2012 Morgan EvaGT sketch teased before August debut
British sports car manufacturer Morgan has released the first side-on sketch of its upcoming Morgan EvaGT four-seater coupe ahead of its official unveiling at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California on August 15.
Morgan says the EvaGT will draw inspiration from British sports saloons of the past like the Bristol 400 series and the Frazer Nash BMW 328.
But while the styling will give a nod to the past, Morgan says the engineering will meet all the demands of the modern sports car owner.
Early data suggests the rear-wheel drive EvaGT will be powered by a BMW-sourced direct-injection 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six with 228kW and 400Nm of torque.
The bonded aluminium chassis is a further-developed version of the one underpinning the current Morgan Aero SuperSports, and combined with aluminium body panelling total curb weight is expected to peak at no more than 1250kg.
The low weight means the Euro VI-compliant EvaGT – equipped with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission – will sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds and hit 273km/h flat out, while fuel economy also benefits with combined cycle estimates of 7.06 litres/100km.
Morgan – famous for assembling all its vehicles by hand – says computer technology will be used in the design and manufacturing stages, but insists that the parts will be finished personally for a “perfect A-class surface”. Expect minimal shut lines, flush door handles, hidden wipers and sharp creases in the final styling.
Morgan plans to take orders worldwide for the EvaGT, with the first 100 vehicles of a limited run set to go into production by mid-2012.
