Volvo adds new diesels to UK line-up, Australian launch under assessment
Volvo Cars UK has revealed its new engine line-up for 2010 with a new 2.0-litre five-cylinder diesel and a T6 petrol unit boasting more power among the highlights.
The new 2.0-litre diesel is, in essence, the same engine as the outgoing 2.4-litre unit but its displacement has been reduced with a shorter stroke to improve fuel consumption.
First seen in the S60, the new five-cylinder engine is now available across the entire range.
The C30, S40, V50 and C70 get two tunes of the powerplant: the 110kW D3 and the 130kW D4. Both emit 134g/km CO2 and use just 5.1 litres/100km in the C30, S40 and V50 and 154g/km and 5.9 litres/100km in the C70.
The S80, V70, XC70 and XC60 get a 120kW version of the 2.0D which puts out 400Nm of torque. The D5 twin-turbo diesel and T6 petrol engines remain in the line-ups with emissions from the D5 falling from 183g/km to 174g/km and power from the T6 up to 224kW and 440Nm.
The C30, S40 and V50 are also available with a new 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, known as the D2. Producing 85kW and 270Nm, the D2 consumes just 4.3 litres/100km and emits 114g/km CO2 in all three models.
The 1.6D DRIVe engine and the 1.6, 2.0 and T5 petrol engines remain in the line-up while the 2.4i and D5 are no longer available.
All the new and upgraded engines are available to order now in the UK and select European markets.
Volvo Australia’s Laurissa Mirabelli said the upgrades are currently being assessed for the local range, with 2011 seemingly the earliest we could expect the new engines Down Under.
“We’re still going through certification details for Australia and we won’t be announcing them until later this year,” she said.
