Target 2020 – can you design the car of the future?

VACC is calling for entries in this year’s Target 2020 Future Car Competition.

The three categories are: Build a model, Drawing and Design, and Essay with all secondary and tertiary students in Victoria invited to enter by the closing date, Wednesday June 30, 2010.

There are prizes for the winners, with the Model-Making and the Drawing & Design category winners winning $3,000 for themselves and $3,000 for their school, college or university while winners of the Essay competition will pocket $500 for their efforts and $500 for their school, college or university.

VACC Senior Manager, David Russell says the competition is an opportunity for winners to get their foot in the door of the automotive industry.

Previous winners of Target 2020 have gone on to have successful careers in the automotive design industry. We know of students who have worked for Holden and Ford as a direct result of entering this industry recognised event. It is a great opportunity for the next generation of designers to show-case their talent,” Russell says.

David Russell says the ongoing success and high caliber from the entries received in Target 2020 Competition has meant the standard of what is expected from participants has been raised.

“Every year we are bowled over by how good the concepts are. The imagination is impressive, as is the attention to detail. We have received several entries already and it is clear students have a high degree of technical knowledge and are environmentally aware. We look forward to receiving more entries before the June 30 deadline,” Russell says.

Target 2020 entry forms can be downloaded from www.target2020.com.au.
