Porsche 997.2 GT2 RS almost ready

How do you make the fastest most powerful Porsche not only quicker, but better? Answer: Two little letters, RS.

Rumours surrounding the new model, include a revised 3.6-litre engine producing more than 460kw and a reduced kerb weight of almost 100kg, thanks to the extensive use of lightweight materials.

From the photos it’s easy to see some of GT2's weight saving efforts, which include a Carbon Fibre Bonnet, Carbon Fibre Air intakes and Racing seats to match.

We can also see the interior, Porsche have removed the conventional door handles in favour of simple style pull straps, a feature normally only seen in race or track models such as the GT3 family.

With the release of this new model, Porsche is set for full-scale battle at the Nurburgring in the test, which is fast becoming the benchmark for supercars.

Rumours indicate that the RS will lap the ‘Ring’ in just 7m 22sec, which is not only astonishingly quick but will make it faster than the Porsche Carrera GT hypercar.

The 997.2 GT2 RS is expected to debut at the Paris Motorshow in October and will only be available to 300 cashed-up and lucky buyers.

Expect to pay a heavy premium for what will surely become another Iconic car for the Porsche brand.
