2008 Ford Falcon XR8 ‘Orion’ CGI
CarAdvice’s automotive stylist has yet again been hard at work taking the covers off Ford’s newest Falcon. Broadmeadows has been hard at work finishing off the next generation Falcon, with test mules as common as morning coffee.

As the undisputed home of Ford Falcon ‘Orion’ spy photographs and associated images, CarAdvice is again happy to bring you the latest Falcon Orion computer generated images.
With rumors currently running hot off the press, sources inside Ford have suggested that the new FPV Typhoon will produce north of 300kW, along with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) as standard equipment.
Derived from a combination of test mule images, along with insider information, the CarAdvice stylist has come up with the following images, signifying the 2007 Ford Falcon XR8.

Click here for larger version (1136 x 639)
With the power output of the Orion FPV GT expected to rise to 320kW - following the special edition Cobra GT now hitting 302kW - the XR8 will most likely follow suite and receive a power increase. Holden’s SS Commodore currently puts out 270kW, so it can be assumed the new XR8 will equal - or better - the SS Commodore’s power output.

High-resolution copies of the images attached are available. Please contact CarAdvice to request copies.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t find that car attractive. Similar to the BA style, but some level of sophistication I can’t put my finger on. I just wish it was a bit lighter than the outgoing model.
Score one for an Aussie built car.

wow, thats some brilliant work! The falcon is going to make the VE look soo 5 years ago. The rear looks o’bese aka wide load or chunky but, but it gives a good hint at what it will look like.

Ford must like caradvice, because look whats airbrushed into the paint. It’s alot better than the caradvice stickers all over the base model.
Will the airbrushed website come as an option?
I sure hope so…

I hope the Orion XR8 uses current GT Boss 290.
Does not need the ugly flered gurds, because its not a small body put on a big platform like the VE Dunnydore.

Looking good so far, except maybe the foglight position. There aren’t too many places you can put foggy’s (on any car) but I’m a bit iffy where they are now. XR model headlights need deeper scallops too.
But I LIKE how it’s going

The Ford orion as depicted above looks very classie. The thing that stand out when you compare the VE Commodore which will be its main competitor, is the VE looks like a hoons car. You can see the family resemblance with the Ford Mondeo.
One things for sure, with Ford winning Bathurst (1st, 2nd and 3rd) it will allow them to argue they make the better undercarage.

Would be curious to see how Orion goes against pedestrian crash legislation. The nose on the protoype looks far lower and sleeker than on a lot of new models (including the Commodore) designed to meet the new crash requirements. Who knows, maybe the Ford engineers have done a better job with front end.
Still, the car looks very good. Certainly more cohesive than the current model. Thumbs up to the Ford designers.
(Report)

WOW! How sleek does that look? Yep I think the front will be more aggressive than that, the bulge doesn’t look big enough I would think it has to be larger to clear the top of the engine. The rear looks great ,and roof height nice and low!Great job Josh!

Also in general I do not like how most car makers now try to slope bottom air intake plastic (plastic between main air intake and driving lights below main headlights) from 1o’clock position to 6o’clock position when used to be from 10o’clock position to 5o’clock position (look at 380)! I think the XR8 needs to have higher main air intake with black plastic insert set back of bumper bar face and around driving lights should not be left open but rather one or two horizontal plastic bars or similar finish to whats on last model Corolla or mesh

One problem with this artist impression - front end overhang and proportion! There is no way that this front end of the Falcon platform will be that short and accommodate the in-line six cylinder engine which makes up most of the nameplate’s sales. Looks like a Mondeo photo-shopped…

wat a great looking car
its going to be a big hit when on the market.
bonnet bulge- more streamlined designed into the car
ford have kept the ‘ford look’ about the orion too where as holden have taken chunks from different cars and so called made it their own.
few minor changes would make the car up for COTY running in 08
GO FORD bathurst 1-2-3 cant wait to see wat the supercar would look like
this is abit old but if u notice the current BF falcon range - Ghia has a similar look about the orion

Now that the offical photo’s of the Mondeo have been released, if you go back through the “Orion” spy pic’s (check out the pic’s from 5 June 2007), you’ll notice that they are more than likely the Mondeo being tested for Australian conditions, not the new Falcon. It’s noticable on the doors, the sill line above the door handles, the shape of the front etc etc.
Does anyone “really” know what the new car will look like?

Jeza…you have given me hope yet…These CGI images make me nervous. Yes they look good (except those DAMN fog light positions) but not aggressive enough to smash the VE’s. It looks nice, but Ford needs the Falcon to be much better than nice. There will always be die hard Falcon owners who will contimue to buy the next Falcon but they need to start pulling people back from Toyota and Holden. It needs to have the impact of the BA release but with better build quality and fuel consumption. A sleek, modern and well finished interior is also a must… GOOD LUCK FORD.

