Toyota FT-86G Sports Concept to debut at Sydney International Motor Show
Toyota has announced today that it will unveil the second iteration of the Toyota FT-86 concept; the Toyota FT-86G Sports concept, at the Sydney Motor Show in October.
The addition of the 'G' in the car's code name is Toyota shorthand for sports conversion models. It sees the addition of a large carbon fibre rear wing, carbon fibre rear diff...

Let's just hope the poor production quality is an indication that every dime has been put into the development of the new generation HSV models.
More plastic than a Lego factory. It looks mean tho with the bulges in the rear decklid.
But, I’ve said this before, that tailgate with those tailights on it are FOUL. A real turn off. I predict more than one Maloo buyer will change the tailgate or do “something” to fix this.
http://. Colonel Klink
PLASTIC OVERKILL UNFANTASTIC…. WHAT IS WITH WEIRD DAEWOO WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OUT THERE TAILIGHTS AS LOOKS MEGA FUGLY!
Scott B
Meh, its just a ute with a shiteload of plastic cladding. I’m sure the bogans will be happy but I’ve never got the whole ute thing.
watto_cobra
I’ve never seen the point of a ute that can’t carry a decent load either. Everytime I see a Holdenwoo ute or crewman with a load, it’s always on a trailer. Just seems pointless to me.
Nick J
Must have consulted the Subaru design guy on that rear end. Ugly as sin.
Bavarian Missile
Yep Watto I have said the same myself before! Sorry dont like the tail lights . Those wheels are going to hit a few gutters look how far they hang out from the rim of the tyre! I was told it had cup holders in the tail gate !
280zx
Your all just pissed off because its the fastest in the world! Haaaaa total beast !
http://navelcontemplation.blogspot.com Supercujo
The world’s fastest ute, it doesn’t really have that much competition to be completely honest. Only the Tornado or Cobra ute would even come close to this. Nobody else in the world builds unique cars like these, a car front end with no load capacity.
watto_cobra
We’ve spoken about that before haven’t we 280zx?
Fastest maybe but not practical. No one else has bothered trying, it was just to satisfy the bogans so they score points in an argument.
Geared too high, need a huge run up because of the tall gearing. Pointless because you’d lose your license for years if caught trying to do that speed.
And deep down I think most people would think that tailgate/taillight combo is gross.
http://. Colonel Klink
280zx… maybe if you lived near the autobahn, but reality is who gives a tinkers toss whether it had 380kw and 750Nm as you will lose your license. You wont be able to pay the speeding fine as you like most have short arms and long deep pockets and you would be in crap if you got caught by cops. Good point on the rims. LOL mate most Holden people are similar… tis only the depth of stupidity that varies!
Frugal One
Did you know that those solid rear covers KILL?
Yes, a unfortunate guy got rear-ended by a truck, the lid shapped the pissie-little clips that hold it on, pushed it through the rear window, bend the rear seat and snapped his neck.
GM/H just ignored it, “a accident”
Not a nice colour, and the rear b pillar looks silly with the lid combo
Cheers

watto_cobra
Didn’t know that about the hard top covers. Any word on if something similar has happened to Falcon utes with a hard boot lid?
Missile, I think you’re right about the protruding rims asking for damage.
smokin’R32
Apparently that tonneau cover is motorised and can be controlled by the car keys, pretty cool.
Not really a fan of those tails lights but atleast it is clearly differentiated from the holden models, the FPVs sometimes make you wonder.
Frosty
Stop the shit about Commodores being for Bogans. Must be a hell of a lot of them as the Commodore has been Australia’s best selling car for well over a decade. Maybe its the other car owners who are bogans so stop the shit those morons who say that and the otherthings about Holden. Must be those Foria, Forda etc lovers. Don’t forget the Mazda 2 and Fiesta are basically the same car except for the shell.
watto_cobra
Motorised? As in swings up from the front via a motor? Hmmm…. suits the show pony styling I guess, wonder how practical it would be tho. To me that’s just another thing to go wrong. Gas struts do a fine job of making a boot hard top easy to open.
