naughtyius Maximus on here trading jibes.
^Yes, but Don’t forget “FOOTBALL HAMBURGERS EAGLES AND HOLDENWOO CRAP” too! :D
Haha, you must have scared him off GF,ITGT because he hasn’t been back yet.
It was Ford’s old slogan vs Holdenwoo’s old ‘crap’ slogan.
“Going Ford, is the going thing won” & “Football, Hamburgers, Eagles and Holdenwoo cars” lost. :) I can’t get over the way Ford beat the sh!t out of it, just goes to show, Ford had a better slogan! LOL!
Hey Watto………..my link didn’t get listed..mmmmm???
Will check with Alborz Monday!
Hey Me ……..you missing your partner in crime tonight? hehehe
He will be back on the no manual for pontiac like he was last night I imagine!
Went back for a closer look at your link. It’s still hard to pick out the general shape but I noticed these things:-
* The pull type door handles – I’m not much for the round recess to fit your hand into, oval would’ve been better.
* Thank god cars don’t come out with rims like those.
* The very back line of the rear doors, straight line from bottom of window down to sill, looks exactly like VE, which looks exactly like another car (I’ve forgotten which one). I find this strange because AU-BF and VT-VZ were utterly different.
* The A-pillar looks really slim. Most common complaint I’ve heard from a VE’s driver seat is how thick the A-pillar is, actually affecting vision. Orion’s looks really slim but I hope that doesn’t affect safety rating (I couldn’t give a stuff but other people find it important).
Go to bed…….Bulge in the bonnet that means V8 Model!
I have looked at it too several times there good pics of it!
Rat rims….hehehe
Same problem in the BA/F series too with that pillar!
The Back pillar is where the real design will come into the back I think, they have really tried to cover it up!
I guess Feb wont come soon enough ! Colour will be interesting……Ford have this happy knack of providing great colours and then changing them! I mean the Blood Orange was meant to be the most popular colour in the BAs and the canned it for that metallic orange that just isn’t the same! Some nice bright colours again would be good!
QUOTE = Bavarian Missile “Same problem in the BA/F series too with that pillar!”
Do you mean same prob as VE being too thick for visibility?
Agree on the paint. There was one bloke at work who wouldn’t say a good thing about Ford EVER. But he did say one day he wished Holden would come up with some decent bloody colours like Ford. A while later he grudgingly admitted he got ripped by a ‘Phoon.
Yep thats what I mean, you have to look around it! But I think that seems the go with most car now as there getting safer, when I had a Volvo I just about had to climb over the seat to see what was coming,ok slightly exaggerated!
Ripped by a Phoon hahaha, bet there is a few that have had that experience, the Phoons are a lot more subdued than the GTs to look at ,bet a few in Euro cars have been caught by them!
Hey Tonyn if you scroll up you will see Davids email address,I have asked him to forward on my email address to you!
Cheers
dealer still cant tell me when my Cobra arrives.. It has not left melbourne yet!!!
Thats crap ………you want me to try finding out for you!
Brett said ring FPV with your Build number….demand an answer! We did when there was delay with our BA….they have a customer service section!

“I’ve heard of radar detector detectors. How do they work? I thought a radar detector was completely passive, as in, they detect radar wavelengths but don’t send out their own signal. As in active and passive sonar on a submarine.”
Not quite… a radar detector uses what is known as a superheterodyne receiver.
A superhet receiver basically works by “mixing” the incoming radio signals with a known frequency internally generated waveform (known as the Local Oscillator). What this does is shift down the frequency spectrum of the radio signal to a band that is suitable for processing. Once the incoming radio signal has been shifted it is now ready to be processed. The radio signal of concern (Say 24.150GHz in the case of K-band Police radar units) is now amplified and demodulated in order to see the final signal.
The reason a radar detector is detectable by a radar-detector-detector is because the internal Local Oscillator (@ approx 11GHz for most radar detectors) creates an eletromagentic field which “leaks” out of the radar detector antenna horn. The radar detector detector is tuned to look for RF emissions at in the 11Ghz frequency band.
A radar detector is is nothing more than a simple (albeit very well tuned) radio receiver – just like the one you listen to music on at home. It is just setup to constantly keep scaninng the frequencies that Police equipment transmit on (24.15GHz K-band, and 33.4GHz-36.0GHz Superwide band Ka) and alert you if a signal is found at any of those frequencies.
Wholly crap Crazy John has died at only 42 years old!!!!!
Gee Ross I think you have become Caradvices techno guru!
Your answer to anything mechanical is always a great read! Well done!! No idea what it means …..but well done!hahaha
You don’t have a little propeller on the top of a baseball cap though do you?????? Sorry I don’t imagine you look like a geek at all!
the worst pillars can be seen in the falcon utes thanks to the supercab setup.
judging by spy shots ford has also done something with the 2 pillars and hopefully it means there is more visibility. it prob wont occur to you until the first time you drive a falcon ute (if you havent already).
but in the holden cap they have somehow engineered a pillar section that amazingly looks like you get even more of a blind spot!!!! wow now thats value for money.
and then if you pay even more for a maloo you get absolute maximum blind spot.
never travel beside a maloo because if he wants to change lanes there is no way he will be able to see you.
shoulder check proves nothing in a ute, rather you have to twist and look out the rear window to get a safer clearer view. you cant do that with the maloo as the “maloo bar” and very high hard lid mean you cant even look through the rear glass.
utes might be off topic but since we are talking about pillars and visibility………
If I crush a VE ute flat when driving the F-250, now I’ll know why! Thanks for the advice Andrew!
Firstly thanks!
