I’m curious because I know very little about the V8 Brutes (are they still called that). Never seem to get coverage on them here.

Seemed fairly even, but I think Falcon won most championships?? If so, not bad for leaf springs.

To my memory, they’re basically road utes with roll cage, etc and for parity instead of adding ballast they adjust the rev limit. Correct?

If so, which one get hobbled? I suspect maybe the Falcon, but when they go to VE, I’d guess it’d be the Commodore. Can someone fill me in a bit?

  2. Andrew M says:

    yeah watto,
they are the closest to production Holden V Ford racing you will see
i saw them this year when they followed the V8’s to my local track.
you usually can get it on telly though maybe you need to look a bit harder. there should be a schedule on their website id reckon.

id have to look up most championship wins but from memory of what ive seen over the years id reckon you are right in saying ford has won more

did you know that grant denyer used to race a brute?
they all have nicknames too and he was “mad dog denyer”

Fug U Mr Maloo I’m may be blind but I still hate to see U sorry but this Holdenwoo Maloooo will need a makeover ASAP, let’s start with some silicon in the bonnet area where we need some bulge..

  4. Guido UK Boy says:

Wish we could have some decent styled utes in the UK. All the builders drive here are Hilux’s and Nissan Navaras. Why do you need a 4WD on the road to carry a few bags of cement. Wa%*kers.

Come on GM import this to the UK slap a big diesel in it and will sell like hot-cakes.

  5. Me. says:

    UK Boy,
I won’t be suprised if the Holden ute is exported to the UK as an Opel or Vauxal, but the Maloo model is unlikley.

P.S… England will be out of the Rugby World cup in no time!!

  6. Me. says:

Sorry to bring football in to this. Way off topic, I don’t care about Rugby World Cup, I’m into Motor Sport, I mean V8 supercars.

  7. Barry says:

    impact

to each there own…if you want a ute for work then there are heaps out there that will do the job. what normal person would by a Maloo to cart there bricks and hammers around in?

  8. peter w says:

i agree Baz! if you like it, and you are cashed up enough to afford it, buy it because you can!!
the rest of you that sit back and bagged it keep dreaming and driving your 85 Datto

  9. disbeliever says:

I can’t believe you guys spend all this time bagging cars and each other.

Why don’t you just read about cars you like or take up golf!

The new Maloo is a status symbol and if it is anything like the old Maloo it is a sensational car to drive with enough torque to drive everywhere in 5th gear with the standard diff gearing. I have owned many utes – Ford and Holden, Supercharged BA’s and modified LS2’s. The 6.0-litre is sensational on the street and gives 12.5-12.9 l/100km around town while making 350+hp at the tyres.

If you want to lug a load by a truck or a one-tonner. Top speed is irrelevant but driving manners and bottom-end torque are all that matters IMHO. The Ford quad cammer has nothing under 4000rpm without a PD supercharger so hopefully their new engines will put some back where it is needed for day to day fun. Nuff Said.

  10. smokin'R32 says:

    ^^ what he said

  11. Watto_Cobra says:

Yeah, I have to agree with that. Better 6 in the Falcon, better 8 in the Commodore.

  12. pigmonkey says:

Dudes, you all miss the real reason people buy utes like the new maloo. If you own your own business you can claim the whole lot on tax regardless of what you actually use the vehicle for. I ordered a new maloo and i reckon if most of you actually drove one you would probably respect it as an affordable sports car, no one in their right mind should suggest it is a work vehicle because it is not. It is the best way to enjoy an excellent handling machine with heaps of power and still beat the tax man. If ford ever make a decent v8 again i would look at buying one but lets face it the boss is a dud and fords six has become the performance engine of choice, awesome motor but I myself cant go past an 8.

  13. Toyota Paul says:

Pfft better 8 in the Commodore… its a pushrod engine. Impressive figures, not an impressive engine.

And Pigmonkey I think you will find you are wrong in regards to tax, only the portion used in your business activities you can claim deductions on…. not private use. And Im not sure how much a Maloo is tbh but again depreciation is another thing, you can only claim up to a cost of $57,000, so alittle bit again you cant claim as a deduction… NOT the ‘whole lot’. If your doing that and Mr Taxman finds out, you will be in some trouble!

  14. Duck says:

I Like the rear tail light design (limited edition design). And i think the whole car is great

  15. Duck says:

And if you sit in one of these wonderful maloo’s, it probaly wont have any plastic lego!

  16. Watto_Cobra says:

hey Duck, I was a bit harsh back at the start of this blog. It’s growing on me. It always thought it looked mean, but without sitting in one, I’m iffy about blind-spot vision.

I still don’t like the tailgate lights though. Good to differentiate it from SS at the back (something FPV should do more of), but a better shape could’ve been designed I think.
