Gorman’s Indecision

It’s not often that you spot the president of a car company checking our their competitor’s product - at a motor show.

Ford’s Tom Gorman was spotted seeing what all the fuss was about at the Holden stand - in particular the new Holden Sportwagon. We’ll leave the conclusion up to you.

ZOMG! T3h fawd leadr is going 2 da drk syde! Oh nooeesss!!!1!1!!ELEVEN!111!!

-Good on him for checking out the competition…for all we know he’s comparing notes on the Orion Wagon…and thinkin “Hehehe…they have no idea what’s coming”

    (Report)

  2. watto_cobra Says:

Doesn’t surprise me. Pretend it’s full on war, what enemy commander wouldn’t want good intel on their opponent?

When it comes to cars, most companies come up with good ideas and the others either copy it, copy it but make it better, or go in a different direction. We can argue all day that this mob copied that (eg. VE headlights similar to BA) so now Ford may take some styling cues from VE wagon, or be just checking how their product in development compares.

If no one copied at all, we’d have thousands of absolutely unique vehicles, which just isn’t possible.

    (Report)

  3. smokin'R32 Says:

doubt it, i think you’ll be disappointed with the ford offering, highly doubt it will be as ambitious and design centric as the sportswagon

    (Report)

  4. watto_cobra Says:

Hmm, I wonder if the above made sense? Not sure why the article heading is “Gorman’s Indecision”, maybe “Gorman checks out the opposition” would suit the article better?

    (Report)

  5. Bavarian Missile Says:

I know what he is saying………hey this Sports wagon looks like the territory but dumped, maybe we should dump ours…mmmmm!

    (Report)

  6. Me. Says:

Yes it should be called “Tom Gorman checks out the opposition”.

    (Report)

  7. Me. Says:

Why does it have “compares” on the big TV screen, any thing to do with Tom Gorman’s visit there?

    (Report)

  8. Andrew M Says:

maybe they went to let tyres down and when they got there they realised that holden was no threat anyway. he he he

they sort of look like they are taking the piss though

    (Report)

  9. Richo Says:

i remember a couple of years ago Peter Henenberger, who was the Holden boss at the time, in a similar photo. He was actually sitting in a falcon though, one of the original AU’s, and he had a bit of a smirk on his face… he must have known how desperately unpopular the AU was going to be for ford!

    (Report)

  10. Toyota Paul Says:

Ummm I dont see a smirk though, I see some concerned men judging by their facial expressions.

    (Report)

  11. Andrew M Says:

    Paul,
the TRD is back on sale, i tried to post the link on the TRD page but it will take a while to be moderated. head over to the withdrawn article you might be able to access it

    (Report)

  12. Toyota Paul Says:

Yeah I already know mate… they have also reduced its redline as a precaution, although I dont think 300RPM is going to do much.

    (Report)

  13. Bavarian Missile Says:

So its over reved! What happened Paul to the previous I want to know? I would have thought Toyota would have done the tests as they are a great company! So they have stuck a rev limiter less 300rpm?

    (Report)

  14. Toyota Paul Says:

No they dont know the problem, could have just been a part failure I spose as all of the testing they have done, didnt find anything. The only reason why the are reducing the rev limit is because it was 300RPM higher then the standard Aurion, so to be on the safe side, they are reducing it. The whole thing was blown out of proportion I think because TRD wanted to save the brands reputation, at the end of the day it just looks like a one off.

    (Report)

  15. trackdaze Says:

Word bubble…..”MMM, “sport”wagon huh? looks like a wagon to me.

    (Report)

  16. Bavarian Missile Says:

One would think that they would have up graded the internals of a blown application? So why drop it back to a standard Aurion RPM? No grunt lost Paul? Oh blown out of proportion ,good wording ..hehehe

    (Report)

  17. Andrew M Says:

paul what i have read suggests they know a bit more than what they are telling the press. they are extremely tight lipped on the issue.
you cant tell me they dont even have the slightest idea what happened

    (Report)

  18. Bavarian Missile Says:

Hahaha,Trackdays……we should start a word bubble for it!

    (Report)

  19. Bavarian Missile Says:

YEP………I think we know Paul is too intelligent to believe what Toyota is feeding us .

    (Report)

  20. Me. Says:

God!! All this about Tom Gorman at the Holdenwoo show.
Well, he’s just having a look to see how the Orion can be better.

