2010 Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG unveiled

By George Skentzos |

Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off its updated Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG which now boasts a raft of subtle yet effective design changes.

As its nameplate would suggest, under the bonnet sits AMG’s renowned naturally aspirated 6.3-litre V8 engine which pumps out an incredible 375kW and 630Nm.

Its performance is uncharacteristic of a big luxury SUV, sprinting from zero to 100km/h in 5.0 seconds flat and on to an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

Power is transferred to the permanent all-wheel drive system – which boasts a 40:60 torque split – through an AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission with three drive modes.

The AMG sports suspension package integrates AIRMATIC air suspension, adaptive damping system ADS and automatic level control all-round which provides dynamic performance combined with long-distance comfort.

An enormous AMG high-performance brake package sits behind 20-inch lightweight five-spoke AMG alloy wheels painted titanium grey, wrapped with 295/40 R 20 tyres.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG features electrically adjustable AMG sports seats finished in nappa leather upholstery, with Alcantara inserts and multicontour function and heating, complemented by an AMG sports steering wheel with AMG aluminium shift paddles.

Mercedes-Benz Australia is taking orders for the 2010 ML 63 AMG currently.

Nice Car, fog lights look out of place, and it’s a 6.2L not a 6.3L it Says 6.3 for heritage!

    • timmy201

Its like 6206cc and IIRC German car companies have to round the volume up to the next 0.1L

      • Camski

Correct Timmy, reason for that is for German gas guzzler tax laws, naturally they can tax more for a 6.3 than a 6.2, those money grabbing fiends, why wouldn’t they? :P

Hi Mercedes Australia, while this looks very nice may I ask where our G-Wagen is?

    Thanks.

    • devil666

      Amen. G55, with 7G-tronic, baby!

  • Sam 300TD

I love everything but the big black rectangle at the front. And yes where is the G?

  • nickdl

I think AMG have done an HSV with the ML. The old one was a very good looking car but the black rectangle on the front and the chrome bits on the bottom of the bumper bars look tacky. Overstyled like the E2.

    I’d rather the X5 M.

I don’t understand why I got negative votes… It was a simple unbiased statement that is simply my opinion. I never tried to state that either one was better or anything. Oh well…

That AMG 6.3 v8 has to be one of the worlds greatest engine… just look at the power figures 375kW and 630Nm with not a turbo/super charger in sight. And boy, does it sound great too, even when it’s just crusing! Every time I see a C/E 63 on the road I wind down the window just to hear that sound.

    • ox

and to add… hate to admit it but puts our local V8s to shame…. Ford, Holden please take note.

      • Hung Low

Yes it is a great engine but why draw comparisons to the local V8′s? Since when does any one else offer a 290kw V8 engine in a RWD chassis for under $50k?
The GM LS7 still gives it a good run (373kw & 657nm) for the money though, pushrods and all!

        • devil666

Well, 6.2 VS 6.2 in the V8 department and you can really see how the Germans just do it better. I think an even more delicious fact is that the 63 engine can be had in an even greater state of tune in the SLS AMG. What AMG can do with 6200cc, the General needs a Supercharger to achieve.

          Heil Mercedes!

          • Hung Low

Devil the GM LS7 is naturally aspirated as found on the ZO6 Corvette, it does give 700cc to the AMG motor though!
The LS9 in the ZR1 is the supercharged small block with 463kw and 823nm!
Not talking anything from the Mercedes engine, it is brilliant but the yanks have achieved greatness from the humble pushrod engine!

        • ox

I was just drawing comparison to the sound of the V8s, just wished that our local v8s would sound as good. You could never compare a $50k local technically to a $200k German machine.

To me this is possibly the most vulgar sports SUV. Just look at that front air intake – it’s awful, it’s a rectangle, and doesn’t fit in with the rest of the design!

New Cayenne Turbo, RRS Supercharged or a Q7 4.2TDI for me please :) .

Fog lights need to be bigger.

These super 4x4s are starting to tear up the streets, with bull run acceleration yet car like handling in a high riding package. Unlike the previous ML, this one looks the business against the X5M. The latter would still likely be better to drive but this Merc is certainly one to consider seriously. The new Cayenne is less ugly but in the end just an upscale Touareg and not as pure as a Porsche should be.