Frugal One
watto_cobra
No idea if it could happen to Falcon.
Its basic really, when hit from behind the foward energy has to go somewhere and glass and seat aint all that strong.
My advice regardless of what brand its on, if its at glass window level i would not want it fitted
It was a accident and really could easily happen again [unless GM/H have made/fitted it in a safer way?]
Cheers

Of course there’s a lot of bogans, this is Australia you moron, the country where the mullet flanelette shirt never went out of fashion. Holden knows this and knows how to pitch their products perfectly to their target market – white conservative males. That is why the Commodore is the best selling car in the country, they have a marketing team that not even Toyota can currently match.
And before any lunatic fanboy attempts to reply, no I am not a Ford fanboy. I’m not ANY car manufacturer fanboy. I am a CAR fanboy. The Commodore is a good car, it deserves to sell well. So is the Falcon, so is practically every other car on the market. Is the Commodore the best car on the market? Hell no. Is it worthy of fanatical devotion? Hell no. Has Holden cleverly marketed themselves with an image presenting the Commodore as exciting, sporty, masculine, a 4 door road warrior that makes legends of those that drive it? Hell yes.
Don’t believe the hype.
Bavarian Missile
Arrrrrrrr I get what your saying Scott,so now we know why there are more Bogans that drive Commys than anything else.Good point thanks for making it!
Andrew M
interesting thought on the hard lid frugal one and one that isnt thought about.
i would imagine it would have to be hit by a truck though so the nose of another vehicle hits right on the edge of the lid
guys whether you like it or not you have to appreciate it for what it is (and im not a holden fan)
yeah the fastest ute title is just marketing crap to give dreams to young hoons.
it is the fastest ute that has been tested not the fastest ute in the world (in reality)
Supercujo,
mate not only HSV’s and FPV’s are capable of the title it was previously held by the ford lightning and a dodge (forget the name plate). the pair of american trucks battled it out for a while too
missile,
the falcon ute also has cup holders in the tail gate (since ’99)
Wayne
Here we go again. Something new comes out and people dont like this and take. People just dont like changes. They have to change things like the tail light to get new designs. im guessing most of you guys just want to keep the smae thing. everyone has different tastes and im sure in the months to come you will like the things you dont like now.
Bavarian Missile
Yey Andrew Really!!!!! There just seems to be too much on it!
I just don’t get guys and utes? If you want it for practical reasons great…..but I don’t think you would see a dog in the back of this in fear of scratching it, let alone a dirt bike! ! Why not by a car and have a tow bar!
Andrew M
missile,
utes are the new 2 door sports cars. some people might not agree but they are. they are no more less practical than any other 2 door sports car
Toyota Paul
That rear looks awful, what were they thinking. People take shows at the Imprezas, honestly they aernt THAT bad… the rear of this Maloo is quite possibly the fugliest I have seen.
Me.
The Holdenwoo loving channel nine news Brisbane at 6:00pm has put in this HSV at the Sydney Motor Show. Nothing about the Ford.
SPEED FREAK
FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT OTHER THAN ME. ANDREW M HAS PRETTY MUCH SUMBED IT UP. MOST OF THESE PEOPLE WRITING IN ARE CITY YOKALS AND NO NOTHING ABOUT UTES AND FARMING ETC…..LONG LIVE THE UTE……………………..
Bavarian Missile
hahaha …..Paul your right Subaru have made changes to go after a different market what market is Holden looking for? Blind people that drive in braille!
Hey Andrew…..thanks for clearing that up for me ,scratches head! Still don’t get though! Dont you use your tray?
SPEED FREAK
PS: THE WHEELS ARE ACTUALLY FLUSH WITH THE RUBBER AND DONT STICK OUT…
Me.