Bubbles saying… “YES, I’LL MAKE SURE THE FALCON WILL HAVE BETTER THIS, BETTER THAT THAN THIS UGLY (BLEEP)!”

    (Report)

  21. pr33toz Says:

hey its not like he’s seeing the car for the first time, theyve got insider info on everythin. hes prolli jus chekin it for fun

    (Report)

  22. John S Says:

his like going…right…throw me a fricken bone here…he actually looks more bored…i mean its a common-whore we’re talking about here!

    (Report)

  23. Toyota Paul Says:

I think they knew what it was… but I dont think its a major issue. They are just saving face by not revealing whatever it is I assume.

    (Report)

  24. ImportJap Says:

Anyone else tempted to add captions? :D

    (Report)

  25. Bavarian Missile Says:

    True ,so true Paul………

Captions? You had your Import jap?

    (Report)

  26. ImportJap Says:

    Sorry, I mean speech bubbles!

    (Report)

  28. Colonel Klink Says:

Body language says to me that the young guy and girl are thinking “Yeah nice, shivers well I’ll be…”. The girl with arms folded is already conceding defeat. Tom is non-commital and young guy in last photo is smirking thinking “Yeah ours is better…”.

    (Report)

  29. trackdaze Says:

Tom: “If it wasn’t for this imposibly tight knot in my 20 year old neck tie I might puke all over this poor excuse for a load lugger”

Other bloke: “I hear you Tom..me, I’m working up the mother of all air biscuits to render the holden stand uninhabitable for the remainder of the show”

    (Report)

  30. Colonel Klink Says:

Would say Tom is distant thinking of lunch judging his same position pretty much and big girth.

    (Report)

  31. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

    Hey Paul…
Check out the new mondeo…you might soon be driving one, it’s better than a camry!
What did i say about the camry being a below average package for a 4cyl car…

    (Report)

  32. Toyota Paul Says:

Klink interesting interpretation of their signals, I dont think its one of joy, more like ‘ah faaaark’.

As for Mondeo, I will check it out when I go to the motor show, still early to say its better… I also noted how the pics I saw from this site were only front on. I think the rear is a huge downer.

    (Report)

  33. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

    Paul…

It’s not too early at all. European reviews class the mondeo as good if not better than 4cyl BMW 3 series.
I’m looking at the intial stats…
    safer than camry…
    faster…
    more fuel efficient…
    more standard spec…
    6 speed auto…
Car advice only has frontal pics…i’ve seen some official press pics from Ford already, all you have to do is loom at the Ford web site:)
    diesel option…
    hatch option…
    better NVH…
    better dynamics…
and i have to say it certainly has more attactive styling elements overall than the camry.

    (Report)

  34. Toyota Paul Says:

Lol oh no, now we are gonna here this in the Mondeo commrecials - ‘better thea a BMW 3 series’. I will wait and see, it does look like an attractive option, but what it doesnt have is Toyotas bulletproof reliability. Toyota tends to target those who just want something to get form A to B, in which case things like acceleration and dynamics are irrelevant while reliability is very important.

    (Report)

  35. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

LOL…make fun all you like…doesn’t change reality.
Why wouldn’t it have bullet proof reliability? it’s sold in Europe in huge numbers…Toyota has the reputation, i’d say the mondeo can equal the camry for reliability…
remember, the 2.3 4cyl petrol is the same used in the mazda 6, diesels are peugoet/ford developed and 2.5 inline 5 has been used in volvos for years…
No reason why reliability wouldn’t match camry.

    (Report)

  36. Toyota Paul Says:

Balanced of probabiliy… Toyota and in particular the Camry has proven its reliabily over in excess of 20 years on the road. I dont think you can discount this fact. Meanwhile Fords such as the Focus, have returned the worst reliability survey results in their class.

    (Report)

  37. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

Focus has not returned the worst reliability in it’s class…turn it up! This is your opinion, nothing more or less.
I was talking about the mondeo, not focus for a start.
I also didn’t discount the fact camry has been reliable, and some camry models have had issues too.
Hard to admit i know Ford has released a car that is better than a camry…but it does have reliability! pity about the rest of the package.

