Bet you won’t see many off road, Hummer is king of the offroad. Just wait till the diesel and V8 models hit our shores. Oh Blinky, Holdens answer is the Hummer and the Jackeroo is a damn great vehicle on and off road. I currently still have one as my offroad vehicle until my order of the Hummer H3 is delivered.

HUMMER – King of the off-road. You have got to be kidding me.

Not only would the Prado outdo the Hummer, but a 4.5 V8 Turbo charged ‘70 series diesel would kill it. That said, the new 200 series Cruiser come with a 650nm twin turbo charged 4.5 V8 diesel so stop with the laughs.

And the Jackaroo was never more then just a wonna-be at it’s very best. You really are a clown trying to blow credentials up the arse of a Jackaroo. You have seriuosly gotta be pulling my leg.

The specs for the turbo diesel are as good as it gets but boy the new styling sucks. Front of the car is too bulky and rear is too narrow at top – a little like the early Rav4s that looked unbalanced from behind.

Toyota have really done themselves a disservice with this one – brilliant mechanicals and awful asthetics. You would think nthey would know better by now.

Guess I’ll buy a landrover after all.

WANTING a tough,strong,proven reliable and powerful 4WD with reasonable fuel economy that would be the Toyota LandCruiser “KING OF THE ROAD – BLOODY AWSOME”
People mover as i have 6 in the family live on farm tow horse floats,trailers ect.
Frosty talking out his arse: sure hummer great if your in combat area but getting 6 in there with room to move and then thinking of heading off rd you shall required portable fuel trailer on the back.

Want a fairdinkum real 4WD with standard long travel suspension (that is not on Cruiser) and doesnt skip over everything like with the Cruiser, well get the real deal and get a Landrover Discovery! As if you go in real rough stuff it is better to have every wheel all over the place touching terra firma and the bigger the obstacles the more the chasm is between serious 4WD in Discovery VERSUS the pretend short travel suspension Cruiser! Talk to people who do serious 4WD and not have optioned up to the hilt extras on there 4WD (like with Cruisers).

Have had two cruisers now and with 4 kids and a property to get around would not buy anything else..Love my latest Sahara but am trading up to a new 200.Call me soft but I love the fitouts on the saharas. Try and option up an equivalent vehicle and see how much it costs you. The standard equipment levels are stunning..you can keep your lexus

to those who think the cruiser has great fule ecconomy, you have never driven a Patrol…. In my “small 3l turbo” i get 1400 km for 120l. My old 100 Cruiser would only get 800km to a 160l tank.. The F-trucks with the 7.3L crap all over the toyota as well. anyone who has done any proper long distance 4wding will agree.
Nissan all the way..

P.S styling of the new 200 looks disgusting.. what a joke, they should be ashamed!!!!

never heard so much crap in my life . As to how they look (shocking) i,m pretty sure none of you,s would knock one back for free . As for a nissan getting 1400k,s out of a tank (120 litre tank ) read ya manual there not 120 litre,s ya noob i know i have one and theres not a hope in hell you,ll get 1400k,s totally dreamin Mrs Daisy.

As having had toyota,s (60&80s)and hilux,s the nissan patrol is a good tow wagon as thats all it does for me but build quality is nowhere near a toyota and resale give me a toyota any day

mates turbo diesel middy is a wheezing asthmatic bucket-of-you-know-what. My naturally aspirated Maverick (ie. Patrol) flogs him. you can just see his disappointment because he spent double on his and most of the time i have to snatch him out or wait for him to catch up…. and wait…. and wait….

I had 2 cruisers, i used to swear by them, both cost me a fortune in repairs. will never touch another toybota. (they make good anchors, just see J.Clarkson’s “toybota” on top gear)

Guys – the looks are subjective. The comments regarding fuel capacity and range are pure fiction. Perhaps achieved on the back of a recovery truck? No standard Cruiser carries the fuel capacity mentioned either.
Here in the Middle East both Patrols and Cruisers are popular. If you have the capital you buy the Cruiser, otherwise its the Patrol. As for ongoing costs, the Cruiser is far cheaper to run and maintain. The off-roading here is pretty harsh, often 50+ deg C in the summer desert and really soft sand – the differance is the driver, just don’t buy a Discovery/LR3!!

Typical Toyota..overpriced and more importantly over-rated. There are only Toyotas on minesites because the government has a deal with them..read between the lines..its an old boys club. There seems to be some sort of cult following with this manufacturer. People are brainwashed that when they buy one they have to continue buying them..why i dont know. i joined the foray once never to return..my main reason, the arrogance of toyotas dealers..and believe me its common amongst all of them whether its sales or service. oh and another thing, ive never seen (even close) the economy figures toyota Aust. put out for their offroaders..how can a near 3 tonne full time 4×4 with a twin turbo v8 diesel even get close to an average 10.3L/100kms..their lies were proven in the new 70 series..no wonder sales up in the country, all the sheep are buying them!

