Thanks to a friendly Ford dealer, we can have a look at the engine of the limited edition FPV Cobra GT.
The new Boss 302 engine powering both the 400 sedan and 100 Ute variants produces 302 kW of power and 540 Nm of torque. FPV has upgraded the engine with stainless steel fabricated exhaust manifolds and a high-flow dual exhaust system.
The car was officially unveiled at the Sydney MotorShow last week, but we encountered some difficulties trying to take a photo of the engine bay!

Neville, just curious, how much did you spend if you don’t mind saying?
I’ve heard it’s pretty cheap to really up the performance of an XR6T or Typhoon.
Ive heard of people also doing up their XR6T, friend of a friend has 330rwkw. BUT I personally dont rate it, fair enough it has power, but it looks like a ordinary XR6T… boooooooring. At least the Typhoon and GTs back up their performance with decent looks… although in saying this the Cobra doesnt do much for me, white…. like a taxi.
May not do anything for you Paul but close up it a great looking car. Hubby picked his up this morning and has said it better finished off than previous models. Oh and an added bonus he has made $23.000 in 2 weeks on it .Try doing that with your TRD….HEHEHE I do agree with you on the non FPV lines they are a tad boring but I guess thats an incentive to buy FPV,if you can afford it!

Not sure what people’s angle is with the ‘taxi’ line. Think of the taxi – it’s an endurance run from start to finish, and requires a hard wearing car.

1. Taxis are not white with blue cobra stripes on them.
2. They don’t use FPVs, that’s for sure!

Ok a little update…..hes now done a bit over 500 clicks on a full tank.Not bad considering hes on and off the throttle bedding in those rings. Has said its a little noisier than the standard exhaust but it has a new system too! O2 sensors are in the engine pipe he informs me ,so they too have been moved!
Showed with rocks from one truck so lucky the bra was on! No damage,phew!!!
Will start getting on it soon…..radar detector on board!

On the topic of XR6Ts and price to mod one, mine makes 274rwkws with tune only – NO hardware mods at all. Factory air filter, full exhaust and all.
Cost was $900 including flash tuner. Let me just say that not many VE’s (or Skylines hehe :) ) have been too pleased getting beaten by a stock looking XR6T.

It’s performance should keep me happy for a long time, then when the warranty runs out, may want to do some cheaps mods for a significant return.
What does 274rwkws convert to at the flywheel? Just a C.A.P.A (or something similar) gave you that much increase? Impressive. You running the ZF 6-speed?
They really can do it cheaper than the GTs ,I know !

Plus headers,cold air intake,colder thermostat,KN Air Filter and under drive pulleys ! Not sure of his exact dyno figures but he does have them !
No idea what it is at the flywheel crap at maths…..I think you lose around 25% power through the drive train but could be wrong!

We have always been manual people ,in the 20 odd years of driving I would be lucky to have had 2 autos! I know the ZF is meant to be good but I feel it more sporty with a manual,plus we don’t have a lot of traffic here in the west!
i dont get y ppl say the stock xr6t bodykit is bad? but hey if u wanna go spend 60+thousand bucks on a car that only has 15kw more than the xr6t go ahede all ur realy payin for is the FPV badge im not bagin the typhoon (i love them think there orsm) but they rnt worth 20k more for a body kit that costs 2-3k and 15kw that would cost 1.5k to get more than 45rwkw more than the phoon y buy it when u can make a phoon for less than what it costs to buy new? and another y pay 39k for a xr6 non turbo when 41k gets u a xr6t y? i love my fords but think that the v8’s r a thing off the past turbos the new way!!!!
It’s my understanding, the ‘phoon has a much stronger bottom end than XR6T so it depends on what you want.
If you want to go beyond 400rwkws, start off with the ‘phoon because you won’t have to rebuild with more expensive bits to cope with so much power.

Yeah, only accident I’ve been in, so I didn’t even know what to do. We pulled over, I got out and spent a minute looking at the back of my car. When I walked over to him, he’d already written his insurance info on the back of a business card. Was fixed in a week.
My hack is an old EB on gas. Very reliable and cheap. It was full of dents when I got it, so not worried about idiots opening their doors into it at the supermarket or work. Problem is, how many regos/cars can you afford. I have my trail bike, weekend car, and work hack. That will have to do.

I did some numb things when I was young,like trying to race my ex husband home ! He was in a Porsche me a new BMW !
I passed him ,cause I was brave and stupid at the same time went to go around a corner into a street to fast and slid off the road! Stuffed a strutt and a new BBS rim ! I was only 20 years old! Then about 2 weeks later was coming home sensibly through some really bad corners in the pitch black dark and a drunk came up behind me with his lights on full beam and ran me off the road,the BM landed on its side! So whist that was getting fixed I used the Porsche ,till a granny did a U turn in front of me and I ran in to her, I doubt many body works would have both spouses cars in at once to fix! Not my fault she paid ,the police man was very nice to me,took me home !
So with only the XA GT coupe left and a imaco black 4 door A9X left I went with the A9X. No I didn’t stack that too!
6 weeks driving the A9X daily ,I was glad to get into something quieter!
So I am a little experienced in car accidents ,not all my fault! Came back from picking up my Visa once in the City to find the whole front bumper missing off the BA GT,a truck had clipped it when parking.