    (Report)

  38. Cobra045 Says:

well I have had 2 camry’s as a company car in the last 8 years, and i currently drive a focus xr5.. you cannot even compare the 2!! One is a nanna’s car and the other is the focus

    (Report)

  39. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

hence i compared the camry and mondeo…2 competitiors…

    (Report)

  40. Bavarian Missile Says:

Hey Cobra did you check if car has left?

The XR5 have the Volvo engine in them don’t they?

    (Report)

  41. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

Yes the XR5 has the volvo sourced 2.5l turbo engine

    (Report)

  42. Cobra045 Says:

mondeo not comparable to camry either.. significantly different size, use and power/weight ratio..

dont know if car has left.. waiting for call from dealer

    (Report)

  43. Cobra045 Says:

I stand corrected.. was comparing wrong dimensions.. in fact the mondeo is same length but slightly wider than camry.. a lot more pwer than the 4 cyl comparable camry.. why would the xr5 turbo be 4 kW less power than the focus equivelent??

    (Report)

  44. Cobra045 Says:

    Bavarian.. you still here??

    (Report)

  45. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

Mondeo and camry are direct compeitiors…
So far the mondeo trounces the camry all measurable areas.
Not sure why there would be a 4KW difference, different tuning perhaps? see if the power and torque levels of mondeo are produced at the same revs levels as the focus?

    (Report)

  46. Bavarian Missile Says:

Yep not for long got to go to warehouse for half an hour!

    (Report)

  47. Cobra045 Says:

same torque.. (320).. focus kicks in at 1600 and flattens out at max.. no info yet on the mondeo other than stating in kicks in between 1750-2240 rpm

    (Report)

  48. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

Hmmm interesting…maybe Ford will explain the difference once the mondeo is fully lanched?
tThe only disappointment is why isn’t Ford using the updated 2.5l inline 4cyl as per Mazda and i’ve heard there is a new 2.2l turbo diesel in the works too.

    (Report)

  49. Colonel Klink Says:

Agree with Toyota Paul on what is going on with Tom and the other two. Body language is clearly evident on what both myself and Toyota Paul state.

    (Report)

  50. Cobra045 Says:

    Bavarian
can you email me when you are back?

    (Report)

  51. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

My god…talk about assumptions on body language! a few snaps were taken for a few seconds while they were talking and everybody is an expert on how they are feeling! lol
It’s almost like a womans day magazine all of a sudden:)

    (Report)

  52. Colonel Klink Says:

Gee whiz better to have some opinion then be going on with gibberish meanlingless waffle like most on here…. after all as the world doesnt revolve around your views (or mine) I took the liberty to comment as that is what this post is about and not comparing cars like you did earlier!

    (Report)

  53. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

Thats my point…there is NO point to this article!
‘Body language is clearly evident on what both myself and Toyota Paul state.’
Who cares what Tom is thinking! he could be feeling sick for all we know!
I compared cars because that what the discussion turned into, much more entertaining than looking at pics of execs and assuming what they ‘feel’ lol

    (Report)

  54. Cobra045 Says:

body language !! what a crock.. they could be talking about the upcoming federal election!! who knows unless you were actually standing there listening!! they canned the wagons once before because sales were dead due to all the new SUV’s, and the cost of a special production line for a wagon wasnt justified.. nothing has changed.. a new crummy door wagon wont change that!! new orion territory will be fords next step as a matter of course so no use speculating about anything else

    (Report)

  55. Colonel Klink Says:

Agree, in all fairness I only commented think 2-3 times on pics as no point as getting dead topic.

    (Report)

  56. Cobra045 Says:

    quite funny though!!!

    (Report)

  57. Colonel Klink Says:

Mate, honestly if you think they are talking about election then that is the funniest thing I ever heard! One does not need to listen to them to work it out! Being a Ford supporter, yes I admit the wagon looks classy and European! Compared to Falcon wagon if I was in market means choice is easy as one looks SIGNIFICANTLY better and classier then other and had to admit it I would plump for the Holden!

    (Report)

  58. Bavarian Missile Says:

    I am back

    (Report)

  59. Cobra045 Says:

wagon market is not there though.. SUV’s have killed it.. But I disagree about what you say in relation to “working out ” what they are saying. I wasnt there, you werent there, so neither of us know.. so pointless even talking about it.. leave gossiping to people who read new idea or watch desperate housewives!!

