2011 Volkswagen Passat touring wagon spied

By George Skentzos |

The new generation Volkswagen Passat family seems to be coming along nicely with the touring variant spied undergoing durability testing recently in the European mountains.

Judging by the amount of sag at the rear it seems this Volkswagen Passat development prototype was hauling quite a heavy load under relatively extreme conditions in the cold, high-altitude environments.

As with the sedan variant which we snapped earlier last month, the new Volkswagen Passat Touring Wagon will receive the new VW family face, similar to the new Golf and recently revealed Polo.

It is also expected to borrow equipment and design cues from the sleek Volkswagen Passat CC to improve the overall quality of the new generation Passat package.

umm doesnt the name touring Wagon sound a bit redundant?

      Indeed it does!

Just helps us cover all bases if someone wants to search for the model later on. :)

Understood. but the official name will probably be more like the Passat Touring, or Passat Wagon, right?

        • http://www.caradvice.com.au George Skentzos

Correct. :) But until we know for sure this is the best practice for the sake of search.

Touring Wagon? Who buys those? ;)

Ask all the Commodore Sportwagon owners.

I’d like to think wagons are enjoying something of a renaissance at the moment, with the softroader option being diluted to the point where a wagon simply makes more sense in terms of space and drivebility (I mean 2WD RAV4?? C’mon!!!!??). Also the aesthetics are simply better as well when compared with some of the European softroaders being rushed to the market (Tiguan, and the Peugeot and Renault rehash of the Outlander).

Here’s hoping the diesel option will now be the twin turbo available as an option in the Caravelle. I also hope it will be offered with AWD.
If you permit me to dream, I’d actually like to have the 3L V6 diesel from their Audi cousins with the AWD.

Everything seems to point towards VW dropping the 3.6 V6 in favour of a turbo 4 or 5 pot in the R36.
I guess it’s off to another manufacturer for me when the lease is up.
