Subaru Impreza WRX STi confirmed for Tokyo

By Alborz Fallah |

Subaru has released some more photos of the new STi, now confirmed for the Tokyo Motor Show on October 24.

From the Photos, the new STi looks somewhat disappointing and with the new Mitsubishi Evo X set for debut at tomorrow’s Australian International Motor Show, Subaru’s latest rally-king is going to have a fight on its hands.

Additionally, Subaru will present the seven-seat EXIGA concept, which is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged horizontally opposed engine coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission.

The Japanese manufacturer is also expected to show-off the company’s latest electric vehicle concept, the G4e. Powered by the next-generation lithium-ion batteries the G4e can travel up tp 200 kilometre between charges.

I have to say it looks like EVO is the new king…who would have thought that MIT would upset Subaru…

  • Liam

Why is Subaru styling so awkward?

  • Adam [aka Mada]

Agreed, they have dropped the ball while Mit has got it’s styling mojo back!

  • jbot

Very, very disappointing. Hopefully it is just the colour that makes it look so ordinary. Don’t think so though.

  • Frugal One

    Looks good in white.

How much coin when it gets here?

    Cheers

At least the STi looks way better than the standard WRX. The flared guards give it some sort of muscular stance.

My brother works for a Mitsu dealer and I know the manager of a Subaru dealer, I might have to go take some test drives sometime soon :)

In the end though, the base models will be the real decider of the race between the manufacturers, in that battle I believe the safety of Subaru quality and AWD will win out over the FWD and questionable quality of modern Mitsubishi products.

Anything even remotely related to a Magna/380 has a seriously tarnished bloodline.

  • Adam [aka Mada]

I agree about base models, but the new lancer has surprised many with it’s basic abilities so far, not mention MIT has a very good factory warranty to help out with questions over quality. The impreza also has a higher base price.
I bet the lancer will outsell the impreza overall.

From the B pillar forward, it has to be one of the ugliest cars in recent memory. A mish mash of BMW/Bangle-esq lines, with the aggression of a bonnet scoop, and fog lights from FPV. The wheels also look a bit poor. From the rear, it’s not bad, but no oil painting either. Finally, this is the interior the standard rex should have got, with the sat-nav as an option. Should go like stink though.

Subaru has gone to the dogs!! looks like im buying an evo

  • Azza

I personally think that Mitsu and Subaru have dropped the ball on styling. The Evo X looks like a remastered Alfa Romeo! There’s nothing really good about it. But saying that, there is really nothing all that great about the Impreza WRX STi either. Except the inside of the Impreza is a lot more sturdier looking.

  • Flying High

The STi is a lot better than the standard Rex, but agreed on the outside, Evo has the goods on either version of the Rex.

However, between Suby and Mit, quality is the differentiator. Suby has it. Mit.. well, Mitsushitsi didnt achieve that name because of the good quality of their products put it that way. And with repsect to warranty – just try getting a warranty repair from them and see what happens (not much from personal experience). Then there is resale value…. not on a Mit. It will not hold value. Overall I think the STi will be the better choice.

The other Q – how much will they charge for the vehicles.. the Rex hasnt gone up by much…The Evo is threatening high 60′s which is way over priced.

  • Nick

not the best colour to see the details of the car i have to say…although having a look around various forums…the majority (from what i have seen) seem to like it, there are other photos available, and it looks quite nice in white and silver actually

  • Lachlan

I think that the lancer/evo will be such a better car not to mention the ralliart model!

  • Toyota Paul

Those aernt the the best pics, I think the STi looks comparable to the Evo, both have their downsides really and yeah, many forums are actually getting positive feedback about it.

  • Captain Mainwaring

That Greek so-called stylist idiot who turned his previous Alfa front end upside down stuffed it for Subaru, now they’re struggling to find their way out of the problem. This thing isn’t it. The standard WRX is OK in a mass-market kind of way, but the puffed out wheelarches on this pig make the hero model look like a kit-car.

FUGLY and look at the curves under grille who it sweeps up and down and blends into front side homemade bland wheel arch bulge. The plain small poxy Calais looking driving lights with unaggressive front air intake makes it look ordinary. Then we go to the grille, like Aurion the designers scratch there heads as not sure what to do; so they just put mesh in there and move logo of car maker. Gee it looks nice a bit… but then I think hero car STi and know clearly think FUGLY AS. Looks like the designer got stuck into a mosh pit and then took some drugs and next day recovered and designed this poor excuse of a hero wankers car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://. Colonel Klink

Got more curves on it then Pamela Anderson in her prime. Everyone said the Elantra had too much curves; this car makes the Elantra 1st class as this kindergarten heroes car is FUGLY as! 1ST CLASS FUGLY!

Have to agree with all sentiments on the new STi. I am disappointed. Bring back the pig nose and bring back the sedan.

  • Nige

I think it looks brilliant! Im trying to find a way to get enough money to buy one!! Much Much Much better than the WRX…

  • Jamison

    Not the best photos.

Go to http://www.nihoncar.com and check the photos there.

    Silver, White looks great.

The EVO X’s styling is very nice looking, but its a crossbread R34/Audi front and Alfa Romeo Profile/Back inspired… This Sti with the wide body and pumped guards looks great. It grows on you. Its something different, what you get when Euro meets Japanese styling. Can’t wait to see first hand for a black/white/silver/blue one…

  • Nick

    silver and white FTW!

    i like it

  • http://www.caradvice.com.au George

I’m sold on the silver one – thats not just good looking, its hot, I’d take one in a heartbeat.

Wish they stuck with the foglight covers from the concept, the alloy bars around the foglights look too generic.

  • Sexythang

the top model of the current lancer looks better than the sti.

evox is in another league in style compared to the sti.

  • http://. Colonel Klink

Needs more on front – what about bigger driving lights like in earlier WRX’s. It just looks tooooooooooooooo predictable and boring under headlights in my opinion! Still FUGLY whoever you look at it – makes Mitsubishi an easier choice in a heartbeat!

  • Toyota Paul

Have you checked out the other photos of the Sti Klink? The ones this site have provided are terrible, go the other forums, have a look… it certainly isnt fugly. I personally like it, the Evo is good to, I like them individually on different levels.

  • sti fan

new sti looks the biz.has mo power but less weight-will blow the mitsu into thhe weeds