    (Report)

  60. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

The wagon market is not completely dead…Fords falcon wagon sales are not changed much since the territory came out. Fleet sales still drive wagons, i worked at a ford dealership in fleet and the wagon sales were amazing.
Holden is doing sporty, hence i think you will find no more if not less room in the VE wagon compared to VZ wagon, interesting to see what type of wagon Ford does with the orion falcon.

    (Report)

  61. Toyota Paul Says:

I think its interesting, you can tell alot by those pictures… just going to have to accept Andrew.M Ford may be worried about this Holden wagon.

    (Report)

  62. Colonel Klink Says:

    Agree with you Adam.

    (Report)

  63. Colonel Klink Says:

Ummmm not maybe Paul… is worried!

    (Report)

  64. Colonel Klink Says:

Being a Ford supporter and acknowledging all great cars and not one eyed… this Sportswagon looks really really bloddy nice. Too nice!

    (Report)

  65. Toyota Paul Says:

” wagon market is not there though.. SUV’s have killed it ”

The impression I got from the media is that this new Holden is a compromise between wagon and SUV… so it might actually be a good idea, might also explain why the Ford boss would be inspecting in person, and not seem overly happy about it.

    (Report)

  66. Bavarian Missile Says:

Can some one tell me ,this wagon must have its own chassis ? Then why does the Ute that use to have the same wagon chassis
now have the sedans? Surely they all can’t be built on the same platform!

Looks like some one has cut and shut it,Territory rear

    (Report)

  67. Colonel Klink Says:

Adam… knowing Ford based on events since AU of 1998, they are scared shitless to go away from its look across the board like it did back then with its not quite perfect look. The new Mondeo, the Fiesta and Focus still revisits that edgy look and Ford are in no mans land somewhat too scared to have new models and too silly to delete some of them. Looking at big Tom Gorman, I would be more concerned about truly ramping up look of Territory to bring it into line with current trendy looks and put LPG option in it, get off big backside and fastrack Verve, Kuga and sniff out what else is around as Holden will be leaving it behind more (based on Sportswagon look). Suggest that is why Orion whilst nice is not significant new look away from current model. The Orion wagon will not look too different from current model and that being said Ford must be worried as the Sportswagon is unreal looking! Ford needs to have revamped passion to climb back up and sell more cars and compete with Toyota one day as Tom you look stale running Ford as no model range increase and other then Mondeo what have you REALLY CHASED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    (Report)

  68. Colonel Klink Says:

Toyota Paul… only a few see what we see in pics. Not happy Jan = BIG TOM!

    (Report)

  69. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

    Paul…
Your the one who is worried! after the VEs release…i don’t think Tom Gorman is too worried, afterall VE didn’t trounce the BF11 for abilities!

    (Report)

  70. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

    Col K…

Ford did territory, holden failed and did jacked up commodore wagon called adventra and failed. BA overtook commodore for a better package, while mondeo is far better than epica.
Orion will have a similar look to BF11 like VE does to VZ and new camry does to old camry, they all bloody do!
Holden does cute ute for the flashy market, while Ford will do both, same will apply to the wagon market also.

    (Report)

  71. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

And remember this is the top of the line wagon, the base omega version will look considerably bland compared to this…wheel arches will be too flared on based models with 16inch wheels.

    (Report)

  72. Bavarian Missile Says:

GEEEZ guys do your wives ever get a word in?

Can someone PLEASE answer my question if you know ?

    (Report)

  73. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

    LOL What question?

    (Report)

  74. Bavarian Missile Says:

Can some one tell me ,this wagon must have its own chassis ? Then why does the Ute that use to have the same wagon chassis
now have the sedans? Surely they all can’t be built on the same platform!

    (Report)

  75. Colonel Klink Says:

LOL… Missile same could be said of all as all outspoken here so there you go!!!

I would hazard to say that two platforms, one being the base VE and other Wagon one (same as on current Statesman and Caprice).

    (Report)

  76. Colonel Klink Says:

OK. Maybe is same platform all round? Got me stumped as never really liked Holdenwoo Opel Vauxhall!

    (Report)

  77. Cobra045 Says:

can any one confirm the Cobra’s appearnace at the Sydney Motor Show?? colonel/adam/paul??

    (Report)

  78. Toyota Paul Says:

I havent been yet Cobra, I make take some pics when I do go, will have to see.