My 2003 turbo diesel auto wagon gets 1100-1200km out of two tanks. If driven at only 100k/hr it would probably get a bit more. There might be hope in Toyotas claims for the new wagons.

What planet are you from Troy, I work for a Mine Company that run a fleet of Toyota’s, and I can tell you we don’t have any deal with the government (what a load of crap).
Toyota’s have proven to be the only reliable 4wd on the market, and yes we have trialed other brands, as far as mine sites go, if you want a good reliable workhorse, get the Cruiser, the others spend too much time in the workshop costing downtime that no business cannot afford.

Here in South Africa Landcruisers are the name that stands out a mile.Across the whole country the resale is at a premium and having had 5 (3 prados,2 100 series and the pick up) I cannot say i have had a single problem.Cost wise they are heavy here, but i agree with some of the comments that the back is a bit odd at the top end and the front too much like the 100. They could have done a better job on the design….too similar. Mechanics wise , i guess it will be tops: Again!

Kev..i obviously struck a nerve with you pal..i dont favour any brand in particular, i just dont like Toyota. I dont care how reliable some people think they are they still break down like any other make, but above all theyre still over priced..see carsales.com.au… 2007 Troop Carrier $75k plus on roads..sure its got a powerful engine and a great chassis, but we are talkin 90k for something that has 70’s style interior..And 85k plus onroads for this ‘plain jane’200 series GXL…give me a FU#@IN break!

re fuel economy on 200 TDV8 and 100 TD6 i have travelled a lot of K`s towing a 23 ft full van speeds around 95 to 100 kph average 6.2 klm to a litre about the same as my 2004 TD prado did towing a 16 ft poptop with shower and toilet so i`m sure a couple of the blokes who made comments about economy must have been talking petrol. as for Nissan diesel i`ve had 2 diesels manual and got fed up with wheel wobble and blackening my van with soot. to each his own

I currently own a 2002 GXL Turbo Manual (yes, manual, I still have the use of my left leg!) and I love it for general driving and towing here in the bush. I just changed the two original batteries after over 5 yrs.

The 200 looks like it was designed for the north shore of Sydney – only auto transmission, yuk!! I will be running my 100 series for a good while yet.

Just brought a 200 series TDV8, had 2 previous 100 series and last car was 3.2 Diesel Pajero, 10.3L is bullshit, only on my second tank (138L) and can only get about 15L/100km even with best behavour, but dont care exceptional build quality,exceptional power and cheaper than a Disco 3 that would be back at the dealer every week. After 3 Landcruiser never had a warranty claim, 1 recall though. VX grade in NZ $101K NZ peso’s Might be auto only but 6 gears and over 200kph

Just thought i`d comment on the fuel usage on the 200 v8 twin turbo I have just returned from a 2000k trip towing a 23 ft full jayco van my 200 has just clicked over6000ks so not run in yet towing at 95/100 kph average speed over the last 830ks was 86.5kph fuel usage was 17.1 to 18.1 lts per 100 ks worst was with very strong head winds was 20 lts luckily this was only for the first 358 ks of the trip, without van 11/12 lts per 100ks so I hope this will help those looking to buy the best tow vehicle on the road..

Who said Hummer is great – it just big, as all American cars. Big, thirsty, poorly done. If one have to replace fillings in his teeth, use American cars. On or off road – does not matter. They all are equally bad. I have had Explorers, Durango\’s, Hummers and other American crap, before I experienced Land Cruiser. There is no comparison. If you drive American car out of dealership in Europe the next day it costs only 50% of the original price, but in order to get this price you have to wait stupid enough customer for years.

Once more, I have had also two Nissan Patrols (2,8 l 6 and 3,0 l 4). The economy is great, durability unbeatable, dynamic – poor. If a person wants to drive a truck – Nissan is OK, and much cheaper.

I work at cmi toyota, so here are some thoughts on the 200. yes, it’d be a great tower, heck, they drag off commodores. I wouldn’t be surprised at the 18l per 100km towing a 23ft van. seems to me though that 12l per 100km is pretty good for a 3t car. those lights do look like they are designed to get broken. the inside is very plush, which okay unless you actually want to do some 4wd driving, but then having comfy seats is a plus on bad terrain. the ground clearance could be better. great 4wd, but looks like it’s made for a businessman. all I ask is, what happened to the good old take anywhere landcruiser.
