Mercedes-Benz CLS AMG spy photos from Nürburgring

By Matt Brogan |

Following our spy photos yesterday of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS AMG, our snappers in Germany have this morning sent us these images of the car during a quick lap on the Nürburgring.

Although little is known about the car shown, it’s believed the new model features the same platform as the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, though in these shots at least, the new CLS appears to be somewhat wider.

The car pictured also features daytime LED running lights, a new addition to the CLS, and some rather warm front disc brakes.

We also get to see the rear of the new model for the first time.

Wondering what will be happening with the name CLS after Merc started showing tendency to call a coupe version based on its platform like E-class coupe. This CLS will b based on E-class platform too so why not calling it E-class…smthing? Even next gen CL will b called S-class coupe.

Yeah I’m a huge Benz fan but that is a very annoying factor. It seems they go back and forward every 15 years or so to previous nameplates. Wish the numbers on the back still correlated to engine capacity as well; but the marketing boys believe otherwise – they’re wrong however, separating the models like Audi do (a4/a5 etc) could be beneficial. The CLS is a sexier E class, having CL in the name is a good thing cause lets face it it the CL the uber benz. Thank god it looks like the new one has straight LEDS unlike the weird bent ones on the E coupe.
