Recall for Volvo S80, XC60 and XC70

Volvo Car Australia is recalling just under 500 vehicles equipped with the D5 diesel engine due to a fault with the auxiliary drive belt.

The recall affects 484 vehicles: the 2009 model year S80, XC60 and XC70 with the D5.

The global announcement from Volvo Car Corporation said there was a chance the drive belt could break, rendering the power steering heavy. Investigations have identified early wear on the belt tensioner.

The official recall statement on the Australian Consumer & Competition Commision’s website reads:

“If the deviation occurs the driver may notice noise and in the worst case scenario, it could lead to loss of drive resulting in immobility of the vehicle and loss of power steering assistance.”

Volvo Car Australia is contacting owners of the affected vehicles and is encouraging them to book in to replace both the belt and the belt tensioner.

The recall service should take between 30 minutes and one hour to complete.
