I'm a learner driver and have now done about 85 hours.

At first I didn't like the idea of having to do 100hrs and have my license for a whole year before I can go for my Ps. But I will admit, for once I think the QLD government actually did something right. My sister had the rules before me and my mum reckons she only did about 40 hours of driving in those six months because they didn't have to record them.

I feel I am a much more prepared and alert driver having done so many supervised hours and I think its a good idea though that they allow us to collect 10hrs as triple time (=30hrs) with a certified driving school.

The only thing that really annoys me is the restriction on what cars we can drive because my mum's car is an Audi A4 and I'm not allowed to drive that till I'm 25.

But all-in-all I like the new rules and so do my friends.

I hate these new laws so much too. I am a sixteen year old male with my learner's and I reckon there is only a certain amount of hours that we need to do until we are confident and skilled enough to drive in all aspects such as congested zones, highways, changing lanes etc. I have done 30 so far and it is really getting annoying when i have an other 70 hours. I reckon old people need laws as well as they cause a lot of accidents too. You see them (not all of them but many) constantly braking when it is not needed, pull out of streets slowly, drive slowly and drive everywhere with their blinkers on. So they should really stop blaming us young ones.

I believe they should make it that when you reach a certain age, maybe 60, then you need to retake a practical driving test (as well as medical test etc.) like I will have to when I am ready for my p's to see if they still drive in good manner. I am also particular annoyed that I won't be able to drive my modified Nissan SKyline 180SX because i have a turbo so I guess I'll have to keep my revs down near coppers. It won't matter anyways, they will pull me over regardless if I have a turbo or not because I'm driving that type of car. Its really quite sad, some little Getz could have some sort of turbo but yet they won't pull it over.
Anyways i have finished my rant ha ha. bye bye

what realy gets to me is that these charges for young drivers also affect other adults that where previously were not licenced , so we cop a log book too.

This is totally unnessary to a person in their 40s that need a driver licence, and has to complete everty thing that a 16 year has too.

And all the other states seem to be as strict as well

Just need to get licenced

Hey... these new rules are stupid... its forcing us p platers to drive more dangerous cars..put it this way its not how fast the car is its what it has safety wise.... Lancer ES:front wheel drive = loss of control in wet condition. specially on roundabouts...

lancer Evo:ALL WHEEL DRIVE = less chance of loosing control.

also most of the young kids that have died on our roads have been in holden commodores 6CYLINDER cars so wots the go with this non turbo business. its just rediculas...
its easy for the government in there company cars paying nothing for fuel telling us wots rite and wots wrong how about they just make the driving tests more strict and more advanced and stop telling us wots rite for a change. and drop the fuel prices while there at it.
were teenagers we are at the age where we want to have fun when we get married we are goin to hav a mortgage and not be able to drive that v8 or turbo. so please drop the new rules and let us live.

What gets me is that if these laws completely fail to reducee te road toll, are they going to get rid of them?
No probably not. Im pissed about the motorbike laws myself, riding a motorbike makes you an awesome car driver, because suddennly you have to start taking into account things like road surface and what other motorists are doing. What I would like to know is why QLD has to implement all these laws given that we only have like 115 or so people die in car accidents each year, how many people die from smoking? or drinking? and yet our healthcare system remains woefully inadequate. The laws need to be looked at by someone with the balls to say what needs to be done, rather then say what he thinks his boss wants to be done. Do you know that QLD transport says it takes 104m to pull up going at 90kph? I did i test on my motorbike the other day where i had a friend raise his hand up randomly and i would have to pull up, took me 49m. And its not like im on an awsome cafe racer either, its a 10 year old naked 250cc honda. The laws in this state are ridiculous.

Hi Belinda,

You could go on to the official government transport website which is located at http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/ and search their site out but apart from that I don't think I could be of much or better assistance to you, I fricken hate the new laws as well, they suck, I feel your pain, but good luck.

I am a 30yr old mum and have held my learners for a year during which time I saved every spare penny for a car, I have had well, well over 100 hours driving experience. My licence expired in august, I renewed it 2 weeks later I have found out that I now have to hold it for another year, how absurd! How much driving experience do I need? I am 30 and don't have a spare year of life to waste and I'm shore others don't either, I'm furious, these laws are affecting everyone in a negative way not just the young. I am now hoping I can apply for an exemption, does anyone know if I can? Or perhaps done this. Thanks.

The RTA should put more effort into fixing our roads... that's probably why people loose control of thier car.
They need to stop wasting our tax payers money for 'new rules' that are absoulte crap!!!!!!

Re P Plates,
I cannot believe the negative concerns re the new rules on P plates. Queensland drivers are fast becoming if not already the worst drivers. P Plates are there to help to protect these idiots on the roads, and I have only seen 1 p plate driver since july 1. Goes to show how arrogant these drivers are. not even displaying them. We came back from the gold coast on the M1 the other week, we were on the speed limit, but cars, trucks and 4 Wheel drives passed us as if we were standing still. If I ever see a accident and it involves a speeding driver that I have seen speeding, you can rot mate. It is about time Queensland drivers grew up. Just have a look at the accident every moring on our roads, because the idiots we have on the roads are in a hurry to get from a to b and sitting to close other words tailgating and they deserve all they get, but the thing is they involve innocent people, but they do not care. I bet they would care if it was their mother, father, brother or sister. Grow up Queensland. I am also interested in the speed limit for P platers.?

These laws have been enforced in NSW for a while now. For those of you who honestly think these laws are 'stupid' 'useless' 'dumb' or what ever else you want to call them are a little on the uneducated side of things. In NSW learners can only drive a maximum of 80km's EVER.. Red P's (first year provisional) can only drive a maximum of 90km's EVER... 2nd and 3rd year (green) p's can only drive a maximum of 100km's EVER. oh and they cant drive v6, v8, supercharged or turbos (excludes diesels). So you think having to log 100 hours, not being allowed to use a phone, cant drive a high performance or modified vehicle is bad HA I feel for those people who MUST drive at 80km's on a 110km road! And don't worry if you already have your license and a high performance or modified vehicle you can keep them, these laws only effect learners and Provisional licensees to be. These laws came into effect today regardless of what the 15, 16 and 17 year olds of QLD think. And you know why... you have to earn the right to drive

I'm sorry but just because you all think you are bullet proof and old enough to rule the world at 16, 17 and 18 means none of you really no about driving politics or life so you all really need to face reality and understand that these rules and regulations are for your own safety and even if it does only save one or two teens a year then I thank them so why don't you all think about the fact that many people out there have lost love ones from car/ road accidents and think about others and if you can't then your not mature enough to go for your licence.

Is there anyone out there that is gonna read all this that give a shit about what we are saying? It seams to me that there is not one person in government that listens to teens, and to think they want us to listen to them and do what they say, makes me sick. So unfair is all i can say. Would love to see a good fight against government from us teens. We should all protest.
