Just a note to our loyal readers, our website is about to undergo major updates in the next 24 hours.
This will result in an all-new look and feel for CarAdvice and the start of a new era for us.
There may be some initial complications and minor issues (e.g. some very recent comments may be lost), but these issues will be rectified throughout the day.
Thank you for your patience.
Alborz.

Looks good.
Looks great, guys. Can’t wait to see it in action!
It looks like a few late nights were invested in the new look & feel, and it’s turned out very sleek.
I have my fingers crossed that you’ll offer the ability to subscribe to the comments of a particular article.
Hi Foggy thanks for the suggestion
I didnt realize this was a desired feature,
I’ll be sure to have that implemented in the next few weeks,
any other ideas guys, keep them coming..
as for the late nights, u can say that, but thankfully thats what webdesigners are for!
I guess where still not able to start our own blogs on a car chat page like F/Forums yet though ?
Oh and I didn’t know you could have some free advertising of your own web sites when you post !
Hi Bavarian,
interesting idea,
will investigate.
and what advertising! :)
Should make it so you have to register for comments…. not only would it stop certain undesirables from coming along but also mean you can edit your comments!!!
Ohhhhhhhh look Van has removed it,and changed his name !
I am with you Paul ,its bloody annoying when that happens.
Looks fantastic.
I wouldn’t mind a forum where we can talk about car topics, rather than wait for such a topic to arise in the news.
The old site already looks pretty good. But the new one looks heaps better. Good job guys. Yeh i agree a forum would be a great addition to this already awesome website.
What ever you do just keep it simple as it is now. I love logging on every day get my quick dose of caradvice without reading through endless forums with a million opinions and topics.
I forgot to mention, new site looks the goods.
Thanks guys
as for the forum, the issue is public liability, we are waiting for the court case between Whirlpool Forums and 2clix to finish (2clix suing whirlpool for something their readers said in their forums) so I know if the Supreme court is going to rule in favour of whirlpool or not.
If it goes WPs way, we will have a Forum
Hmm hopefully a forum does eventuate then. I think it would be wise to keep the commenting system (with edit hopefulyl) to attract all different people to the site while a forum can be used for those who have abit more interest and who have to register for… would also give some ideas to the caradvice crew on what people want to know about in terms of reviews etc rather than jus as said, having to comment on articles chosen.
A couple more suggestions for improvements:
1. Every post should identify the Author/Reporter.
2. Comments and/or comment posting names from CarAdvice staff should be differentiated/identified in some way. e.g. Anthony (CarAdvice) said:
The current site is great, great to get around and read all sorts of stuff and the new one looks the bees knees and slick! Maybe have history also of famous Aussie drivers and history of races gone by as there was some memorable people and being a Ford fan must say Mr Cool Peter Brock and others like Alan Moffat, Dickt Johnson should have there heritage and deeds up on this site!!!
Should have people definetly register for comments as many people appear to be doubling up by changing NAME on this site. One feature would be sure to have EDIT, but also SPELLCHECK in the comment section as well as the facility to BOLD, UNDERLINE and ITALIC. That is all I would do. Maybe ad features like EMOTION ICONS too. I do not think you will eliminate swearing and what nots, it is bound to happen.
The reviews are great and I think if people who visit the site ask for something comparo wise or what not, then caradvice should be in touch with its visitors by offering views, writeups, comparos, etc.
Thanks guys,
foggy
1. this will be done
2. this will also be done (may take longer)
colonel
spellcheck, use FireFox 2, it has a built in spell checker :) but I will see about a rich text editor for the comments, although people will abuse it with massive text and emoticons.
guys as for registering to comment, it will leave many people who visit the site infrequently without a say, initially the site was ran like that but after we changed it, comments became much more popular..
Will discuss this with the team.
thanks again for all the suggestions.
Yeah about registering I agree, I think keep the comments as is hopefully with edit function etc so everyone can have a say… but have a seperate forum that people must register for, not only letting people talk about other things (rather then sidetracking during comments) and also giving you guys (caradvice) ideas on what people are interested in. Win-Win.