Bavarian Missile - You’re right! There are alot of BMW features on the VE - which you keep listing such as the: flared guards; interior; headlights; door handles; wing mirrors; suspension; exhaust etc..
\
Which could explain why the Commodore is out-selling the Falcon.. maybe some people have realised that by buying a VE they are in fact getting a BMW for 1/2 the price.
Because going by your blogs the only real difference is the engine.. oh and the badge

Wheelnut Says: Don’t try to compare the VE Commodore with the BMW. They say a suite does not make a man and neither does copying the lines of quality by fake contenders. Get real Wheelnut, I know what Bavarian Missile is eluding too. The lines on the BMW are suttle not aggressive like the VE. BMW doesn’t have to prove anything but the VE is desperate to create an image of superiority. The VE already looks tired and I don’t believe will grow old gracefully. As for the mechanics; Holden goes to great lengths to tell us that marque cars like Alfo Romeo use their V6’s. If you call using their BLOCKS (not heads or any other parts of the engine) an engine. And of course what about the billion dollar chassis which is having trouble handling its self in the V8 Super Car series.
Always remember you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time.
The buying public is looking else where for its cars, ie European imports. If it wasn’t for the leasing and rental companies I’m sure Holden’s sale numbers would be a lot less.
(Report)
October 22nd, 2007 at 7:25 pm
Yes Wheelnut, maybe that is true, but you’d think that most people who buy a car that looks like a BMW, but is 1/2 the price, would realise that it is half the build quality as well… And chances are will be recalled (again) within the month of purchase.
(Report)
October 22nd, 2007 at 7:53 pm
I was being sarcastic when I said people eho buy a VE are getting a BMW for half price” as most people who are looking at a BMW most likely wouldn’t look at a VE [and vice versa]
My main point was that there aren’t that many new ideas in the industry.. those there are often come from BMW [and as such are the benchmark in a number of areas].
As a result nearly all car companies copy each others designs [again mostly form BMW] therefore; its very likely that when you look at a car you’re going to see traces of or influences from various other makes such as the BMW-esque features on the VE.
It’s just that the way BM goes on about the similarities between the 2.. she seems offended that a common ozi car has the same features/looks as her beloved prestige euro. where infact she should be proud; because how ever hard they try they will never be able to equal/match the original.
as they say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.

“imitation is the most sincere form of flattery”. I would agree with this statement if it related to cars from Chine or Japan. But lets get real here. The Australian car industry does not have to copy any cars from over seas. Why? because we have the “nouse” to make them better and in a great package. I know that a lot of our designs come from the parent companies in America but I still believe we can do it better. As an example of a car with great lines, have a look at the former Bowell Nagari. Did that have lines or what.
You might say I am supporting the new Commodore, but I am not because it is so much over the top it’s just not funny.

BM - over the years I Have driven various models from both BMW and Holden.
I admit that you can’t really compare the two as they’re aimed at differnet markets, etc The only real basis you can compare them is by using BMW as the Benchmark - as so many car companies including Holden do
Even though Holden will never be a direct rival to BMW I; like many international motoring journalists would say that [in some areas] the difference isn’t as great as it once was.
One particular area [where Holden has improved] is in terms of Handling yet that could be because the Suspension on the VE is fairly similar to that off the 5-Series
The same applies for Ford [compared to BMW]. Both Aussie Companies have made significant improvements to their cars but will never match the Germans - mainly due to budgets; access to technology/resources and size of the market

BMW “THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE” enough said!
Love a bit a read early tonight sent by a good friend!!hahaha
The idea for a born-again Torana; probably to be called the Pontiac G6; was first floated by the former head of GM Holden, Peter Hanenberger, who believed it was the right car to give GM a prestige rival to the BMW 3 Series.
Development of the car is now under way and General Motors vice-president of product development, Bob Lutz, confirms details first leaked through the powerful United Automobile Workers union in the US
Yeah…….right rival the 3 SERIES …..based on what ?
The Mondeo may come close to but thats made for a market that demands quality…….GM well what can I say ..hehehe

Let me just say that we are all in for a shock when Ford releases the new Falcon to the general public. It will look nothing like these artists impressions. In fact, thats what it’s all about. To get the public talking. And it’s working… And Ford Mo Co is probably in fits of laughter seeing what these CGI images are doing to everyone. Just wait and see when the real thing appears. Speculation is exactly what Ford wants right now. The public is feeding them with what they want to see. Lots of interest in the new car which gets the opposition mainly GMH all on edge.

Yep, that’d be tasty in an FPV. Yella Terra make a super-charger that sits nicely in the valley under the original plenum cover. It’s completely hidden except the fact that the alternator has to be moved to another spot. FPV ought to look at that for a HO.

