Austin Healy 3000 Mk II Sebring 12-Hour

Sotheby’s Australia has sold the ex-Paddy Hopkirk 1963 Works Austin Healey 3000 Mk II, which raced in the Sebring 12-Hour event to an undisclosed buyer by Private Treaty.

For those readers unfamiliar with the Belfast born Rally driver, he won the legendary Monte Carlo Rally with Henry Liddon in a Mini Cooper S.

He also competed at Mount Panorama in the Armstrong 500 in a BMC Works Morris Cooper S in 1965, placing 3rd in class (standard production) with Timo Makinen of Finland.

For those that missed out, Sotheby’s has another rare treat for collectors with a 1936 Lanchester Straight-Eight drop head coupe by coachbuilder Vanden Plas.

Sadly, the Lanchester Motor Company was merged with Daimler when the bank called in the £38,000 overdraft, and by 1955 the brand was all but defunct.

This is the only Straight-Eight drop head coupe ever built after it was commissioned by the nephew the of the famous Indian/English cricketer, “Ranji”.