Looking forward to new look :D
very nice!! :)
A mediator to stop all the swearing that goes on to would be good .So if we were to get our own passwords to click on are we then able to send private messages to each other like other sites ? Also what about info on the people that are posting, some other sites allow you to put a bit about yourself, your ride, age, occupation ect so it can give you some credibility against those 9 year old that rant and swear .I know they can bull crap about themselves but would make it easier to catch them out !
I agree, people should have to register, so people like me who make stupid comments about Epica when it isn’t even close to the topic can be identified.
It’d be nice for everyone to know who they should ridicule, and I’m the guy. :)
Long live Camry.
hahaha ,Paul I knew you had a sence of humor .
Did you mean your the one we should ridicule or the other way around ?
Are you feeling un-loved………… ? Lets all give Paul a group hug!
I don’t need a hug, it was Holden’s fault that the TRD Aurion was recalled.
If they hadn’t sold that POS Epica, with the useless money back guarantee, the Aurion would never have sullied the fabulous Toyota reputation.
Hopefully the new website won’t allow Holden to be mentioned in the same sentence as Camry or Corolla.
The site needs more nudity!
I also like the idea of registering and having a profile so everyone can laugh at the car you drive or where you live :)
Have to say though the best thing I like about this site is the rapid postings of new articles you guys do (I’m still registered with AutoNews, AutoDeadline, Pressroom etc and you guys post nice and quick) and how easy it is to comment.
Keep up the good work!
More Nudity! We have some already? You go first Grumps !
I think keep it simple. Don’t add a forum.
You’ll need moderators and usually disagreements turn to personal attacks.
Keep in “comment only”.
Otherwise, the new design looks shit hot. You know it’s good when it makes a good site look crap in comparison.
Well done guys.
Steve
Group hug for Paul…….you’ll be right, there, there!
It is great to see there is a slither of humour there Paul as there is a chink of giggles in that mind – humour is great and you cannot take everyone to the cleaners (as I know) and take it with a laugh sometimes.
ALBORZ….Just more thoughts on caradvce site. I would NOT be adding emoticons, personal details like occupation or whatever… it will just be worse with people still crapping on and it will jam up the threads with irrelevant more useless stuff that people might turn away from. Maybe just have a space for one photo to go beside NAME on this website so people like Paul and other serious ones can have a laugh – no more then that as simply put silly too!
Just spellcheck, bold, italics and underline. System what is in place is great, my thinking if it aint broke dont fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes Klink… those two last posts were from me…………………………………
Obviously someone has to much time on their hands, I could reply in detail about the crap theyve just mentioned but that would be getting off topic, will leave it for other areas.
Sweet looking site!
>>i would like the car reviews page to be up dated more frequently though
WOW the new site does look really awesome, i love the aston martin DBS at the bottom of the page…
nice!
Thanks guys,
as for the car reviews page
it should be automated soon
The site now has a more contempory feel, but make sure the pages still load quickly – don’t let the site get bogged down with too much of the tech stuff.
I would like to be able to more quickly find older articles. Under “Latest News” ther is a link to “All news”, but it still only lists the last 10 items. Perhaps you could have a “Previous ten” list, and so on. I don’t like having to enter a search or go to the bottom of the page to go to “Previous news” only to find that you then have to scroll through, because there is no list, of articles displayed, at the top.
Sometimes the “Hotspots” are all fully expanded, othertimes it is a toggle through look. The fully expanded view is best.
Love it. Great, large design. Now I have to redesign my blog due to feelings of inferiority
One thing that is annoying me though is the features scroller up the top. In Firefox at least, you need to click on the mini picture to get to the article – yet the whole bar highlights. Wouldn’t it be better if clicking anywhere on those bars takes you to the feature?
GEE WHIZ SHEZ ONE BOTTLER UP TO DATE SHE BANGER PEARLER OF A SITE AND FEELS BETTER AND COOL AS ~ Congrats for smart presentation and layout!