Secondly – trust me I look far from a propeller head!! haha
ha ha yeah going thing,
tell the cops that one when they try to get it from under the bumper of the 250.
i think a simple comment like “well its shite any way” would stand up in court but if not then yes the blind spot issue will for sure.
looking at the spyshots of the falcon ute it looks like they have worked on it whereas the people at commy look like they have made it even worse
Thanks for that explanation Ross. I actually understood most of that, I was into electronics for a few years when I was a teenager. Top bit of info there.
its just a heap of plastic. woo hoo. holdens had 300kw motors back in 2000. took yous long enough.
You know Andrew your right apart from Wheelnut and Matt {who secretly is a Ford lover too} There doesn’t seem to be a Holden supporter that comes on these sites with an IQ above room temperature!
What Holden in 2000 had 300 kws Monkey!!!!!
Lol they had oil drinking piston slapping V8s to. Somehow I think the Cobra with its sophisticated engine is a tad better then Holdens ancient pushrod… and interior plastics, the Cobra and most other cars in the world shyte all over the Holdens, admittably I havent sat in a HSV but the SS was dreadful.
Well Bavarian, the 2000 VT GTS for one, 300kw C4B.
And Toyota Paul, just because its a pushrod engine doesnt mean shit. The LS1/LS2 is more fuel effiecient and has more grunt than the ford 5.4 litre, and that’s not even my thoughts, read Motor or Wheels magazine for the same comments. The only thing thats has been written about the Ford Boss donk was that it sounded better, so you might wanna keep that mouth shut when treading in unfamiliar territory.
You might want to read up on the internal physics of a combustion engine aswell, you might learn a few things about the old pushrod design.
Dont forget, Turbo’s and EFI have been around since… well, look that up too while you’re there ;)
Annnnnd…, interior of an SS woefull? Compared to what? A Bentley. It didnt win Car of the Year for nothing, you I guess Toyota_paul is way smarter than 10 very experienced Journos.
You know what was the worst car interior that I have seen in recent times? That bloody Toyota Aurion. Every knob felt like it was going to break off and my god did it creak and moan when driving over rough stuff.
Geeze, you Ford guys arn’t a very bright bunch are yas :)
DOHC – 1912
Pushrod – 1903
Not much of a difference in years. Pushrods are ideally suited to V8’s, where power is needed under 6500RPM, especially in light weight V configs coupled with all alloy blocks. GM have really excelled in Pushrod technology, just take a look at the LS3 and LS7 motors.
Geez Monkey you mates with Smokin R32 !!!!!He had the same argument about Wheels and Motor mag too…….mate there one eyed Holden supporters you haven’t realized that yet like the rest of us! Oh and of course they agree with each other their both owned by APC .
Now I have cut and pasted my reply to Smokin R32 even though he couldn’t support the fact that Holden has always been faster than Ford ,so I had to do his Home work for him
My reply as follows
Ok I will ,lets compare The BOSS 290 in the BA when it came out first compared to the GTS Monaro same year!
BAGT 0-100 from memory was 5.5 sec 5.4 litre
GTS Monaro from Wheels 5.8 sec 5.7 litre
1/4 mile times….
BAGT 14.1 depends who drove it ,stock we got 13.9
GTS Monaro 13.9 that was wheels driving it,remember Wheels always get stuff from Holden with Ks on it Ford theres is hardly run in with Wheels times most of the time!
XY GT PHASE 3 1/4 MILE TIME 14.7 sec
HT MONARO GTS 350 15.6 sec
Below my reply to Smokin R32 when he said Ford weren’t proud of the GT name……pffttttt
“So what makes you think Ford isn’t proud of the GT name,it is the EPITOME in names in Australian Muscle Cars ,has been for 40 years! ”
About that 300 kw GTS in 2000…..
Oh and Holden didn’t have a 300kw Commodore then HSV did straight from Callway! Mate at lest Ford owns the majority share of FPV…….Holden don’t seem to be able to do it by themselves without help from crate motors! You do have to ask your self then 7 years ago HSV got 300 kws from the GTS ,7 YEARS later the GTS still has 300 kws at a cost of $93.000 ,bargain! not! Geez us Ford Guys are a Bright Bunch!
Hey Cobra owners letting you know I am going to check with Chief Car Covers if they will make a Cobra styled cover for me! Unless they do allready ? Bought a yellow one for the XA last XMAS may get him one for the Cobra for this XMAS!!!
Took about 2-3 weeks to make I think! Will let you know how I go!
Thats the weird bit Andrew see the 26th on this post by Paul,he sticks up for Ford…..so when he bagged them today I was gob smacked!
Just read the new Wheels with Cobra in it! Wheels are saying a 14.5 time out of the auto???????????right!Mind you the new Holden ute they haven’t tested cause their waiting for it too do 10,000 ks cause piston slapping Holden rev better!hehehe they ESTIMATE,yep ESTIMATE 13.5 from it!!…..how many cases of Scotch did Wheels get for that one from Holden!
Hey B Missile,
can you tell me more about the car cover you looking at. do they have website? approx how much?
No problem Muzz…..will email you the link to her site….if I can find it!!
Anyone that didn’t get their MP3 plug in their Cobra take it back to your dealer and get it installed. Some cars missed out getting them, like ours!
Hi Bav Missile,
I havent been around for a while. Just wondering if you eaver got a car cover for your cobra, I’d luv to see a photo of it if u have one. Thanks.
Hey Muz……..yep got one for him at Christmas. haven’t got a photo of it though. Looks cool will see what I can do re a photo
I’m sorry I came to the privite Cobra owners forum.
