Ford Fiesta S1600 special edition launched in UK

By Matt Brogan |

Ford has launched its Fiesta S1600 sports model in the UK this week.

Based on the Fiesta Zetec S, the Ford Fiesta S1600 includes such features as alloy pedals, Quickclear windscreen, heated leather sports seats, side airbags, leather wrapped steering wheel, handbrake cover and gear knob plus branded floor mats and scuff plates.

On the outside, the Fiesta S1600 adds a body-styling kit, including a revised front bumper bar, flared lower valence panel, side skirts, large rear spoiler and rear diffuser. A special paint finish in Forzen White or Performance Blue is offered with contrasting racing stripes. 17-inch alloy wheels are included as standard on petrol models with diesel models scoring 16-inch alloy wheels.

Engine choices include Ford’s 1.6-litre (88kW) four-cylinder petrol unit, as found on Australian manual Fiesta models, or a 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi engine, now with 70kW of power.

For performance enthusiasts, a further engine upgrade package will be offered via Ford’s established performance tuning partner, Mountune.

Fiesta S1600 continues a 30-year sporting Fiesta lineage that began with the Fiesta Mk1 XR2 in 1981 and has included Supersport, XR2(i), Si, RS and ST models.

“Since its introduction, Fiesta and sporting pedigree have never been far apart and the latest incarnation of that is S1600, bringing extra motorsport feel to the award-winning Fiesta style and driving quality,” said Gill Palmer, Ford of Britain’s Fiesta Product Manager.

The Ford Fiesta S1600 is a limited edition model restricted to a production run of just 650 models. On-road pricing starts at £16,665 (AUD$27,650).

What exactly is a Quickclear windscreen? Obviously it clears something quickly, but is it rain or fog?

    • Bob

internal heating elements inside the front windscreen to help de-ice and de-fog on cold mornings. AWESOME feature if you live in a cold market.

      search Quickclear on Wikipedia.

Can’t wait for Ford to announce the arrival of the Fiesta ST (XR4 in Oz). If it’s going to be anything like the superceded one, it’ll be a screamer!

    • Andronicus

Yes, same here. And when they do, that will be the day I walk in to Ford dealership and hand over my cash.
Has it been confirmed for Oz?

      • Damian

I don’t think the Fiesta ST has even been announced for the European market yet. I am hoping that the new ST will come with a small capacity Ecoboost engine, which would definitely add some low end grunt to what should be a sub 1150kg vehicle. Knowing Ford, they’ll probably recycle the old 2.0L N/A Duratec boat anchor.

        • My Cars Called T-Rex

I heard is going to get a 135kw ecoboost 2.0?should slap a polo around.Has anyone else heard this.

          • Damian

If that’s true, the Fiesta ST will be the king of the “super-mini” class! I don’t know what the impending Polo GTI will pack – maybe a small capacity (sub 1.5L twin-charge)?

            I can’t wait!

  • Technofreak

I love the car…but I cannot accept the stupid name!! Fiesta!? WTF! LOL.

I thought they would have dropped it by now…we almost bought one but the girl said she could not drive a car called a Fiesta…oh well.

    • Numb1er

De-badge it then, dont care if it was called a willie wonker, still an a-class car in the small car segment

    • Leon

Why? Whats wrong with this name “Fiesta”? Or you prefer “Festiva”, maybe…?

    • Rhys

The name has been around for over 30 years and so Ford has made it a world name as the car has become a world car. The name is still actually a modern name for a car considering it’s age.

    • Valet Dabess

it’s not like you can give it an extreme name like razor blade

    • Minnow

If thats the only reason why she wouldnt take a new car from mum and dad, her life must be pretty much perfect.

    • Mk

      Escort perhaps?

      • Bob

Who, his missus or the car? ;)

  • Aim

Fiesta is an awesome name it has been with ford for decades, we are not used to it because of its rebadged kia (festiva),

Why dont we get stuff like that here… just because down under, do we have to be so screwed over in the car industry i mean cmon

    • Joe

Aim, we do get this car here. And we got it before the Pom’s. It is called the Fiesta Zetec 3 door. The only drawback is that we don’t get the diesel version and the stripes are a Dealer fitted accessory and not Factory fitted(like the Focus XR5T). The Zetec gets 16in alloys as standard with the same 17in alloys as a Dealer fitted option and the sports pedals, handbrake cover, scuff plates etc. available as Dealer fitted accessories.

The only item not readily available is the leather trimmed seats but these can be done locally by many reputable companies.

Best news is that the Zetec only costs about $24,000 drive away and even when fitted with the same gear as the Pom version it would still be only around $28,000 or so.

If the Pom version is plus on road costs? ours would be around $4000 cheaper. Imagine that cheaper here than in the UK.

      • Rhys

Joe, The UK model designation is setup totally different to the Australian model designation. The UK did get the Zetec model when it was launched before Australia however in the UK there are varying grades within the Zetec range. This is not equal to Australia’s Zetec since all our models and equipment levels differ to the UK.

        • Clueless

The reason why Ford Australia is struggling to get enough FIesta stock is because the Fiesta sells for more money in Europe than here in Australia. And oh in March 68,600 Fiesta’s were sold in Europe alone…. Not bad!!!!!!! Fiesta is number 1 in Europe!!!! Go Ford

  • Gary

Quickclear is ford’s heated windscreen technology/brand name

  • Shak

If that graphic down the side were incorporated into the bodywork as a shoulder line for the next gen/update, i reckon it would add a nice bit or mongrel to the look of the car.

  • http://carAdvice The Salesman

I did not think any one would ever again put white wheels on a white car. Last time I remember this combo was 1980 something. Nissan Pulsar SSS I think? But hey IT WORKS!!!!

  • freddo

This thing is RUBBISH! I redkon you would have to wear white track-suit pants to drive one of these…trash

    • http://www.caradvice.com Macs for me

It might be rubbish, although I seriously doubt that, but you cant spell, last time I looked reckon wasn’t spelt with a “d” in it.

So like your opinion, go away

      • freddo

If you have nothing better to do but pick on spelling you really need to get a life. You may notice that d is right above c….but I suppose your not a touch typer…who really gives a f*** anyway.
The point was that this is a chav mobile….and Im intitled to my opinion.

        • http://www.caradvice.com Macs for me

          A tosser with excuses

          • Bob

I think he meant to write fudk but accidentally typed a “c”

  • Joe

Hi Rhys, I take your point about the different spec of UK Fiesta’s vs Aussie spec Fiesta’s but my point is that up until this 1600S model Fiesta the UK Fiesta did not come with a Body Kit and ours did. When you compare the 2 cars feature for feature (1600S vs Aussie Zetec)the only real differences are as I mentioned previously,17in wheels, leather etc..

By the way the Aussie spec Mondeo got the body kit on the XR5 model 18 months before it was available as standard on the UK Titanium models.

It seems that Ford have been testing these body kits on us Aussies before unleashing them on the unsuspecting Poms.

  • Joel

mmmm i’ve been waiting 4 this!
ford oz is gonna stop xr5 turbo’s so i hope we still get this.

  • Joel

they will probably ignore it like they did with the focus RS
