Ferrari 458 Italia local pricing and specifications announced

By George Skentzos |

The very first example of the new Ferrari 458 Italia destined for Australian buyers has landed in Brisbane this week for the supercar’s official local debut, flown in especially from Ferrari’s production facility in Italy.

Described by Ferrari as the fastest production Ferrari the company has ever produced – even eclipsing the previous Ferrari 430 Scuderia – Australian deliveries of the Ferrari 458 Italia have started sooner than planned due to unprecedented demand.

Each new owned of the Ferrari 458 Italia has met the $526,950 price tag at bare minimum – before and options or on road costs have been applied – with Ferrari expecting to sell between 50 to 60 examples of its finest supercar in Australia each year.

“Australian deliveries have started a little earlier than planned because the interest in this remarkable car has been so great that the car has been air freighted to Australia,” explains Kevin Wall, General Manager for Ferrari in Australia and New Zealand.

“Even before it was announced we have had Australian clients expressing interest in the 458 Italia and, once its specification was announced, revealing it to be, even by Ferrari standards, a technical tour de force, interest has climbed dramatically and shows no sign of slowing.”

Replacing the Ferrari F430, the new Ferrari 458 Italia boasts a mid-rear mounted 4.5-litre V8 engine punching out 419kW and 540Nm at 9,000rpm combined with a seven-speed F1 dual-clutch transmission.

With a dry weight of only 1,380kg the Ferrari 458 Italia boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 2.42kg per kW – rocketing from zero to 100km/h in under 3.4 seconds and on to a maximum velocity of 325km/h.

Ferrari clients may also opt to take advantage of the Carrozzeria Scaglietti Programme which allows virtually limitless personalisation of their car to suit their own tastes and requirements which is divided into four main areas – Racing and Track, Exterior and Colours, Interior and Materials, Equipment and Travel.

will ferrari even let you sit in it? i went to nissan and they wouldn’t even let me sit in the gt-r. the lady said they don’t even let her sit in there

    • Vince

I pretty much drooled all over one inside and out in Japan. She practically pushed me into the car and closed the doors and said go for it. I almost started it right there and then in the Subway station haha. It’s a car…people are so high and mighty about it here.

    • deb

Find another Nissan dealer…how can they expect to sell cars without letting people in them?? Waaayyy too precious, that..! I bought a 350z last year, and was able to test drive it ALONE!!

      • capone

I wouldn’t want to sit in a GT-R even if they paid me. The GT-R is FUGLY

  • Taka

That engine is astonishing. It beats the LFA 4.8ltr V10 @412kw vs 4.5ltr V8 @419kw. How did they do it!

    • The Other Brad

Because it’s Lexus’s first sports car and Ferrari’s squillionth?

    • ElecEng

Also because Lexus will “keep going” when the Ferrari breaks down.

      • Mitch

Ferrai also makes 60nm more torque and its 100kg lighter

I do love the 458 but I think two Audi RS6′s are fine with me. They’re as close you can get to 458 in a practical saloon/wagon. Plus, they have seven more kWs! That really IS a s**tload of power!

    • Labrys

This may be true but the you can not compare the RS6 to the 458 when it comes to looks.
      The 458 is stunigly beautiful.

    • f1worldchamp

Except the RS6 weighs almost 2 tonnes.

      • PN

        as much as i love audi, you can’t compare a RS6 to a 458.

One is a sedan/wagon, and the other is a supercar!

you could however compare this to the R8 GT

‘Described by Ferrari as the fastest production Ferrari the company has ever produced’

Ah, didn’t they say that about the 599 GTO, not the 458?

  • http://www.caradvice.com.au George

That confused me also. The 458 Italia is the fastest ‘production’ model whereas the ‘limited production’ 599 GTO is the fastest ‘road-going’ model. Its a fine line but Ferrari is running with it.

    9000rpm, 419kw

    1380kg

    0-100: 3.4sec

Imagine what the Scuderia style version will be like!!!

  • Jonty

The best looking ferrari in years, and with that performance very tempting if you have the money.

  • HJP

Looks great in modern era we live in but it still cannot be better looking than classic Ferraris.

  • Pap

as i will never b as good driver as Senna, toyota will never become like FERRARI!!!
    What r u comparing mate????????????
    Italian beauty 4ever!!

    • Lukaas

Toyota can one day decide to buy big shares in Ferrari or buy out Fiat and you’d eat your words.

And time… its all that is needed.

Toyota dont make supercars until recently.

You should be glad they made affordable sports cars that even you could afford… assuming you aint a millionaire of some sort of course.

The LFA is technically Toyota’s first super car for production.

The Supra is a legend in its own field but supercar it isnt…. make no mistake though, Toyota and almost all manufacturers CAN make supercars that can rival the cars Ferrari make… but you need purpose and market… and no… “for the sake of it” isnt good enough.

  • Lukaas

    Truth be told

How many people here can actually say they can afford this and any news about it they can relate to.

Still we all can dream.. so might as well dream big too hehe, gimme the 599 GT!!!