Adam… I dont know why I would be worried, Toyota are doing well… and I didnt see Toyota’s boss freaking out over the competition!!! LOL

    (Report)

  79. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

Ok, the VE wagon will use the exact same wheelbase and platform as the sedan, Holden chose not to go extended wheelbase for the VE wagon as it’s almost as big as the VZ long wheelbase. Also for a sportier appearance, otherwise the VE wagon might end up being too big, thats why im think the cargo space in the VE wagon will be the same, if not less then the VZ wagon.
The utes as far as i can remember uses a bigger wheelbase for extra cabin and tray space.

    (Report)

  80. Me. Says:

PAUL, WHY IS FORD’S BOSS FREAKING OUT AT HOLDEN? THATS WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE TO ME.
Hes checking out how he can make the Orion better.

    (Report)

  81. Bavarian Missile Says:

Yep I heard them talking about it but I didn’t see it? They had a Phase 3 though! So did your car leave after yesterday problems ?

Hey Klink me either ? I do like early Brock Commodores and A9Xs only cause we had one!

    (Report)

  82. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

    Paul…
Your assumption is that Tom ‘freaked’ as i said a couple of snaps taken in a few seconds of 2 people looking and talking does not make a concered, panicky Ford CEO!
    Get over it!
Ford has a class leader with mondeo over the camry…Toyota should be worried…but we all know mondeo won’t have the same level of fleet sales/rental and buyers will always flock to camry due to perception/assumptions!
Old habits are hard to break.

Cobra045 im in brissie, not Sydney! i’ll be going to the melbourne motor show tho! sorry.

    (Report)

  83. Me. Says:

I’ve never found Toyota part of Ford V Holden. PAUL, just because there is pics of Ford Australia’s president does not mean his “FREAKED” at the Holdens does it!!

    (Report)

  84. Bavarian Missile Says:

Another Queenslander…… So that makes Andrew M ,ME,Adam, and Alborz all in Brisbane!

    (Report)

  85. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

Oh, so Alborz is up here? didnt know that! well it is nice here…stormy atm tho:)

    (Report)

  86. Bavarian Missile Says:

Cool my account manager at AUSTRALIAN MUSCLE CAR MAG has just sent me 2 pics of the Cobra at the Sydney Show! I will send to you Andrew M and Andrew C cause I have their email addresses. Anyone else want to to see I will need yours too .

How did you go Andrew C getting a car ?

    (Report)

  87. Cobra045 Says:

Andrew C who I take is Blue Vein is actually a guy I know. He is away on site at the moment, but I beleive he has nad no luck in getting one

    devconst@bigpond.net.au thanks bavarian

    (Report)

  88. Cobra045 Says:

    www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-fpv-gt-cobra

try this one actually.. for some reason that didnt copy

    (Report)

  89. Cobra045 Says:

I am a bit disappointed that there is no “Cobra” decal on the boot!!

    (Report)

  90. Bavarian Missile Says:

Yep I think the stripe should go all the way along the side not stop, plus we are thinking of painting the rear and front bumpers all white so the stripes can go all the way over the front and back. Should have had blue inserts in the seats and the door sill strip should have said Cobra!

    (Report)

  91. Toyota Paul Says:

Me & Adam… Im just making observations, you show those pics to anyone and theyd say the same thing, judging by the title of this article it would seem the author was also under the same impression. They dont look like people merely checking out opposition, they looked slightly concerned with their facial expressions and arm movements.

    (Report)

  92. Bavarian Missile Says:

Thanks for the link ,thats better . Did you get my email ok?

New Motor is out too with a little bit in it on the car.

Those wheels are going to be a nightmare to keep clean! Better stock up on Auto Glym wheel cleaner.

    Why isn’t the bonnet lifted?

    (Report)

  93. Bavarian Missile Says:

Did you notice that the feet of the spoiler are carbon fibre?

    (Report)

  94. Bavarian Missile Says:

There is no snake either on the boot like the pic in Motor .That has a snake next too the GT badge, weird!

    (Report)

  95. watto_cobra Says:

I think that bloke with the red hair in the cobra pics is Mark Oastler. I wasn’t sad to see him stop commentating V8 Supercars.