SPEED FREAK, YOU CAN’T USE IT FOR FARMING UNLESS YOU HAVE A TRAILER, a ute like this wreaks the point of having a ute.
Bavarian Missile
Now I am really lost, city yokals!!!!!!! Why do I have to know something about UTES to understand why there not used practically like they were first designed for Speedfreak! I thought farmers used them ,I would like to see a farmer in that! Boys from the bush drive those big mudflapped ,65 spotlights and 25 stickers on the back window, and an air horn to boot, don’t they…..pffttt city yokals!
Andrew M
missile,
are you being funny again? he he he
yes i certainly do use my tray but the liner inside means no scratches from putting stuff inside it.
but yes i do have some scratches gggrrrrrrr but i honestly say they are not from me (like every one says).
i also use a trailer and even if i had an alloy tray i would still use a trailer. but before trailer days i did use the back of it a lot more and didnt really scratch it to be honest. its not like it gets loaded by forklifts all day (or ever)
the reason i say they are the new 2 door sports car is the fact that there is a hell of a lot more sports utes out there than 2 door coupes now days
i reckon the tail lights will grow on us though. if they hadnt changed them they would have been critisised for not changing them.
my main problem is the base model ute backs look the same as the typical maloo look.
now i dont like holdens i just try to give a fair/unbiased comment on all my postings
Bavarian Missile
Speedfreak, you blind! Look again they hang out past the tyre!
Andrew M
Me,
you couldnt use it for farming even if you had a trailer because you still need ground clearance too.
gee some people still have trouble trying to comprehend that models such as these are not utes but rather a sports car.
just pretend that the ute tray and hard lid is a hatch like on a coupe
id reckon that the tyres have rim protectors on them that you probably cant make out to try and help.
Andrew M
just looking at the interior again it looks quite dated and old to me. what you can see of the seats looks like saggy leather.
Bavarian Missile
Phew you were starting to worry me for a minute .I thought you were implying you didn’t use the back!
Hey I have calmed my Holden bagging over the last few months from my early days you know I have ,this I find hard to say anything positive about,oh hang on nice exhaust extensions!hehehe I think this will look hideous in years to come too and won’t date well.Sorry my opinion!
Me.
Thats right Andrew M, can’t even use it for pulling trailers for farming because of low grownd clearance.
Andrew M
im sure the people that buy this wont even know what a farm is so ground clearance wont be an issue anyhow
watto_cobra
Yes, the taillights will grow on some people. The AU grew on some people too. I applaud HSV for making the Maloo look different to SS, in the same way Clubbie and GTS look different to SS. I think they got it badly wrong tho in that it looks like some weird Ssangyong (is that how you spell it?) styling.
Perhaps if they released images of the back sooner, listened to any criticism, then redesigned them.
The rest of the styling is mean, aggresive, but extremely impractical. We’ve all been over this by now. IF you want a pretty ute, buy the Maloo or Super Pursuit. If you want a useful, practical ute, buy a Falcon or RTV.
Personal choice for me, I just can’t see the use of a pretty ute, a sporty car to me is a sedan anyday.
Andrew M
watto,
mate i dont think Ssangyong even know how to spell it and just threw an extra “S” in front for the hell of it
wheelnut
I don’t mind it that much.. Theres no doubt it looks different.. which afterall; is what you want when paying such a premium over a normal ute.
The Tail lights look similar to the rear end of a BMW X5.
Yet I don’t get the hole in the side skirts
I have never liked Flip-Top Tonneau Covers; I’d much prefer a remote controlled Roll-A-Back Tonneau Cover which has 4 stage locking positions
Andrew M
wheelnut,
yeah the rolla covers are a bit more practical but this is all about style.
we all know by now that holden arent interested in being practical.
wheelnut
Andrew M – you’re right prior to the Maloos attempt the Worlds Fastest Ute was an SVT Ford Lightning
However from what I understand after reading several articles on the Maloos attempt as well as talking to those in the industry. It appears that Guinness changed the definition of a ute to be more inline with the definitions that are accepted throughout the automotive industry:
That is a Utility vehicle which is based on or derived from a chassis/platform used on a sedan.
