2012 BMW 1 Series M shows off its quad exhausts

By George Skentzos |

Any doubt that BMW’s M Division was in fact tuning the BMW 1 Series Coupe can now be laid to rest, with this latest batch of spy photos proving the prototype certainly belongs in the M stable.

In case the massively flared wheel arches, huge brake kit and enormous wheels weren’t enough to convince you, the trademark M Division quad-exhaust pipes can now been seen clearly amongst the camouflage at the rear.

As we take a closer look underneath the car we can also see the limited slip differential sitting between the enormously wide rubber – the cooling fins a dead giveaway.

No matter what name the eventual production model goes by – M1, 1 Series M, tii – this latest addition to the M line-up is sure to be one potent little pocket rocket, and just in time to play with the upcoming Audi RS3 super hatch.

BEAUTIFUL! And should be a hoot to drive if the 135i is anything to go by…

  • Jester

Shame about those ugly front headlights, simply too big for the small car, otherwise the car is unreal.

  • Valet Dabess

they should just update the 1 series instead of wasting money on making a m version

    • Radbloke

      You, sir, have no soul.

    • Jimmy

He may have no soul, but I can’t wait to see the next 1 series.

      • DDH

yeah its too girly cute looking, it needs a macho update

  • Devil666

I really want to like the 1 series but the looks are too polarising: the bootlid, taillights, headlights, flame surfaced side profile. How could they go so right with the 3 coupe and so wrong with the 1 coupe.

    • Jimmy

Disagree completely, I think BMW deserve some credit here. The sedan incarnation has only been around for about 3 years but the the 1 series hatch has been around since ’04 (and I guess the design process normally starts around 2-3 years prior to production as well). So we’re talking close to a 9 year old design here, and I for one reckon it holds its age pretty damn well. I think the 1 series’ proportions are bang-on and the 135i has got to be the best value sports car on the market today for what you get. Can’t wait to see the M version.

        er sedan? Coupe perhaps.

        • Jimmy

          Indeed.

I’ll be interested to see the final spec of this car. I love the 135i. Give me one in white with a manual gearbox and dark tinted windows..

If it’s being made to play with the Audi RS3 it’s going to have to be a damn good package. RS3 will get the 250kw 450nm Audi TTRS which is currently propelling the TTRS to near supercar rivalling acceleration times.

The car world just keeps getting better, too bad my pay isn’t rising at a rate i can take advantage of it..

    +++++1 Radbloke, would read again!

When my current 3 series is coming up for replacement, I can see this sitting in my garage. Lovely.

  • dasferg

As the owner of a 135i, there is no doubt this car addresses many of the shortfall of the 135i. – diff, real tyre etc, but I bet it is a $125,000 proposition (plus BMW extras) and it is based on a car due for replacement in the next 18 months. Still, wouldn’t say no if someone gave it to me!

  • Mythfrances

1 series is just too small…fit 2 ppl perfectly, but no more than that

    • Bezza

Have you considered that maybe that is all it is designed to do?

Maybe what you are after is a 3 or 5 series…

      :-)

  • adam77

Pocket rocket to compete with the Evo and rex.

    • The Realist

Evo and Rex in Oz are in a different bracket.