Not sure what you mean about the drivetrain closer in line with the rest. I assume Orion will keep the ZF6-speed, maybe even make it standard across the range. It is a far better box than Holden 4auto or even 6auto.

HARRY…Geepers, crikey. Ummmm ya say boyfriends? YUK!
Agree with the fun part as that was second problem last night when got on late with me reading posts in dark and missing RICHO’s comments.
Orion whilst nice as is still not massive jump ahead of where it came from. Back same-ish. Front lights more angled and up swept at bottom, doors look different (hope they fixed sharp bit on top of rear doors) and just air intake are the main highlights. NOT QUANTUM LEAP ABOVE WHERE IT IS.
Still love it as SCREENSAVER!
That is what is great about CARADVICE - reviews and pics; together with exhaustive archives! Makes other websites older; and well a distant second on this Melbourne Cup day!

goog, I remember when you posted on the page with the leaked images and you said you hated Ford but Blue Blood gave you something… “Why do you hate Aussie Fords so much.
Did they offend you personally somehow or do you just dislike all Aussie cars unless there Holdens, cos dude there is a whole other world out there.
Ford has a rich history in this country pre dating holden by many years.
They have made some of the greatest muscle cars ever seen on our road, the stuff of what legends are made.
I am not asking you to suddenly love Fords, just give them a little respect after all half the people in this country drive one so they can’t be that bad.
You think All fords look like sh!t well-
Look at the fin on a GTHO then look at the fin sitting on the boot of an VE SS.
Look at the bonnet scoops on a XB GT then look at the last monaro.
Look at the latest Holden ute and then thank Ford Australia for inventing the Ute in the first place.
Look at the ground breaking XR GT then look at every other Aussie muscle car that came after it.
I’m not looking at this new Falcon as a “me to” to the Commodore, it is the next exciting evolution of our (yes yours to Goog, assuming your an Aussie of course) Aussie Ford let’s hope to see many more.
OOHHH I feel all tingilly after that.”

Its a great way to get everybodys attention as it did for me. Great camoflauge they use on it but the FORD badges stood out. I bet they be takin it on the Great Ocean road to give it a good run.

Yeah ME,
They do there testing also at the Proving grounds in Lara, where I used to work back in 1992 . Got to see em showcase the new EB Falcon at the test track and the new 4 litre engine which come out back in those days and it was a killer of a engine doin V8s. Wont be long till that comes to an end. Its time for a change and a good 20 years out of the 4 litre did FORD AUSTRALIA proud as no other car company came close to what Ford Australia acheived. Is it time for Fords V8s to conquer again or will the new Ford V6 continue on with domination of aussie muscle cars…
(Report)
December 12th, 2007 at 11:33 pm
If the venerable 4 litre inline 6 was a global engine there would be plenty of money to upgrade it to EuroIV standards. More money would also improve it’s performance and fuel economy even further.
There would be years left in that engine if it weren’t limited to Oz.

dont buy one & Ford = “Great”, Bet You like your crappy 1 billion dollar lemon flop with 4 re-calls in your GM daewoo dunnydore. Wake up and learn how crap your loving brand is before you think other cars are crap.
–Remember Ford have pre-dated your crap Holdenwoos for more than 20 years in Australia before the FX with its crap weak body spreading if you put too much weight on it.
–Holden had to copy the design of the XK Falcon.
–Bet you love the “Misfire 4″ in the re-baged Opel Rekord and how crap it was compared to the Ford’s 6 at the same time. So good bye to Holden’s own six cylinders.
–Holden were so bad they had to use Nissan, YES NISSAN engines! then the VN with a Buick, YES BUICK V6.
–Ad campaign for Commodores with Buick V6 should of been = “Power steering fluid leaks come standard”
–Now back to present time, Holdenwoo spends more than 1 billion dollars on a Dunnydore. Must mean it’s a great car hey?
…Areas where a 4 year old car are better… Problems galore, try starting it in the morning and it won’t go, A new car won’t even start after the company who made it spent more that 1 billion dollars in development and it won’t go.
So give me the facts, thanks. I don’t need to hear “Ford = Crap” - it’s not the facts.
Or maybe you need to go back to Holdenwoo’s forums?

Regular servicing, averaging 12.9 litres per 100km and with only 55,ooo on it I can easily get another 150,000 on it before problems start. Come to think about it, the CGI picture of the falcon does have some real parts of the actuall FG Falcon. The one thing I can see they got the rear lights exactly right. The window sill though is slopprd down to much. And one thing is that the real FG Falcon (not FPV’s (Cause FPV’s have two exhaust pipes)) does not have two exhaust pipes like the CGI does.