You can hear some commentators “lean” a little to one side or the other, but every second sentence out of Oastler was “Skaife headlights on = MAXIMUM INTIMIDATION” and “Red Barons” and “TWR Umbrella”.

I got on my nerves after a year or two.

    (Report)

  96. Bavarian Missile Says:

Mark Oastler is ok ,I spoke to him once when he did an article on our car back in 1997,he was the editor of Street Machine then!

    (Report)

  97. watto_cobra Says:

Either he’s a bit more neutral now, or just having a squizz ??

    (Report)

  98. Adam [aka Mada] Says:

    Paul…
It doesn’t matter about the title of this article, anyone can make a title up, it’s called Media.
Some pics were taken, the article was made in order make it appear Tom Gorman was concered!
It worked, as your assumptions/reactions are evident of that.
I’ve taken pics of certain times, places and people and you can certainly made things appear differently than what they really are.
Tom simply went over to the Holden stand…and the rest is history.

    (Report)

  99. watto_cobra Says:

Yeah, he’s ok. I remember he came back to guest commentate the enduros a few years ago, he was pretty good then.

    (Report)

  100. Colonel Klink Says:

Iam with Toyota Paul and Me on this one, sorry guys but it is evident to any discerning person!

    (Report)

  101. Bavarian Missile Says:

    Klink is 100

    (Report)

  102. Ross Says:

Come on guys… surely you cannot say DEFINITIVELY that Gorman is worried??

He just looks analytical of the product he is observing… and that is to be expected!

Who knows, if the photo was taken 2 seconds later he might have been smiling?

No-one here can really say as we weren’t there with them!

    (Report)

  103. Ross Says:

IN FACT, in the first two photos it appears that Gorman is slightly smiling!

It is just that caradvice has enlarged the third picture (where is not smiling) and made it the centre-piece to gain everyone’s attention! Evidently it was successful given the number of replies to this topic. :)

    (Report)

  104. Me. Says:

Of couse Tom Gorman is not worried, hey PAUL.
Why would he be worried, arn’t they just chatting? And it looks like hes joking around too.
There’s a new Falcon comming out next year and a new Mondeo, hes saying “ha,ha can’t wate to see Danny Mooney’s face after the Orion comes out”.

Maybe he went there to try and find Danny Mooney and pick a fight with him? Thats why theres another offical looking man with him.

im totally with adam on the facial expressions.
never trust the media they are the kings of getting photos of people that suggest what ever they want.
photos they get of politicians are a great example. im not being biased but honestly just catch a bit of “Rove Live” sometime and you will see how innocent things people do can have totally different speech put to it and the facial expressions actually suit that as well

    paul,
so out of these 3 please tell me who got scared and chopped their wagon.
    Ford Falcon
    Toyota Camry
    Holden Commodore
thats enough said so you can crawl back into your “toyotas are sooooo great” hole now

    oh and toyotas bulletproof????? WTF
no way dont get me started on problems i know with camry’s

Kelly says Lowndes ‘lucky’ to win

October 12, 2007 HOLDEN star Todd Kelly last night lit the fuse for an explosive V8 encounter on the Gold Coast when he declared Ford driver Craig Lowndes was lucky to win the Bathurst 1000 and should not have even finished the race.

The 28-year-old said Lowndes was lucky to survive three near collisions before declaring Holden drivers would be out for revenge at next week’s Supercar Challenge following Ford’s domination at the mountain.

“Lowndesy got especially lucky at Bathurst,” said Kelly. “He shouldn’t have finished that race and he ended up winning it. (Mark) Winterbottom went through the chase and almost collected him and he was nearly taken out at the same spot a bit later on.

“Jamie (Whincup) also ended up in the sandpit but somehow they came through and went on to win. But that’s motor racing.”

Kelly admitted Holden drivers had a point to prove heading into Indy week after Ford took out the Bathurst trifecta.

The Tasman Motorsport team was the best placed of the Holdens, finishing in fourth spot.

“It’s not just the fans who are disappointed,” said Kelly.

“A lot of the Holden drivers are too. There is not really much we can do. There is no point sitting down and debriefing over it. We just put it to bed really quickly and began our preparations for Indy.”

Kelly is hopeful of back-to-back wins on the Gold Coast and predicted Holden would regroup after last week’s disappointment.

“The new VE will be much more suited to a place like Indy,” Kelly said.

