Superlap 2010 World Time Attack Challenge – Day 2

It's day two of the Superlap 2010 World Time Attack Challenge here at Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney's west and it's clear that today is all for the fans.

While the usual big hitters are still etching away at their lap times - more on that soon - the big attractions are the drifters, stunt bikes and scantly clad promo girls.

This is good news for the Time Attack teams that have used the down time to hone their cars following yesterdays performance, with the previous best time of 1:32.248 now only good for fourth place.

Finally making an appearance on the grid this morning was the Fernandez Motorsport Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo entry which was a no-show for yesterday's session due to diff and brake issues.

Built to V8 Supercar specifications, the Fernandez entry swaps out the usual V8 powerplant for a turbocharged straight-six engine which punches out more than 550kW at the rear treads, running through a Holinger sequential 6 speed gearbox.

It is likely to be Australia's best chance of seeing an locally-built model on the winners podium, although it currently stands in 16th place with a best lap of 1:40.217.

With half a day of racing still to come, the Cyber Evo is in first place with a time of 1:30.587 piloted by 'Tarzan' Yamada followed by the Sierra Sierra Evo with a time of 1:31.884 and the Tomei/Cusco WRX (1:31.901) which gives Tarzan two spots in the top three.
