The specs for the turbo diesel are as good as it gets but boy the new styling sucks. Front of the car is too bulky and rear is too narrow at top – a little like the early Rav4s that looked unbalanced from behind.

Toyota have really done themselves a disservice with this one – brilliant mechanicals and awful asthetics. You would think nthey would know better by now.

Guess I’ll buy a landrover after all.

Want a fairdinkum real 4WD with standard long travel suspension (that is not on Cruiser) and doesnt skip over everything like with the Cruiser, well get the real deal and get a Landrover Discovery! As if you go in real rough stuff it is better to have every wheel all over the place touching terra firma and the bigger the obstacles the more the chasm is between serious 4WD in Discovery VERSUS the pretend short travel suspension Cruiser! Talk to people who do serious 4WD and not have optioned up to the hilt extras on there 4WD (like with Cruisers).

Have had two cruisers now and with 4 kids and a property to get around would not buy anything else..Love my latest Sahara but am trading up to a new 200.Call me soft but I love the fitouts on the saharas. Try and option up an equivalent vehicle and see how much it costs you. The standard equipment levels are stunning..you can keep your lexus

to those who think the cruiser has great fule ecconomy, you have never driven a Patrol…. In my “small 3l turbo” i get 1400 km for 120l. My old 100 Cruiser would only get 800km to a 160l tank.. The F-trucks with the 7.3L crap all over the toyota as well. anyone who has done any proper long distance 4wding will agree.

As having had toyota,s (60&80s)and hilux,s the nissan patrol is a good tow wagon as thats all it does for me but build quality is nowhere near a toyota and resale give me a toyota any day

Typical Toyota..overpriced and more importantly over-rated. There are only Toyotas on minesites because the government has a deal with them..read between the lines..its an old boys club. There seems to be some sort of cult following with this manufacturer. People are brainwashed that when they buy one they have to continue buying them..why i dont know. i joined the foray once never to return..my main reason, the arrogance of toyotas dealers..and believe me its common amongst all of them whether its sales or service. oh and another thing, ive never seen (even close) the economy figures toyota Aust. put out for their offroaders..how can a near 3 tonne full time 4×4 with a twin turbo v8 diesel even get close to an average 10.3L/100kms..their lies were proven in the new 70 series..no wonder sales up in the country, all the sheep are buying them!

Toyota are on mines sites cause they last! Mining companies have tried other 4WDs and they are not as reliable,sorry but true! Down time is big money in the mining industry they demand reliability .

What planet are you from Troy, I work for a Mine Company that run a fleet of Toyota’s, and I can tell you we don’t have any deal with the government (what a load of crap).
Toyota’s have proven to be the only reliable 4wd on the market, and yes we have trialed other brands, as far as mine sites go, if you want a good reliable workhorse, get the Cruiser, the others spend too much time in the workshop costing downtime that no business cannot afford.

I dont care how reliable some people think they are they still break down like any other make, but above all theyre still over priced..see carsales.com.au… 2007 Troop Carrier $75k plus on roads..sure its got a powerful engine and a great chassis, but we are talkin 90k for something that has 70′s style interior..And 85k plus onroads for this ‘plain jane’200 series GXL…give me a FU#@IN break!

I currently own a 2002 GXL Turbo Manual (yes, manual, I still have the use of my left leg!) and I love it for general driving and towing here in the bush. I just changed the two original batteries after over 5 yrs.

The 200 looks like it was designed for the north shore of Sydney – only auto transmission, yuk!! I will be running my 100 series for a good while yet.

Just thought i`d comment on the fuel usage on the 200 v8 twin turbo I have just returned from a 2000k trip towing a 23 ft full jayco van my 200 has just clicked over6000ks so not run in yet towing at 95/100 kph average speed over the last 830ks was 86.5kph fuel usage was 17.1 to 18.1 lts per 100 ks worst was with very strong head winds was 20 lts luckily this was only for the first 358 ks of the trip, without van 11/12 lts per 100ks so I hope this will help those looking to buy the best tow vehicle on the road..

Who said Hummer is great – it just big, as all American cars. Big, thirsty, poorly done. If one have to replace fillings in his teeth, use American cars. On or off road – does not matter. They all are equally bad. I have had Explorers, Durango\’s, Hummers and other American crap, before I experienced Land Cruiser. There is no comparison. If you drive American car out of dealership in Europe the next day it costs only 50% of the original price, but in order to get this price you have to wait stupid enough customer for years.

Once more, I have had also two Nissan Patrols (2,8 l 6 and 3,0 l 4). The economy is great, durability unbeatable, dynamic – poor. If a person wants to drive a truck – Nissan is OK, and much cheaper.