“We really struggled in a few areas with the new car at Bathurst and we have gone quite well at Indy in the past.

“I have had a few poles there and won a couple of rounds. It’s one of the places that really suits our car. I think we can really turn it around from Bathurst.”

Fellow Holden driver Mark Skaife took some consolation out of his Bathurst non-finish, revealing his Commodore suffered minor damage.

“We were pioneers when it got wet on the mountain and it was the end for four of us in the top 10,” Skaife said.

“But that’s what can happen at Bathurst,” lamented Skaife.

Thought you would all like that!!!!!!!!!Cheers Lisa

  112. Bavarian Missile Says:

Hey no one knows what the hell they were saying……. I for one don’t think Ford are worried over one wagon ! They clearly didn’t get any of them discussing any of the other cars on the Holden stand because the media knew the hype this photo would bring on speculation! What you don’t think Holden went on Fords stand come on!!!!! It the first thing we do when we go to a trade event is to see what the opposition has copied of ours! Trust me your reading more into this than there is!

  117. Colonel Klink Says:

Thanx Missile. Top read and it does not suprise me!!!!

Gee crikey; mate they are deadset gooses at Holden who drive them with that drip Todd Kelly commenting what he did. Thanks god Lowndes and the Enforcer seen the light with Ambrose leaving the roost and stuck it up these ego driven wallies and got back backbone again. Kelly, what a load of crock! I would of expected it from Mark “I have a thumping huge giant nose and ego to match as I want to race Bathurst all 161 laps myself as Iam arrogant” Skaife, or Rick “Fag boy” Kelly (footnote: Grant Denyer on the Friday Sunrise show at around 7.50am did a Borat impersonation and went up to Rick Kelly and did his number and Rick truly said words to this effect “Your a pretty boy yeah”), etc. Amazing Murph has not iginited things! Then we have Todd “Please Skaifey let me drive at Bathurst as you want to not let me drive at all as your ego is bigger then Holden or your nose” Kelly opening his claptrap. HOLDEN DRIVERS ARE SAME AS ALWAYS! = Dills

What gets me Craig is too much of a gentleman to have come back…..now Ambrose would have! I miss God!

Ok Russell your not going to win the Championship so punt as many Holden drivers off as you can…..you can keep up with the front runners! Don’t Ford have a meeting beforehand on strategy? Here it is all Ford drivers block Holdens and punt the leaders off . Worked for Holden last year!

Now correct me if Iam wrong about Mr Bradbury. He won a Gold medal first time ever at Winter Olympics (he was the one that crossed the finish line on last corner of going around a circular track when the then 1st, 2nd and 3rd had a spill and Mr Bradbury crossed the line going past these 3 fallen people to win with hands on his head in disbelief) by default and that is his claim to fame. Maybe he can drive for Holden as they could do with a SUPERSTAR…. LOL

  145. watto_cobra Says:

Viva is the Lanos, is it? OK, does anyone know it’s NCAP rating? Would like to know because my sister-in-law is shopping for a new car, and Viva was on the possible list. I showed her that newspaper article about the Wodonga woman who died, and she crossed it off.

The situation may have been such that a fatality was possible in the best safety car, but no point taking a risk on a car with poor safety.

That’s why I’d like to know what rating it got.

Yeah, someone flamed Toyota_Paul pretty harshly. It read like someone just pissed off, but I think maybe there were a few nuggets of truth in there.

The looks sure are looks of fear as its too late for Ford to do any design changes for the Orion. They may do a few minor cosmetic changes but the structure will be the same. This is one amazingly good looking wagon with the European style which was previously only seen on Mercs, Beemas, Audi and VW. The Chrysler 300C touring has incorporated it and Holden have perfected it. This is Fords nightmare, only have to look at AU to see ford have no idea about style.

Falcon will not only overtake VE once again (VE only just passed Flacon on dynamics after 10 years of failing with Opel platform) but it’ll look a lot better while it’s doing it.

AU, an aquired taste. Commodore has made heaps of crap looking models along the way too. Gorman is just sratching his head thinking, “what happened to the cargo space?”

Face it idiot, if there weren’t so many morons like you accepting an inferior product, Ford would be ahead in the sales war over Holden. 300C is typical overweight ugly yank shit. Why did they even bother putting windows in the back doors, they are barely the size of the old quarter windows.
