2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI prototype spied on the ‘Ring

By George Skentzos |

Even before the new 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI has reached customer hands, a pure white example has been spotted lapping the Nürburgring – although it may not be quite what it seems.

This particular model bares a few distinct differences from the recently revealed STI, incorporating many trademark features of previous models such as foglight covers and a front lip spoiler.

This has led to speculation that it is in fact a prototype version of a new STI variant, tipped to be the sedan version of the STI spec C.

This idea is supported by the fact that the wheels appear to be the same as the current STI spec C hatch.

Either way, it is almost certainly a development prototype of some sort with what appears to be a wire emerging from behind the grill and taped down behind the license plate and onto the front bumper.

awesome… can’t wait to find more about australian specs

    • dasferg

Good luck with the”Australian spec”. Subaru have never released anything other than cosmetic changes here in Austrlia.

    Looks really good actually

  • Shak

Doesnt look half as bad as i expected it to be.

The back is way too high, just like Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X

i think the back is to high, and its more of a family car now. which sucks because most of the sti fans want something like the 2004 or 2006 sti.

i love the rexy, but i think the original first gen models still looked the best

  • Jess

I think it looks ok, the back is to high and I like the earlier models better.

They should bring back a 2 door STI COUPE, like the original STI
with big gaurds like the 22B, now that would look HOT!!!

  • Nick

he back looks higher because it is cornering at speed…it is the weight transfering to the front of the car as it brakes…

  • Steven

Indicators in the wing mirrors too :)

  • yowza

Looks exactly what I wanted it to be.

The front lip (unpainted) looks nice and the white brings out the curves and “details” on the front…. looks like a modern version of the EVO VI…. but looks nicer.

The car is quite acceptable for a Subaru. The only shame ia about those rear lights on the sedan (refer to the web site link provided). I dont think it could get much naff than that. At a minimum the styling of the rear light sshould be more akin to the STi hatch than an early Kia. Not sure how they managed to get rear light designs so different twixt the hatch and sedan. Still, presumably there will be better looking after market options. Hope to see it here soon.

dasferg your statement is simply not true. Quite a number of changes have been made over the years to suit Australian conditions, such as the suspension to name but one.

    This is more than cosmetic.
