2010 Volkswagen Polo spy photos, spotted in Sydney this morning

By Matt Brogan |

An eagle-eyed CarAdvice reader has spotted the new 2010 Volkswagen Golf parked in a suburban Sydney street this morning.

The car, which appears to be a base model three-door, if the plastic wheel trims are anything to go by, shows the latest Volkswagen styling cues, as recently seen on Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen Transporter models, have now found their way to the brand’s smaller offering.

The all-new Polo, which recently won European Car of the Year, is available overseas with a choice of six engines, ranging from 44 to 77kw, two body styles and three model grades. The lineup also includes Polo BlueMotion, an ultra-fuel efficient 55kW diesel variant, and high-powered Polo GTI version.

At this point, it is believed Volkswagen Australia will offer the Polo in three guises: the 1.4-litre naturally aspirated 63FSI Trendline, 1.2-litre turbocharged 77TSI Comfortline and 1.6-litre turbo-diesel 66TDI Comfortline (with power output matching their names). Daytime running lights will be optional across the range.

The 2010 Volkswagen will be released in Australia on May 6th. CarAdvice will bring you a First Steer directly following the launch. Stay tuned.

Priced right and this will concour the market.

    • David

      Or conquer it even.

    • Mk

      Sorry, third language.

    • jimmy

I reckon it will too. It’s a nice looking vehicle.

  • john

Is this a three door GOLF or a three door POLO.?

    • filippo

I got excited for a second there, thinking that VW were finally importing 3-door Golfs (besides the expensive models). Alas, no; it’s a Polo. In Europe this model has been out for ages.

    • Frosty

Why all the negative clicks to the post. I do know that it is obviously a Polo but the first paragraph does actually say the new 2010 Golf.

Quote “An eagle-eyed CarAdvice reader has spotted the new 2010 Volkswagen Golf parked in a suburban Sydney street this morning.”

    • Jon

      Definitely 3 door POLO

  • davie

maybe its the angle, but it seems a very similar size to the golf.

I agree that it will do very well if priced properly. Lets see how greedy VW get.

  • Able

Finally it’s here! Been out in NZ for four months…

    • Leon

Polo has been on sale in NZ since September last year! 7 months has passed.

      • Able

Lol I knew it was a high number, but forgot it…

  • bert b

Just another HIGHLY overrated VW product!

    • Able

What would you suggest instead of a Polo? A Fiesta? Yeah I can see that too, but Polo and Fiesta are at the top of their class (meaning they’re not overrated)! I HATE Golfs but…

    • ABMPSV

Just an info for you. 2010 WORLD CAR OF THE YEAR VOLKSWAGEN POLO DECLARED.

  • Shak

IMO it looks beter than the Golf and would probably be better value. And the GTI is pretty much line ball with the Golf GTI. At least we can see what it looks like in Sydney now…

    • jimmy

Don’t know about the Golf and Polo GTI’s being lineball…? But – I’d have to agree that the new Polo is a more handsome car than the Golf. It’s definitely more stylish. I want one.

      • Philthy

The new DSG golf and polo GTI’s have the same quoted 0-100 time (6.9s).

Not sure about the rest of the package, handling etc, but time will tell.

  • Ben Larder

Are you guys ( Car Advice) on drugs? I’ve een them for the past 2 weeks lol

    • KM

      I second that!

They are everywhere around the east!

      • AW

I third that. I’ve seen about 3 so far.

  • kevbo

not just the east, spotted a silver 5dr model in sutherland.

  • ABMPSV

I hope will get the 1.2TSI 77kW DSG and 1.6 66kW TDI DSG. Both engine are excellent choice.

    • Golfschwein

      HEY THAT’S GR8 CAN I HAV SUM

    • JooberGTi

Stuff the Polo lets get some Raybans!!!

  • TK

Finally. Why does it take ages for Oz to get new models? The Polo has been selling for months in South Africa. The new Citroen C3 is also available over there . Why do we have to put up with the older models way past their expiration date?!!

    • Hendrik

Its based on the local brand’s or importer’s decisions..

Timing is important too, you don’t want to the launch the Polo and Golf at too similar intervals or at a time that would overlap another significant small vehicle’s release.

      …Or they are just wanks

  • JooberGTi

Nice, havent seem them at all in Melbourne, though today saw the MIEV on the road, Can’t wait for the Polo GTi to come out.