As the SVT Lightning is based on a sepperate rigid [Truck Like] chassis it no longer meets the definition and as Guinness have adopted the automotive industries definitions it is now regarded as a PICK-UP. Therefore; the Maloo is the OFFICIAL Guiness Record holder as the Worlds Fastest UTE.. and will continue to do so.. until Ford has a Crack at it
Note: the Maloo was a Factory Production Car with no aftermarket enhancements or modifications
Bavarian Missile
Hey Wheelnut where do you live so I can send you some mouth wash……..BMW and Holden in the same sentence!!!!!!What are you thinking! Holden have copied soooooooooo much from BM already dont tell me the tail lights too off this.
Did I mention I like the exhaust extensions!!!!!
Andrew M
well if the lightning etc is no longer in the same category then it actually looks worse for holden as they have beat nothing.
oh course when you are the first “ute” to be tested you will be the fastest.
so ill ask you wheelnut (since you are a reasonable holden follower) do you think the title of the maloo is just marketing rubbish?
wheelnut
Andrew M – I don’t really see the “Worlds Fastest Ute” thing as rubbish. Afterall someone had to be the first..
I mean If no-one wanted to be the first to do something – such as going to the moon etc.. Imagine where we’d be.
By being the first to set the record as the Worlds Fastest Ute.. it gives Ford something to aim at.
Either way.. If or when Ford breaks the record; HSV will always be able to say they were the First.
wheelnut
Missile – The fact that I said the lights on the maloo look similar to that on the X5 means that HSV [like so many other car companies] copied BMW.
Given the fact that BMW are considered to be a benchmark in the auto industry [in virtually every area] and that there aren’t that many original ideas in the automotive industry at the moment – if any they appear to come from BMW, Merc or Audi.. means that others will obviously want to copy them. which is why there are a so many similarities between various makes/models paricularly when it comes to design
Andrew M
ah true true i suppose wheelnut,
but whats the fun in a one horse race.
hell i hope ford give it a go now. the orion tornado will beat it id say.
Bavarian Missile
Wheelnut, your forgiven! I really dont think Ford give two hoots on the record, cause its not factory so it doesn’t count! Should you put Ford against Holden in a race ,Ford would do it !!!!!As Andrew said the Orion Tornado will beat it,and when it comes to UTE racing Andrew…….think of this the Ford is gooing to NAILLLLLLLLL the Holden next year>ha!
Bavarian Missile
Go to bed honey you have to get up early, what time do you get up Andrew?
Andrew M
yeah id say ford will dominate ute racing next year. they already more than keep the holdens honest at the moment and im sure the extra grunt will make sure they leave them behind.
what time do i get up?? well depends how many times i manage to find the snooze button he he he he
Bavarian Missile
MMMMM,your clearly not my star sign,Scorpio………..Up and ATOM! Yep Fords will nail again!
watto_cobra
I’m curious because I know very little about the V8 Brutes (are they still called that). Never seem to get coverage on them here.
Seemed fairly even, but I think Falcon won most championships?? If so, not bad for leaf springs.
To my memory, they’re basically road utes with roll cage, etc and for parity instead of adding ballast they adjust the rev limit. Correct?
If so, which one get hobbled? I suspect maybe the Falcon, but when they go to VE, I’d guess it’d be the Commodore. Can someone fill me in a bit?
Andrew M
yeah watto,
they are the closest to production Holden V Ford racing you will see
i saw them this year when they followed the V8′s to my local track.
you usually can get it on telly though maybe you need to look a bit harder. there should be a schedule on their website id reckon.
id have to look up most championship wins but from memory of what ive seen over the years id reckon you are right in saying ford has won more
did you know that grant denyer used to race a brute?
they all have nicknames too and he was “mad dog denyer”
woz
Fug U Mr Maloo I’m may be blind but I still hate to see U sorry but this Holdenwoo Maloooo will need a makeover ASAP, let’s start with some silicon in the bonnet area where we need some bulge..
