Peugeot 3008 compact SUV Australian debut

By George Skentzos |

Peugeot Australia has announced the official pricing for its new Peugeot 3008 model which is due to arrive in showrooms locally this July.

The Peugeot 3008 compact SUV slots neatly between the 308 hatch and the recently released Peugeot 4007 SUV, presenting an attractive package for those wanting a more unique alternative in the segment.

Each Peugeot dealership around Australia will have just one display model on hand to show customers, with the brand quick to point out demand has exceeded supply virtually from day one since the car was launched in Europe late last year.

Peugeot reports that sales of its 3008 compact SUV have exceeded targets by 30 per cent, spurred on by an array of fuel efficient, EURO 5 emissions compliant engines and advanced features such as Head Up Display.

The Peugeot 3008 features many innovations from the brand including Dynamic Roll Control which addresses the inherent high centre of gravity of SUV architecture by minimising body roll in corners.

An optional Grip Control function acts as an advanced traction control system which enables the 3008 to grip the road in all conditions by optimising the traction of both front wheels.

The Grip Control system features five modes – sealed road, snow, all terrain, sand and ESP-off – and also adds special 16-inch Mud and Snow tyres to enhance traction on challenging surfaces.

Expect a full report on the new Peugeot 3008 in the coming weeks as CarAdvice attends the local launch.

It seems they still asking quite more for the car of this size

    • Shak

When you think about the kit and the supposed Euro name, it is ok value, but not the best.

    • Mythfrances

I agree they seem to ask a bit more. Thats probably why they dont sell that well.

  • alex

Id say the pricing is fairly reasonable! Much better looking than the 4007.

    • nickdl

Most cars are much better looking than a 4007. Renault Koleos starts at $30,990 for the petrol. Diesel is on par with the Peugoeot.

  • Why

Having sat in one a few weeks ago, the rear seat room is poor to say the least. A VW Tiguan is significantly more spacious in the rear. 3008 boot is much bigger than a Tiguan though.

er! look at me! i have braces!

  • Tom22

    Is this a Mitsubishi too?

    • Golfschwein

      No.

  • vrx26

Looks like a dwarf CX7 with a snub nose. Nice features though would be much better if has AWD available to complete it as a pretend SUV.

  • Mal

    Manual diesel would be nice.

    • Bezza

There is one: XSE 1.6 HDi 6-speed manual

      :-)

  • Hjalle

Ive seen it in the flesh and actually sat in one, and personally i find the exterior to be pretty good looking and the front half of the cabin to be a pretty comfortable place to be but the rear seats wherent very impressive…

  • The Oracle

So I gather that this is FWD and AWD isn’t even available as an option. Is it really much roomier or higher driving position than the 308 hatchback? Otherwise I can’t really see the point.

PS George, in the second paragraph you said “a more unique alternative” It’s either unique or it isn’t mate.

  • The Oracle

By the way, what’s with the big glass roof? I assume by the size of it that it is fixed. I hope there is a shade for it, or it would be pretty awful in summer and sometime Euro cars don’t have the air con capacity to cope with our climate and this wouldn’t help. Parts of southern europe can get pretty hot too. Any info on the roof?

    • D

Same as the 308 – full length glass roof with an electric solid blind. It is athermic glass (has a thin sheet of metal embedded in it) which reflects a lot of heat when the blind is open.

With the blind shut, there is no additional heat that I can feel.

      • The Oracle

Thanks. So it seems that the athermic (heat reflecting) glass must be pretty efficient.

      • Golfschwein

Is this what Peugeot, Citroen and Renault (and other Euros) use in their windscreens also? My polarizer sunglasses make it look like these cars have solid purple windscreens, but the effect disappears when I look over the top of my specs.

  • upgrade 207 gt

I think it looks great – will def take a look at one. The interior looks superb. Although the glass roof in my GT is great in cooler months, it turns out to be an oven if the roof blind is left open in summer. Even parked in the sun with the blind closed the heat comes straight through the blind – I hope they have a better blind in the 3008. Will check it out.

  • Vibe

Looks pretty good. And with the pricing, it’s not that much more, if not the same as multiple SUV’s etc.

  • Dak

Drove the 2.0 HDi automatic 6sp XTE model. The car has headup display can manual open or retract(auto retracts when car locked) , leather seat (heated), glass roof, rear passenger door window blinds, auto fold side mirrors.
I have more dislike than like (as per below) esp the spare wheel thing, but the driving comfort is pretty good. Price I think is maybe a little bit pricy. Not as functional as 308 touring.

    My thoughts.
    LIKE:
    – Higher seat position.
    – Lighter steering weight than 308.
    – Head up display.
    – Split tail gate.
    – Interior & exterior looks good.

    DISLIKE:
    – No spare wheel for XTE model with 18″ you are given those pump and glue for emergency, XSE 17″ comes with space saver tire.
    – No centre console side pockets as seen on photo on net.
    – Glove box again is useless. I think almost as bad as on 308.
    – Centre console armrest storage cover (I just dont get why they dont swap it over to suit right hand drive version) opens as per Left hand drive version. Now open from the passenger side, so if you drive alone want to plug USB, you have to lean over to plug it.
    – Hard to explain this one but bear with me. Automatic gearbox surround cover plate (the gearstick surround cover that shows you where to shift) is assembled under the centre console, and this plate moves (loose) as you shift gears. I do not know why they dont assemble it rigidly/solidly to the centre console.
    – Gear graphics on the surround plate need to get use to as the gearstick is not directly next to the wording. (meaning you shift to R, the gearstick is not directly next to it, is a bit diagonally lower)
    – Driver foot rest (my opinion) seems not comfortable as it seems too close to the driver.
    – Rear floor carpet does not fix into position and so it slides around.
    – Rear seat seating position is not as bad as read from some review, but lacking the tilt adjustment to the 308 touring.
    – I dont appreciate the storage compartments. Generally they are too small for anything.
    – Same as 308 touring I drove (is a Peugeot thing) I could not get into a steering/seating position comfortably to be able to view the entire display dials through the steering wheel. There will always be part(mostly the top section) of the dials blocked by the steering wheel rim.
    – Brochure at the moment does not tell you a lot about the car.
