McLaren MP4-12C Supercar takes Pole Position at Goodwood

The Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK may as well be billed as the world’s best car show, if it’s fast cars that you’re into.

For manufacturers of supercars and supercar concepts –it’s nothing short of the Holy Grail, as spectators and industry heavyweights come together to witness the world’s fastest cars doing what they do best – going ballistic on the Goodwood Hillclimb course.

All the legends were there, guys like Jackie Stewart and Stirling Moss, as well as contemporary F1 racers Jensen Button and Lewis Hamilton, who got a steer in the ex-Ayrton Senna McLaren MP4/2C before both drivers piloted the latest greatest supercar to hit the streets, the McLaren MP4-12C.

The 12C was afforded full honours at this year’s festival as the first car to driven up Goodwood Hill last Friday, effectively leading a star studded line-up which included every supercar worth a mention.

The McLaren was finished in Volcano Orange and fitted with a set of superb Lightweight forged alloy wheels as the car’s super tuned 3.8-litre twin-turbo engine played it’s tune to over 176,000 Goodwood visitors, keen for a closer look at the car.

There was even a rolling chassis, which exposed the McLaren’s bespoke hydraulic suspension set-up, and its carbon monocell chassis.

McLaren Automotive Managing Director Antony Sheriff couldn’t have planned it better if he had tried and said: “The visitors to our stand were the perfect blend of car enthusiasts and potential customers; I’m delighted that we chose the Goodwood Festival of Speed to unveil the 12C to the public. Two British Formula 1 World Champions were behind the wheel of the car as we led the field up the hill…”

“This is just the start for McLaren Automotive. In five year’s time, I expect us to be presenting a full range of performance-focused sports cars…”
