Subaru Forester X special edition with SatNav

By George Skentzos |

Subaru has released a special edition Subaru Forester X which includes factory-fitted satellite navigation, priced at $990 more than the standard car.

Satellite navigation is not normally available on the Forester X, and is a $2500 option on the higher-spec models.

Only 900 examples of the special edition Forester X are headed to showrooms, priced from $31,980 for the manual variant with an optional four-speed automatic transmission also available.

The SatNav system also includes Bluetooth connectivity and a reversing camera, making this a very appealing prospect for many families.

The Forester also boasts a five-star crashworthiness rating for occupant safety from ANCAP, with every new Subaru featuring dual front, side and curtain airbags, plus Vehicle Dynamics Control electronic stability system.

The SatNav’s built-in bluetooth doesn’t work well in my XT. The other party can barely hear what I say – maybe this is safety feature?

    • gary

How about speak louder :) I guess your car should be in warranty?

  • fourl6

would have been nice to see more that just a new headunit… what about a special seat trim and alloys

  • gary

Forester has at least 3-4 special editions in one or two years, right?

    • Penny Tration

That’s what happens when you’re trying to flog off a car that looks like a pig.

      • Tony E

Penny Tration? ROFL, sounds like penetration. Hahaha

Subaru sales keep growing each year and the Forester is not only the segment No1 but also the No1 selling SUV in Aus last year (all catergories)

Other car companies would die to have such a strong brand loyalty amd compound year on year growth both globally and down under. (Up 7% in Oz Year on Year so far)

So good on you Subaru for building such a well engineered and sensible car…it’s working well.

      • jojo

Forester is Australias No1 selling SUV (This includes all categories) so they dont have any trouble selling them, the other brands would die to have their customer brand loyalty and marketshare.

Penny Tration, did I see you perform with “Bus Stop” and a few others at a drag musical event in Sydney in Dec 2000? Obviously the show made an impression!

Just like Holden has with their various ‘special editions’

Will the satnav help you navigate away from the cheap and nasty interior, flaccid engine, mediocre fuel consumption or coma-inducing exterior styling? If there is a higher power out there, can it please make Subaru stop making cars. Please.

    • fourl6

but its all about the drive-line and badge :)

Subaru is going to release a significantly updated Forester late this year. This sat-nav promotion is simply a special edition to ensure sales don’t slow down too much in the interim.

The sat nav unit is a kenwood FXDD07EF2. I think that its a bit of a rip off to charge $2500 when an aftermarket unit is only a couple hundred.

  • greenroom

this is a poor effort subaru… you just can’t fess up you made dogs of all your once iconic and appealing offerings… jeeez, sat nav… big bliddy deal. wake up you drongo’s.

  • zordon

Wait till July, rumour is, there will another offer from Subaru for their Forrester,
Leather pack/heated seat etc. (Winter edition??)…can anyone confirm this?

  • Zanthus

Winter edition is landing now. Leather seats, steering wheel, gear knob, heated seats, heated windscreen, heated wing mirrors and XT style alloy’s. I think there was something else too, but I forget. I Just signed the paperwork for one.

    • Zib

I’m looking to get the Forester X SatNav special edition while it’s on end of FY sale. Zanthus, when do you think the Winter Special edition will be available for Sale. Alloys and Leather are useful features as opposed to SatNav.

Also, someone else commented that the Forester is getting a facelift in 2010. Any evidence, articles…?
      Many thanks

  • Kim

Picked up my Forester X Winter Edition yesterday – very nice!

    • Ian Smith

Same here, picked up my Winter Edition last night, very happy wit it!! I think the extra features in this edition are far more beneficial than the Satnav…

What do you think of the seat heaters?

      • Kim

The extras are definately a good deal on the winter edition. They will hold more value than the sat nav I think.

The seat heater certainly gives you a warm toasty butt! Not sure I’ll use it that often though.

  • nelson

can you please tell me what you get on the winter pack

  • Roland

    Hi,
As of yesterday, Docklands is still offering the satnav deal. Any other comments on the satnav’s feature? I understand that Subaru is using Kenwood. Is “whereis” the mapping feature used? I would appreciate further comments on this.
    Cheers
