Hyundai i30 CRDi scores wins in the Australian Rally Championship

After hard fought success in this year’s Targa Tasmania, Hyundai’s Genuine Parts & Accessories sponsored 1.6 litre i30 CRDi Team Hyundai Rallye car has notched up a string of wins in the latest round of the ARC championship in South Australia’s Barossa wine growing region.

Driver Mick Gillet and co-driver Harvey Smith drove consistently to record wins in the Showroom, Eco-Rally and P4 classes and in doing so, managed outright 2nd in the 2WD class.

Despite the early rain and deep ruts in the Mount Crawford stage, which was repeated four times, the robustness of the i30 meant that car was able to maintain speed in the slippery conditions.

It was the same story at Targa, the car was incredibly reliable despite being pushed to its limits and is a testament to the strength of what is essentially the same car you can buy in a Hyundai dealership, bar the race pads, roll cage, tyres and a limited ECU tune.

Throughout the entire South Australian stage, the team carried out only routine checks and there were no mechanical repairs required and no damage to the car.

The next round of the ARC is on the Sunshine Coast next month, which we will be following with interest.