  • Don

I seriously hope this car sells over 1000 unit a month, it definitely deserves to outsell the mediocre Barina and Getz.

    • http://ford vid_ghost

your joking right? you can buy two barina’s or two Getz for the price of one of these! money talks my friend and so long as VW have a starting price for the Polo of $22k drive away then people wont be buying 1000 a month.
Heck i was even quoted $22k drive away for a new Mazda3 and thats not a bad buy at all.. I really like this new polo and cant wait to test drive one. as i’m in the market for a car like this.

      • noj

Why would you want 2 Barina`s or 2 Getz? Neither car is half the Polo so what made you think they 2 could equal one.

  • geegee

I saw a yellow one about three weeks ago in Rozelle

    • Jeff

I saw a yellow 3dr at Paddington last night. Perhaps the same car.

  • Ben Larder

    lol, another Car Advice Exclusive.

  • Tim

“An eagle-eyed CarAdvice reader has spotted the new 2010 Volkswagen Golf parked in a suburban…………..”

    I think you mean Polo.

  • Neo Utopia

I’m pretty sure Volkswagen improved the durability in this generation to match the Yarris, Jazz, 2 etc, well time will only tell. But on the design front I think the ergonomics of this car is brilliant, combine this with the quality materials and ultra efficient engines and VW better have enough to meet demand, otherwise people will may just buy elsewhere on default. Price will definitely have to be no more than 25% above similar and cheaper-priced eastern competitors to sell well though.

  • sx1

Hey I saw it this morning on Geroge st Martin place. I am 90% sure this was it, red color. Didn’t turn my head to see the rear lights though(which would have confirmed it, as I can’t tell the diff from the front), would have looked stupid. What? Why’s he looking at that golf?

  • James

I’m sure VW will gouge our wallets on this sadly as they do with their other models. Wish they could be more price ompetitive as they are in other markets. Why do we always have to be ripped off… If only the safety standards around the world were more consistent and we could parallel import the same product ;-)

  • Able

I saw a silver 5-door in Balmain this morning, looks alright. Defs needs the bigger wheels however…

  • nothanks

I would not buy it regardless of price as most VW cars are not reliable. It is proven fact…

    • ABMPSV

Where you get this information?? What is your source???

      • nothanks

According to JD Power Quality Survey..

        • Golfschwein

OMGF, it MUST be true! ROFL! LMAO! WAW!

        • ABMPSV

Which JD Power?? According to ADAC in Germany Golf is better than Corolla, Mazda 3, Megana, Astra, Focus, Civic and 307. Source: Adac 2008 brakdown statistics

          • F1MotoGP

            In England JD Power Owner Satisfaction 2009 – Small family cars 1: Skoda Octavia, 2: Honda Civic, 3: Toyota Corolla , 4: Mercedes-Benz A-Class, 5: Volkswagen Golf…etc.

          • Shak

never take reliability surveys from another country. Servicing costs and purchase costs differ, as does quality of servicing. In Oz VW servicing is higher than most other countries.

        • fabs

JD Power surveys would cover cars available in USA right? VW’s in USA are made in Mexico if I remember correctly and I think that is why they have poor reliability. I think South African WV’s are probably not the best either but the German made VW’s such as current model Golf should have pretty decent reliability. Sorry no references to back up my wild claims so take my comments as my own biased opinion rather than as fact.

    • nothanks

Hey guys..Look at “JD Power’s 2010 Vehicle Dependability Survey” VW ranked 34th out of 36th..End of Story

      • F1MotoGP

I think we all can look all sort of survey and if you car is dead last but never breaks down you are a HAPPY owner of that car.

  • Frank

    This is the new Golf!

    • Matt

      Polo

  • Hung Low

Wow, wheel covers on this overpriced shoe box!
Lucky the cosmetic bag and Tiara are a no cost option!
Like the potential owners, this car is Mutton dressed as Lamb!

    • Matt

Given your screen name, I think we can take this as obvious trolling.

  • http://www.nonstopcars.com Non Stop Cars

I think it looks good, and consistent with my living. Salaries this month I intend to buy it.

  • franz chong

Definetly NOT A TIIDA if you are in the market for this class of car is something I would recommend. The only thing the Nissan has going for it in the st Specification is 4 airbags, cruise control on the automatic models,a new grille and lights and updated interior and minor changes in their series 3 and of course the fact it is a 1.8.A better alternative would be a Lancer or Mazda 3.