Guido UK Boy
Wish we could have some decent styled utes in the UK. All the builders drive here are Hilux’s and Nissan Navaras. Why do you need a 4WD on the road to carry a few bags of cement. Wa%*kers.
Come on GM import this to the UK slap a big diesel in it and will sell like hot-cakes.
love from Blighty
Rugby World Cup Winners 2003, 2007 ha ha
Me.
UK Boy,
I won’t be suprised if the Holden ute is exported to the UK as an Opel or Vauxal, but the Maloo model is unlikley.
P.S… England will be out of the Rugby World cup in no time!!
Me.
Sorry to bring football in to this. Way off topic, I don’t care about Rugby World Cup, I’m into Motor Sport, I mean V8 supercars.
Barry
impact
to each there own…if you want a ute for work then there are heaps out there that will do the job. what normal person would by a Maloo to cart there bricks and hammers around in?
peter w
i agree Baz! if you like it, and you are cashed up enough to afford it, buy it because you can!!
the rest of you that sit back and bagged it keep dreaming and driving your 85 Datto
http://www.89.com disbeliever
I can’t believe you guys spend all this time bagging cars and each other.
Why don’t you just read about cars you like or take up golf!
The new Maloo is a status symbol and if it is anything like the old Maloo it is a sensational car to drive with enough torque to drive everywhere in 5th gear with the standard diff gearing. I have owned many utes – Ford and Holden, Supercharged BA’s and modified LS2′s. The 6.0-litre is sensational on the street and gives 12.5-12.9 l/100km around town while making 350+hp at the tyres.
If you want to lug a load by a truck or a one-tonner. Top speed is irrelevant but driving manners and bottom-end torque are all that matters IMHO. The Ford quad cammer has nothing under 4000rpm without a PD supercharger so hopefully their new engines will put some back where it is needed for day to day fun. Nuff Said.
smokin’R32
^^ what he said
Watto_Cobra
Yeah, I have to agree with that. Better 6 in the Falcon, better 8 in the Commodore.
pigmonkey
Dudes, you all miss the real reason people buy utes like the new maloo. If you own your own business you can claim the whole lot on tax regardless of what you actually use the vehicle for. I ordered a new maloo and i reckon if most of you actually drove one you would probably respect it as an affordable sports car, no one in their right mind should suggest it is a work vehicle because it is not. It is the best way to enjoy an excellent handling machine with heaps of power and still beat the tax man. If ford ever make a decent v8 again i would look at buying one but lets face it the boss is a dud and fords six has become the performance engine of choice, awesome motor but I myself cant go past an 8.
Toyota Paul
Pfft better 8 in the Commodore… its a pushrod engine. Impressive figures, not an impressive engine.
And Pigmonkey I think you will find you are wrong in regards to tax, only the portion used in your business activities you can claim deductions on…. not private use. And Im not sure how much a Maloo is tbh but again depreciation is another thing, you can only claim up to a cost of $57,000, so alittle bit again you cant claim as a deduction… NOT the ‘whole lot’. If your doing that and Mr Taxman finds out, you will be in some trouble!
Duck
I Like the rear tail light design (limited edition design). And i think the whole car is great
Duck
And if you sit in one of these wonderful maloo’s, it probaly wont have any plastic lego!
Watto_Cobra
hey Duck, I was a bit harsh back at the start of this blog. It’s growing on me. It always thought it looked mean, but without sitting in one, I’m iffy about blind-spot vision.
I still don’t like the tailgate lights though. Good to differentiate it from SS at the back (something FPV should do more of), but a better shape could’ve been designed I think.
