Hyundai Genesis ‘Top Safety Pick’

Hyundai can add another accolade to its trophy cabinet with the award winning Hyundai Genesis sedan picking up Top Safety Pick from the USA’s Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The award which is issued by IIHS recognises vehicles that earn the top rating of 'good' across the board for front, side, rollover, and rear crash protection.

The vehicle also must have Electronic Stability Control (ESC) standard to win the Top Safety Pick award.

Winning back-to-back Top Safety Pick awards for the Genesis was no easy task for Hyundai second time around, with the IIHS raising standards even higher this year.

Added to the procedures this year was a roof strength test, where the entrant’s roof was required to withstand twice the strength of current US federal requirements in the event of a rollover accident.

The Genesis came out on top in the institute's crashworthiness evaluations based on results from a 64kph frontal, 32kph rear and 50kph side evaluation tests.

Hyundai Genesis also took out (alongside Mercedes-Benz E-Class) honours in the 'Large Car Segment' for 2010.

The current generation Hyundai Genesis will not be coming to Australia as the model is only manufactured in left-hand drive. Nonetheless the Hyundai i45 will be launched later this week.
