New Ford Falcon XR Range

In an effort to boost sales before the arrival of the all-new Ford Falcon Orion, Ford Australia today announced a fresh look for the Falcon XR Sedan range as well as a new limited edition Falcon XR Ute pack.

New Ford Falcon XR Range

Set for public display at next week’s Australian International Motor Show in Sydney, the new XR sedans get a new bodykit and revised exterior mirror treatment, while the six-speed auto XR6 and all XR6 Turbo and XR8 sedan models get new alloy wheels.

The new look Falcon XR sedan is the most significant upgrade to the exterior design of the performance XR models since BF Falcon was introduced,” Ford Australia Vice President Marketing and Sales Mark Winslow said.

Although a little hard to notice at first, from the front the new bodykit features a modified bumper with new mini rockers on each side.

The rear bumper also receives all-new side rockers and a new insert. The mirror scalps also get a fresh look, with all exterior updates finished in “high-gloss Dark Argent” accent colour.

“With its powerful and distinctive quad-headlight signature, the Falcon XR continues to have an unmistakeable road presence, while the new bodykit and individual paint treatments are sure to make the XR sedan stand out from the pack even further.” Winslow continued.

Apart from the manual/four-speed auto XR6, all other XR models receive updated five-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels finished in a high-gloss Mid Argent paint colour with a machined face, along with a matching Mid Argent wheel centre cap. The new wheels compliment the updated bodykit and are available as an option on the lower-level XR6 models.

The new updated XR range will hit Ford dealerships by mid-November. Prices are as follows:

  • XR6 six-speed manual 37,990
  • XR6 four-speed auto 37,990
  • XR6 six-speed auto 39,990
  • XR6 Turbo six-speed manual 42,990
  • XR6 Turbo six-auto 44,990
  • XR8 six-manual 43,990
  • XR8 six-auto 45,490

I have never been a fan of the ‘mid life’ facelift. They always seem to ruin the original cars clean lines. As a ford fan, I still think the original BA shape looks better than all the subsequent facelifts.

this is more like a “OMG PLEASE KEEP SELLLING” facelift, this shape is long past its due by date.

Wait for the all-new falcon next year I’d say.

On the bright side, its one good looking mid-life crisis.

Love the wheels too, the flares on the front bar look a bit odd though.

This new styling on the Xr range is a great addition by ford. we all know they have released it due to decreased sales attributed to the VE’s success but the XRs still represent great value for money with DSC, traction control, and the one thing that the VE is lacking…a torquey strong aussie I6 in the XR6 and Turbo. For those that consider themselves car enthusiasts, this model sets you more apart from the standard XT and emanates a much more menacing intention with striking styling and a hot set of wheels that need no aftermarket attention. This should prove a great way to bide time until the Orion launch next year….and hopefully is a hint of a more sporty looking XR lineup in the future

Still a fantastic buy, this model represents refinement and quality at its best, most successful falcon shape yet, puts a smile on my face every time I see one..

Why on earth would you get the 4-speed auto in XR6 when the ZF 6-speed is an ectra $2000?

My mates BF XR6 sedan has the ZF, it is an awesome box. Can’t praise it enough.

It’s true, facelifted vehicles do tend to not look as good as the original. It’s because the companies are like “WE ARE LOSING SALES SO WE MUST MAKE OUR CAR STAND OUT WITH UGLY BITS TO TRY AND ATTRACT MORE SALES”

I’m not a fan of the wheel treatment on the this car, at least in these photos. Could look better in real life though.

ford did exactlly the same thing with the end of the AU XR8’s. they did the rebel version and the distinguishing features were highlights to the body kit just like they have done to the BF’s now.
i reckon the rebels (mid life crisis) actually looked a hell of a lot better than the original. this no doubt will look much better in the flesh too. i reckon it would have been finished off a bit better if the inserts next to the fog lights were a grey “accent” aswell.

hey Alborz were is the info on the limited utes?

Love those XR6s especially when no other 6 cylinder matches Fords 4 litre. These new 2008 XRs are gonna humiliate all the other competitors like Ford has been doin for decades. I own a 2003 BA XR6 with a 5 speed and I think I have to trade my XR6 in for one of these new 2008 models. Ford Falcon is still the best and will still continue on its reign as the superior aussie car.

I’ve just got one. 6sp auto, 18 x 8’s, dual zone etc in Lightning Strike as above. May have looked better in Silk or Ego to match the wheels. Anyway I’m rapt in it.

Goes like stink, can’t beat a long stoke torquey engine over a WAY to over square 3.6l high revving v6 as in the commadore. I’ve just come out of a VZ SV6 so I’ve driven both.

I can’t believe the GM engineers would produce a engine so over square that makes it max kw @ 6500rpm, crazy. What mum and pop’s are going to rev a street car to those numbers. Besides it didn’t sound right.

Fair enough the VZ went, from beyond about 4000rpm, but you dont need to rev the Ford beyond 3000rpm. The auto is a joy, but I would like to see a lower ist and the ratios spaced evenly up to the current 6th. 4th and beyond is a waste of FUN.
The S mode or the S Sequential manual shift mode is good. You dont have to take it passed 4000rpm, you will go fine. Leaving it in D or S the box will change at 5500rpm if floored, to high in nmy opinion as max kW is at 5250rpm.
A friend took me for a spin in his wifes Force 6, [yeah wife] and he couldn’t change it quick enough. You need to think about it at 4500rpm it gets up there so quick.
Anyway back to reality. I would of liked at least the XR6T, great bang for the buck.

I’ve owned 3 new Fords ‘94 ED Classic Wagon.
‘98 EL Futura Saphire II, Lowered springs, coils adjustable Konis, rear sway bar, XR8 16 x 7.5 wheels, full EF XR8 wagon body kit & rear wing.
And now the BF II XR6 as above. The only option I got was the ipod/MP3 port which is great.
I’ve added the Typhoon top air intake snorkel and the bottom typhoon cold air induction snorkel, that gets the air from underneath the headlight. Fitted a K&N panel filter and the Lt/100k’s dropped by 3.
Next goes in a Tridon thermostat and a few other well knowen mods. You can do quite a bit to these engines with bolt ons etc to make over 200kw.
    Can’t wait for the Orion.

Is it possible to have Ford or an aftermarket mob re-map the gearchanges in the ZF6 to suit a customer?

  16. Oz. Says:

Not sure, not by Ford. More likley aftermarket, but I’m not sure as I don’t mod cars so I can be wrong.

I saw 2 of these Falcon XRs with the new bodykit today. A “seduce” red XR8 and the back end of another with “Lightning Strike” silver. I’ve never seen 2 in 1 day before.

Hey Mike, any pics you could e-mail? I’m close to buying one of the new kitted XR’s but cant find many in the flesh.

does anyone know what other features this came with?

    ie. DSC, premium sound, etc.?
