Tata joins force with Jaguar to produce premium sedan

Tata Motors has announced it is developing a large premium sedan combining the technology and expertise of its Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) segment. Code-named the DR5, the sedan is a part of Tata's effort to tap into emerging markets like China and India. The company unveiled the Pininfarina-designed Prima concept car at last year's Geneva Show, and it's believed the larger DR5 will be just as impressive.

PM Telang, managing director, Tata Motors said in a recent press release, “We are trying to combine the synergies of both the companies. We have certain strengths in understanding the requirements of emerging markets and we also have cost competency. JLR, on the other hand, has the strength in product innovation and developing new-generation vehicles."

Telang also said that Tata Motors has always been developing the integration of JLR and Tata and says it's more about the combining of capabilities rather than the products and their components. As well as sharing the capabilities of each, Tata Motors is also hoping to setup assembly plants in India to produce some JLR cars.

Tata says it has just started development on the DR5, but it will be the size of an S-Class Mercedes-Benz and available for around $50,000 to $60,000 when it goes on sale some time in the next couple of years.
