By George Skentzos |

BMW has showcased the new M Sport Package for its next generation BMW 5 Series sedan and touring models.

Comprising a raft of visual changes from the M parts catalogue, the new M Sport Package for the BMW 5 Series also serves to preview the forthcoming BMW M5 super sedan.

The upgrade consists of a more aggressive M aerodynamics package including a new front bumper and rear diffuser along with M Sports suspension and 18-inch M lightweight alloy wheels featuring a double spoke design.

Also available as optional extras are bigger 19-inch M lightweight alloy wheel as well as an M Division rear spoiler for the sedan.

Inside the M Sport Package adds sports seats in a combination Alcantara finish with constrasting stitching, M Sport steering wheel and gear knob and an anthracite roof lining.

So is this like the S Line from Audi, or is it just a cosmetic package?

It’s just options for the regular 5 series range, it’s not the M5

Oops, miss read your post. It’s just cosmetic like what the previous model had.

ok, thanks for that. I just get confused with all this M packages, and then the actual M’s, and then the special edition packages. Either way, they are still the ultimate driving machines.

and it was a lot easier in the old days when the model numbers still corresponded to the engine size.
now most of them seem to be the same size with different levels of turbo boost

The discrepancies may have started during the late E36 and E39 days, when the 323i and 523i had 2.5-litre engines but reverted to 23 to match up with Mercedes’ C230 and E230, respectively. Now, the E90 323i is still 2.5 and the 325i uses a 3-litre.

The new 5 is really stunning. It will blow away the competition for sure now that it looks the business along with the renowned BMW performance and excitement. The rear, according to some, looks like a bloated 3 Series, but I have yet to see it in the flesh. Bimmers tend to look better if you look at the actual cars.
