2011 Porsche Panamera V8 model range more efficient

While the Porsche Panamera V6 models are still yet to make their showroom debut in the Australian market, Porsche has today unveiled the new eight-cylinder Panamera range with improved efficiency and new options.

In the pursuit of better economy on its flagship V8 models, the next model year Porsche Panamera incorporates a new brake energy recuperation system featured as standard, together with optional 19-inch all-season tyres offering reduced roll resistance.

With these enhancements, the Porsche Panamera Turbo now boasts a 0.9 l/100km improvement in fuel consumption, consuming just 11.3 litres instead of the previous 12.2 l/100km while still producing 373kW.

The brake energy recuperation system accounts for 0.7 l/100km of the overall improvement by minimising the load acting on the engine through the alternator, with the battery now charged during braking and in overrun.

The optional all-season tyres contribute the remaining 0.2 l/100km saving on each model in the Porsche Panamera range by employing a special rubber compound to reduce roll resistance while at the same time increasing the life of the tyres.

The Porsche Panamera S and Porsche Panamera 4S have also benefit from these changes, consuming just 10.3 l/100km and 10.6 l/100km respectively in the New European Driving Cycle while CO2 emissions have dropped by 11 grams/km.

Both Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) systems are now available as an option, further enhancing the driving characteristics of the Panamera.

The PTV Plus system allows the Porsche Panamera to generate additional rotational force through a corner by applying the inside brake on the rear wheel to complement the steering forces while at the same time improving traction on the rear wheels when accelerating out of a bend.

Porsche is also extending the range of paintwork colours, leather options and special equipment for the Panamera including features such as auxiliary heating and a three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles.
